Poor sleep and fatigue are common problems affecting millions of people worldwide. It is thought that around a third of all adults in the UK get less than six hours of sleep per night. Research shows that those who frequently get fewer than 6 hours a night are at significantly increased risk of stroke or heart disease.

Good quality sleep is critically important to support well-being from cradle to grave. It is a basic and fundamental human requirement and is essential for good physical, mental and emotional health.

HALLOWEEN HIJINKS AT WAKE THE TIGER: DANSE MACABREe

Shadow walkers and sky queens, junk lords and born survivors, Wake The Tiger welcomes you to discover the world of Meridia and the guild celebration of times lost.

On the Friday before All Hallows Eve, the world’s first Amazement Park®, Wake The Tiger, will host an exclusive adults-only Halloween event like no other: Danse Macabre.

Another term for the dance of death, Danse Macabre will play host to thrilling performers, games and high energy live bands and DJs from 6.30pm until 1amall set against the immersive backdrop of Meridia’s Dream Factory. Tickets for the limited-space event are on sale now at: here.

Danse Macabre began in medieval times as a memento mori: a way to remind people of how vain the strive for earthly possessions can be and how fragile life is. In the world of Meridia itself, the guilds are striving to find a path from the brink of self-destruction, by breaking down the social inequality and finding a route to sustainability and harmony with the planet.

Transcending into darkness for this oneoff evening of celebration, Wake The Tiger invites guests to dress for the post apocalyptic future and join the dance on Friday 28th October from 6.30pm.

Last entry to the portal will be at 9pm, after which the main event will take place in The Guildhall Bar area and main street - with the celebrations coming to an end in the early morning witching hour of Saturday 29th October.

“Within the world of Meridia, guests will watch the old world slip away into shadow and dust, like a burning ship into the setting sun. From this precipice of change, they will glimpse the hope of a new day rising with the dawn” says Doug Fransisco, Artistic Director at Wake The Tiger.

This is the first ever event taking place at Wake The Tiger and tickets are available now from the Wake The Tiger website at www.wakethetiger. com. This event is for those 18+ only, however the Wake The Tiger experience is open to all ages with last entry atl 3pm on the 28th.

A year-round attraction from the artistic team behind the ground-break ing festival, Boomtown, Wake The Tiger blurs the lines between an interactive theatre and detailed film set.

The International Day for the Eradication of Poverty is observed every year on October 17th as a day to show solidarity with the poor. On this day, people of all backgrounds and societies commit to helping those in poverty. The day has become a chance to acknowledge the struggles of people living below the poverty line. It’s an opportunity for the poor to be heard and for the world to remember that those who live in poverty are often the first to fight against it.

This is because they understand the challenges first-hand. Those who live in poverty often don’t have adequate shelter or enough food to eat. They either make minimal income or none at all. Persons living in poverty also face unequal access to justice and limited health care. Most people living in pov erty also struggle with shame, rejection, and humiliation.

The struggles with poverty affect nearly half of the world’s population. More than 3 billion people live on less than $2.50 a day. More than 1 billion people live on less than $1.25 a day. This is considered extreme poverty. These statistics include 1 billion children who live in poverty. About 22,000 children a day die as a direct result of living in poverty.

These numbers are staggering. However, there are some effective ways to reduce global poverty. These include:

• Improve the management of water and natural resources

• Invest in and implement agricultural programs

• Encourage countries to engage in trade

• Create and improve access to jobs

• Provide access to technology and innovation

• Provide access to basic social services, such as education, health care, nutrition, and sanitation

According to the Borgen Project, if people and governments worked together to implement these ideas, pov erty could be eradicated by 2030.

30-YEAR VISION FOR SOUTH GLOUCESTERSHIRE

A long-term vision to help raise the quality of life for communities in South Gloucestershire has been approved by South Gloucestershire Council’s Cabinet.

The new strategic infrastructure-led masterplan for the north fringe of Bristol includes the South Gloucestershire neighbourhoods of Filton, Cribbs Causeway, Patchway, Bradley Stoke, Stoke Gifford, Harry Stoke and the Bristol communities of Henbury and Brentry.

The 30-year vision looks to address the climate and nature emergency and deliver sustainable inclusive communi ties, new infrastructure and growth.

South Gloucestershire Council, Bristol City Council and the West of England Combined Authority have worked jointly on the project, which focuses on sharing prosperity and raising the quality of life for all residents, businesses and visitors in the area.

The vision includes a number of aspirations such as delivering sustainable transport, improving access to op portunities and education, enhancing landscape and the environment, and protecting existing natural and historic environments.

