Bristol Beacon to broadcast London Symphony Orchestra concert at Bath Forum to care homes across the country as thank you to staff and residents Bristol Beacon are to live stream the forthcoming London Symphony Orchestra concert with Sir Simon Rattle in Bath to care homes across the country as a thank you and gift to staff and residents for their hard work and resilience during the pandemic.

The broadcast, which takes place on Thursday 7 October from 7.15pm, is being organised thanks to sponsorship from Bristol Care Homes, who are supporting the cost of the stream.

A private link to watch the concert is being sent for free to a national database of care homes, and the Care Quality Commission are also promoting the opportunity. The concert, which sees Sir Simon Rattle lead the orchestra in Martinů’s Rhapsody-Concerto for viola with violist Antoine Tamestit and Beethoven’s Pastoral Symphony, is being performed at Bath Forum – the first time the orchestra has performed in Bath since 2008. It is credit to the tremendous resilience and hard work of staff that between the first and second wave, care homes nationally reduced excess mortality rates by 95% and provided safe care for our residents in the most challenging circumstances. I hope this concert goes some way at least to saying thank you.” Kathryn McDowell, Managing Director of London Symphony Orchestra, said: “It is a pleasure to be partnering with Bristol Beacon and Bristol Care Homes on this broadcast – I hope that the Orchestra under the baton of Sir Simon can provide some much-deserved entertainment and joy to care homes across the country.” Louise Mitchell, chief executive of Bristol Beacon, said: “As our own venue is mid-transformation, we have found a fantastic opportunity to return the LSO to Bath for the first time in many years.

The concert has been staged by Bristol Beacon, with funding from the Culture Recovery fund, in anticipation of an ongoing artistic partnership with London Symphony Orchestra when the venue reopens in 2023. Geoff Crocker, Chair of Bristol Care Homes, said: “Care Homes look after some of the most vulnerable people in our society, and the pandemic hit the sector hard. Staff and residents have had to endure loss and lockdown, missing valuable time with families over many months in order to keep safe.

Live broadcasting an orchestra is no mean feat, so to find a great partner like Bristol Care Homes to help further fund this thank you to staff and residents is an utter joy. I know what the incredible challenges havebeen, so this concert will be extra special.”

The concert broadcast takes place on Thursday 7 October at 7.15pm and is available for free to any care home in the country. Tips And Tricks For Successful wall paper hanging

There are some tasks that you may need to do before hanging your wallpaper. Check our list to ensure your walls are fully ready for wallpaper. With this guide you will get the best finish possible and avoid any nasty surprises further into the project.

Have you removed any existing wallpaper?

Doing this will give you a smooth finish and avoid air bubbles and creases appearing when you hang the new wallpaper

Are your walls freshly plastered?

If so, have you sealed them with wall sealer? Applying wall sealer, also known as wall size, seals the porous surface of the wall and improves the adhesion of the wallpaper paste. It also aids the slide of the wallpaper, useful when you’re matching patterns or hanging it in awkward areas like window recesses.

Have you lined the walls with lining paper?

Hanging lining paper prevents the new wallpaper from shrinking when it’s hung, which leads to gaps between the lengths of paper. You may also want to hang lining paper if your walls have any stains or small imperfections in the surface, as it will help to disguise this. 6

Have you bought enough wallpaper?

It helps to estimate the amount of wallpaper you’ll need for your project. When you measure the height and length of the walls you want to wallpaper, also measure the windows and doors. Allow extra for wastage. We recommend 10% extra, and any unopened rolls can be returned to the store you bought them from. Also, allow for extra when using paper with a large repeat pattern – the pattern repeat is usually stated on the roll label or product information.

Are all the rolls of wallpaper the same batch number?

Make sure all the rolls have the same batch number printed on the label, as the colours and in some instances, the finish, can vary between batches.

Have you planned how you’re going to hang the wallpaper?

We recommend hanging wallpaper vertically unless the pattern requires it to be hung horizontally. If hanging over lining paper, hanging it in the opposite direction to the lining paper means that the seams won’t fall in the same place and create ridges.

Does the walls have any fixing on them?

If so, unscrew the fixings before papering, leaving the wall plugs in place. Mark the position of each one by pushing a matchstick (with the head broken off) into the plug. Leave it slightly proud so you can find the hole and reuse it later. Also its recommended that the first piece of paper you hang starts from the corner that the window or door is in so any joins are hidden from view.
