Scrap the mayor

Scrap the mayor!

One of our key election promises was to campaign to scrap the role of Bristol Mayor and so we are delighted to announce that we have tabled a motion to Full Council on 7 Dec calling for a binding referendum on the Mayoral system in Bristol. This system puts too much power into the hands of one person, who can ignore votes in council and routinely dodges scrutiny and accountability. Under the current occupant, the budget for the Mayor’s office has become increasingly bloated and poor decision-making (Bristol Arena, Bristol Energy, Brislington Meadows…) has cost us all dearly. It’s a system we can no longer afford. Let’s scrap the mayor, restore local democracy and end the waste. More details here: https://www.bristollibdems.org/motion-mayoral-referendum

A37 consultation:

Members of the public are being invited to participate in the latest transport consultation, this time on the A37 and A4018, which largely aligns with the No. 2 bus route.

We attended a councillor briefing last Wednesday and some of the proposals look quite exciting. Locally, the junctions of West Town Lane, Airport Road and Wells Road will see major changes. The consultation started this week and ends on 28 January and can be found on the Travelwest website: https://travelwest.info/projects/bristol-streets-transport-corridorimprovements Hundreds of Brislington West residents have signed up to receive our monthly newsletter via email.