It also promotes the 15-minute neigh bourhood principle, where individuals can access everything they need, including employment, community, leisure, and healthcare facilities within a 15-minute walk or cycle of where they live.

A public engagement over the summer enabled people living in communities in the north fringe of Bristol to help shape the vision.

Councillor Steve Reade, cabinet member responsible for regeneration, environment and strategic infrastructure at South Gloucestershire Council, said: “The north fringe of Bristol masterplan is the result of a successful joint project between the Combined Authority, South Gloucestershire Council and Bristol City Council.

“The outcome is an ambitious vision for the area that if realised, will bring social, economic and environment benefits up to 2050 and beyond.

“This new vision will enhance a sense of place, maintain and drive the economy, and create a more sustainable transport network to reduce the dependency of cars within this area of South Gloucestershire.

“It will not only encourage growth but will protect and enhance existing communities as well as address the climate and nature emergency.”

The proposals set out in the new north fringe of Bristol masterplan will require further work before they can be translated into commitments in South Gloucestershire Council’s emerging local plan.

FIRE SAFETY, FURNISHINGS

PART 6 IN OUR SERIES ON “COMPLIANCE MADE SIMPLE.”

As property investors and letting agents, we are regularly having conversations with people about compliance. What often comes across is that people find it changeable and confusing. It is changeable, this is true, but it needn’t be confusing. With this in mind, we have put together a series on some of the most common compliance issues, in an attempt to explain them, in a way which is succinct and non-confusing. The sixth in this series is all about Fire and Furnishings.

As more and more landlords utilise up cycled furnishings and repurpose items from other properties, in a bid to do their bit to minimise their carbon footprint, whilst keeping costs down, the information herein has become even more relevant and important. Some of our landlords are amazing at breathing new life into furniture and finding tremendous bargains on social platforms; it really is a skill! A word to the wise though, please ensure that the furniture that you supply in your rental properties is compliant, this is crucial, read on for more details!

What are The Fire and Furnishings

(Fire) (Safety) (Amendment) Regulations 1988?

Regulations, Requirements & Duties

The Fire and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations came into force on 1st November 1988, to protect furnished goods against fire. They set the levels of fire resistance for domestic upholstered furniture, furnishings, and other products containing upholstery. It is the landlord's responsibility to ensure that any furniture left at the property complies with these regulations.

24

THE ITEMS BELOW ARE INCLUDED IF THEY CONTAIN UPHOLSTERY (SOFT FURNISHINGS):

• Sofa beds & futons

Beds, headboards, mattresses and bed bases.

Sofas, armchairs and foot stalls

Nursery furniture

Garden furniture suitable for use indoors (deckchairs & parasols are not covered)

Scatter cushions and seat pads

Pillows

Padded seats

Loose and stretch furniture covers

THE REGULATIONS DO NOT APPLY TO:

Bed covers, including mattress protectors & duvets

Curtains

Carpets

• Furniture made before 1950 (aslong as it has not been re-upholstered)

PENALTIES:

Non-Compliance is a criminal offence and may lead to a fine of up to £5,000 and/or a prison sentence of up to 6 months. The trading standards office is responsible for seeing that the regulations are complied with.

If you are unsure, you should look for the "fire safety" tag on the furniture, if you cannot find it... don't risk it. Non-fire safe furniture kills, so be responsible and keep your tenants safe!

THE BRISTOL EATING BETTER BUSINESS AWARD IS BACK

Businesses such as restaurants, caterers, street traders and food retailers across the city are being urged to help their customers make healthier choices by making small amends to their menus and how they operate.

The Bristol Eating Better Business Award aids and recognises businesses that take steps to provide healthier food options and promote sustainability.

In addition to supporting Bristol's Gold Sustainable Food City status, the Bristol Eating Better Award celebrates local businesses who are helping Bristol to eat healthier. The award has recently been reviewed, and new actions have been introduced on reducing sugar, salt, fat and increasing consumption of fruit, vegetables and promoting healthier options.

The award also supports Bristol’s move to carbon neutrality and helps to tackle the climate and ecological emergencies, inviting businesses to make small changes, such as including more plant-based ingredients on their menus, minimising their food waste and sourcing seasonal UK produce.

Councillor Ellie King, Cabinet Member for Public Health and Communities said: “The last couple of years have been extremely difficult for local businesses. It’s time to celebrate the steps that they are taking to operate more sustainably and promote healthy eating.

“It’s fantastic to see so many businesses committed to reducing their carbon footprint, and the awards are about recognising and rewarding them for the impact that they are having.”

Maddy Crammond, partner at Ceylon and Beyond, a local trader that holds the Business Award, said: “The Bristol Eating Better Awards has given us more access to local markets where we can trade and sell our products. It’s pushed us to think more carefully about the food that we’re producing and selling, and make healthier choices in our cook ing - using organic ingredients with low fat and sugar content such as pulses and vegetables, as well as switching to coconut oil.

26

“Our dishes are naturally nutritious, especially since we use so many spices and herbs in our recipes, and the Award has encouraged us to continue in that direction and support the day-to-day wellbeing of our customers and community.”

Businesses across the city have already signed up to the Bristol Eating Better Awards, adjusting their operations and demonstrating their commitment to a healthier, more sustainable food system.

CRITERIA FOR THE AWARD INCLUDES:

• Making small changes, for example in the ingredients they use or how they prepare food and what packaging they serve the food in

• Offering healthier alternatives, for example fruit or non-sugary drinks

• Encouraging customers to choose these alternatives, for example by making the healthier options cheaper

• Encouraging customers to bring their own reusable cups and containers to reduce single use plastic.

Bristol was awarded Gold Sustainable Food City status in June 2021, following the city-wide Going for Gold campaign.

As part of this status, the goal is for the city’s events, festivals, and markets to reflect the variety of sustainable and healthy food that Bristol has to offer.

Along with the Business award aimed at restaurants, cafes and market stalls, the award has also been adapted for Early Years and School settings to help more children in Bristol have access to healthy and sustainable food.

You can watch the Bristol Eating Better Awards short film over on the Bristol City Council YouTube channel.

More information about the Bristol Eating Better Awards and how to apply is on the Bristol Eating Better website.

Whether you’re an organisation, community group or individual, you can find ideas about how to eat more sustainably at Bristol Climate Hub.

ROYAL MAIL CELEBRATES BRISTOL’S AARDMAN ANIMATION

Royal Mail has unveiled a new set of stamps featuring Aardman Animations' most cherished characters, including Wallace and Gromit, Morph, and Shaun the Sheep. The Bristol-based animation studio, which was founded in 1972, is celebrated for its films using stop-mo tion and clay modelling animation techniques. The British postage service company has partnered with Aardman to showcase some of their most iconic characters on eight new stamps. They include well-loved Wallace and Gromit, Feathers McGraw, Shaun the Sheep, Timmy, Robin, Morph and Chas, Frank the Tortoise, Rocky, and Ginger.

Speaking about the collaboration, Royal Mail’s director of external affairs and policy David Gold said in a online statement: “This set of stamps will surely bring a smile to everyone’s face. These instantly recognisable, iconic animated characters have found a place in our hearts. We are certain they will add a bit of joy to any envelope.”

In addition to the eight stamps, an exclusive miniature sheet, created specially for Royal Mail by Aardman, will also be available.

On the miniature sheet, Wallace and Gromit celebrate four of their favourite cracking moments by displaying them proudly on their wall, in their recognisable home at 62 West Wallaby Street.

Key moments on the stamps include those from Wallace and Gromit animated short films A Matter Of Loaf And Death, The Wrong Trousers, A Close Shave and A Grand Day Out.

Aardman’s managing director Sean Clarke said: “We are delighted to partner with Royal Mail to celebrate some of our most iconic characters in this colourful and fun-packed stamps series.

“We have had the pleasure of creating these films featuring these much-loved characters over the last 40 years, so it is a real honour for the studio to receive this royal stamp of approval.

28

Aardman was founded by Peter Lord and David Sproxton, who began their animation partnership while at school when they created a character called Aard-man, which the BBC bought for its Vision On series and marked the creation of Aardman Animations.

Lord, 67, and Sproxton, 68, began to gain widespread recognition after creating the now-highly recognisable shape-shifting clay character Morph for the BBC’s Take Hart series.

Aardman are also responsible for creating some of the most successful stop-motion films, including Chicken Run, after British animator Nick Park joined the company.

The Aardman collaboration stamps are now available to pre-order from www.royalmail.com/aardman and will be on general sale from October 19.

OUT AND ABOUT IN BRISLINGTON WEST

BRISLINGTON GREENWAY HOPES DIMINISH:

Despite receiving unanimous, crossparty support in the spring, Hopes of a new active travel corridor along the for mer Brislington Railway Line are diminishing, largely due to the cost of living crisis. Speaking to the Managing Director of Meanwhile Creative, who was planning to finance the scheme, he said, “My personal costs to date are £30,000. The council want another £10,000 of reports, and our build costs due to inflation are double what they were when we first costed the project 2 years ago. Coupled with the economic outlook now quite bleak, it makes for a very risky venture.“ We have been campaigning for an active travel corridor here for the last five years so are obviously disappointed but we totally understand the reasons why it’s looking less and less likely to go ahead.

REJECTED 5G MAST RESUBMITTED:

An application for a 5G mast on the Bath Road near the junction with Tramway Road, which was rejected by council officers earlier in the year, has been resubmitted, albeit with some minor modifications, including a height reduction of 3 meters, from 18 to 15 metres, and a change in design.

Go to the Bristol Planning Portal and enter the application number 22/04512/Y in order to view the application and make comments in support or opposition.

BIG TIDY RETURN TO BRISLINGTON WEST:

Following a request for help, the Big Tidy team are returning to Brislington West this Friday 14 October. We will be concentrating on the Callington Road/ Homemead Drive area. It would be great if residents could join us. If you can help, please meet us at the entrance to the Callington Road Nature Reserve at 1pm. All equipment will be provided.

It’s been great to watch our new path taking shape over the last few days. This will provide easier access to the steps through to Arnos Vale Cemetery, especially during the winter, and prevent the ground from turning into a mud bath. The project has been financed by the Community Infrastructure Levy and was the first project submitted by the Friends of Arnos Court Park, which we set up in order to protect and enhance our local green space. Next year, we are hoping for more seating and biodiversity improvements.

BRISLINGTON WAR MEMORIAL CLEAN-UP:

It’s time for our annual clean-up of the Brislington War Memorial on Bath Road in advance of Remembrance Sunday next month. On Saturday 22 October from 10am, we plan to sweep the whole area clean, do some weeding and collect any litter! If you would like to help out, just come along. It will be great to see you. We will also dress the monument with hundreds of knitted poppies donated from our local churches. If you can, please remember to support the work of the Royal British Legion and get your poppy.

BUS CHANGES:

From Sunday 9th October many bus services have changed and some routes withdrawn across Bristol and the wider West of England region. You can visit the First Bus website to find out what’s changed and view the new timetables. Please note, if you travel in Bristol City Centre, there have been some changes to bus stop arrangements: https://www.firstbus.co.uk/bristol-bathand-west/news-and-service-updates/ planned-changes

ICESCAPE ANNOUNCEMENT

Icescape and North Somerset Council have released a statement today say ing that the winter attraction will not be opening in Weston-super-Mare this year.

Due to the rising costs of energy to power the attraction, and the predicted energy bill being five times what it was in 2019 when the ice rink was last in Weston, the difficult decision not to open has had to be made.

A location for the rink was agreed, but in the end the unsustainable costs were too great.

Mark Canniford, Executive Member for Placemaking and Growth, said: "We have worked closely with Icescape to explore all of the options, but the steep rise in energy costs, which is affecting businesses and households across the UK, have resulted in this difficult deci sion.

"Although Icescape will sadly not be joining us this year, the hugely popular carnival will be back for the first time since Covid and the Grand Pier Fireworks at Sea. There will also be Christmas Lights switch on and Christmas events across North Somerset.

Jamie Dann, Operations Director at Icescape said: "It is a real shame we won’t be returning to Tropicana or Weston-super-Mare again this year. Another location was found but mains power was not available, and although this would have been provided by the council, this and the cost of energy made the event financially unviable. We would like to thank North Somerset Council for all their work in trying to find an alternative site and we hope to return in the future."

34
"We’re grateful for thesupport and positivityfrom Icescape and we lookforward to welcomingthem back next year, during less challengingtimes."

TRAINING WORKSHOP IN LOSS, GRIEF AND BEREAVEMET

A training workshop for healthcare and end-of-life professionals to help them understand the impact of grief is taking place on Thursday November 24 at Bristol Memorial Woodlands in Alveston.

The half-day workshop will look at loss, grief and bereavement and aims to build the skills of professionals to support themselves and others through the feelings people experience when someone close dies.

Organised by the funeral venue in partnership with training provider Gentle Dusk, the workshop will also look at the current theoretical approaches to loss and gain insight into the diversity of experiences in relation to bereavement.

The training is being delivered by Mireille Hayden, founding partner of Gentle Dusk which provides training and events around death, dying and bereavement.

She said: “With Covid and the death of the Queen we have all been through times recently where the feelings of loss of many kinds have been felt by the nation. Many have lost loved ones. Covid and confinement meant that many people went through grief at a time where there was isolation and lack of social support.”

The event will take place on 24th November from 2pm to 5.30pm in the reception rooms at Bristol Memorial Woodlands, a funeral setting with 100 acres of burial woodland, providing families with a place to visit and remember loved ones for years to come.

Previous workshops have been welcomed by healthcare professionals who said it gave them the opportunity to talk about death in a “no holds barred fashion” in a beautiful relaxing setting.

Places are free for local professionals working in healthcare but limited to 25 for this workshop. To book email your name, title and organisation to event co-ordinator Sophie Thomas on sophie@gentledusk.org.uk. For more information visit www.memorialwoodlands.com

WARM PLACES PLANNED IN BRISTOL

There will be warm communal places set up in Bristol for people who cannot afford to heat their homes this coming winter.

As energy bills are set to rise again in October, fears are mounting about the many people who will struggle to pay their heating bills as the weather gets colder. Bristol City Council is planning to set up “warm places” across the city to help people who can’t pay.

Marvin Rees, the mayor of Bristol, made a plea for help providing these warm places, and money to set them up. The spaces could also provide support for people with food, education and finan cial advice.

Average energy bills increased in April by £693 after Ofgem, the regulator, lifted its price cap in response to huge jumps in wholesale gas prices, partly linked to the war in Ukraine.

Ofgem is expected to increase the price cap again this October, meaning bills could go up even further, adding more pressure to people’s pockets just as many turn their heating back on.

Mr Rees said: in a online statement: “It almost sounds like wartime, but we’ll be working with community organisations and partners around the city to set up warm places that people can go to if they need to, come the autumn when people need to turn their heating on again.

"We’ll be looking at a number of characteristics for these places and we’re exploring what we can do at the moment.

“It’ll be a warm place, there’ll be homework support, services there, financial advice. Hopefully we’ll be able to align it with some of the programmes we have to tackle hunger as well.

"But it will be a real community hub where we can bring people together, and break down isolation as we go into those colder months.”

We will bring you more on this when we have a full list of the places you can use as warm places

AUTUMN GOLF BREAKS ARE TO THE MANOR BORN

Golfers searching for an autumn staycation to remember can pay a visit to one of the ‘prettiest villages in the country’ while combining thrilling golf, exceptional accommodation and mouth-watering dining options at The Manor House.

Located in Castle Combe, named the prettiest village in the UK last year by FBM Holidays, the Wiltshire estate boasts an enviable reputation among avid golfers.

The delightful 18-hole championship course, designed by Peter Alliss and Clive Clark, is immersed in the enchanting surroundings of the Cotswolds with 365 acres of breathtak ing rolling countryside as a backdrop, offering some of the most idyllic scenery.

The mature oak and beech trees that line the beautifully manicured fairways, together with the immaculate greens and the River Bybrook meandering through the middle, bring both drama and beauty to the 6,500-yard parkland course, which is rightly considered one of the best in the south west.

With a range of stay and play packages on offer this autumn, golfers can experience the course and everything else The Manor House has to offer.

From £140 per person, guests can enjoy a round of golf and accommodation in The Castle Inn in a standard room as well as a full English breakfast and £35 towards dinner.

The Castle Inn, recently named at number 37 in Estrella Damm’s top 50 gastropubs, is a cosy 12th-century pub which sits in the heart of the village offering 12 unique en-suite bedrooms and delicious homemade food. The pub is particularly popular among groups of golfers looking to relax after a day on the fairways.

Those wishing to stay in the venue’s award-winning luxury hotel can do so from £205 per person per night. Included in the package is a round of golf and much more, including a full Manor House breakfast and £35 towards dinner

For those looking for the ultimate golf break experience however, The Manor House is also home to the Michelin starred Bybrook restaurant, a relaxed, elegant atmosphere where the brigade of talented chefs serves delicious seasonal dishes crafted wit h local ingredients.

In recent months, the golf club has also continued its push towards being as carbon friendly as possible.

42

160 solar panels have been installed on the greenkeepers equipment store and clubhouse to help power the new fleet of buggies, with figures suggesting the installation will stop the release of 11,507kg of carbon dioxide per annum.

Andrew Ryan, The Manor House golf club manager, said: “If you’re planning on visiting The Manor House this autumn, you certainly won’t be left disappointed. Come rain or shine, our course will be open thanks to the exceptional drainage and will be in a great condition.

“Our parkland course offers a brilliant challenge for golfers of all abilities. Our dedicated team across the golf club, hotel and gastronomy work tirelessly to ensure that golfers experience the finest offerings in every area of their stay.”

Packages at The Manor House start from £140 per person and include bed and breakfast in a standard room, a £35 per person allocation to use towards dinner, use of the driving range and 18 or 36 holes of golf.

NEW OFFICES FOR BRISTOL ACCOUNTANCY

Independent accountancy practice

Corrigan has moved across the city centre into new offices in Bristol’s King Street.

The firm has swapped its previous home in Lower Park Row for the first floor of 25 King Street.

The move follows its recent rebranding and the adoption of a new black, white and orange corporate identity and accompanying website.

Corrigan, which was established in 2009 and has around 30 staff, is a member of Integra International, a worldwide association for independent accountancy practices.

Partner and founder Ed Corrigan says the firm continued to grow organically during the pandemic and is now focused on the next stage of its development.

“Our ambition is to be the leading independent accountancy practice in Bristol,” he said.

“We've become the go-to firm for some of the brightest businesses, supporting hundreds of clients to grow their enterprises by taking care of everything from their financial compliance respon sibility through major funding rounds, to strategic support and advice.

“Now, following our rebrand, we have implemented the next stage of our development plan, involving our reloca tion to our new office.

“This features state of the art meeting rooms and cosy seating areas and is generally more suited to the new era of hybrid working, as well as being situated in historic King Street, with its lively pub, bar and restaurant scene.”

BRISTOL STREETS SPLIT IN HALF

The Clean Air Zone (CAZ) could divide streets in Bristol when it becomes effective on 28 November.

When Bristol’s Clean Air Zone launches in October 2021, some streets on the outskirts will have parts that fall inside the zone, while other parts of the same street will be outside the zone.

Osborne Road in South Bristol is one of the streets that will be divided when the scheme goes into effect in November.

Osborne Road resident said: "It will depend on where the cameras go up, but I think my driveway will be just outside the Clean Air Zone while the house itself will fall within the zone".

Temporary exemptions will be in place until the end of March next year for certain eligible groups such as residents in the zone or people working within the zone and earning less than £26,000 a year.

The changes do not bother all residents though with some happy the zone will soon be installed.

A 83-year-old who lives just outside of the zone, said: "The principle is a good one, I am all in favour of breathing clean air and living for longer.

"We have to try it and see if it works. Any change you make is going to inconvenience someone, but dying is pretty inconvenient too.

"Some people will be against it because it will make things tricky for them, but others will take my view and think some thing needs to be done. It is about time they do it I say, it should have been done earlier if anything".

Other Roads which will find themselves split by the zone will be:

5 GOLDEN RULES WHEN PLANNING A SUCCESSFUL HOLIDAYS WITH YOUR FRIENDS

It's only natural that you love your friends and wish you saw them more often throughout the year. That's why going on holiday together seemed like such a great idea.

But beware! This joint adventure could turn out to be less relaxing and fun than expected, and might even escalate into a showdown! You're going to have to learn to live with each other's habits and moods. A challenge and a half! Here are some helpful tips so that all goes smoothly.

TIP 1. ORGANISE THE IDEAL CASTING

It’s very important to carefully choose the people with whom you go on holiday. Be merciless. It’s for your own good, believe us!

Say yes to your old friends with whom you’ve already been on holiday and share the same interests, values, pace and lifestyle.

Say no to couples who are on the verge of breaking up, to parents exhausted by their baby or teenager, to the depressed colleague that you hardly know or to your childhood friend’s snobbish latest flame.

And above all, if you are single, never go on holiday with a group made up exclusively of parents or couples!

TIP 2. DON’T BE AFRAID TO MENTION MONEY

In spite of what you may think, money can still be taboo among friends. It can be easier asking your boss for a raise than asking your pals to help pay for the petrol!

If your finances are a bit tight, don’t feel obliged to keep up with the others. You could regret it when you get home.

TIP 3. LIMIT THE LENGTH OF YOUR HOLIDAY

Don’t be tempted to spend the whole of your annual leave with your friends. As lovely as they are, there will come a point when you’ll feel tired and won’t feel the benefit of your holiday together.

The ideal length of time is one week, especially if you have never gone away together before.

TIP 4. BE SOCIABLE

You chose to spend your holiday with a group of friends so don’t stay on your own! Be part of the group. Share your friends’ passions and interests

48

If

or put the world

TIP 5. KEEP SOME INDEPENDENCE

Just because you’re a group, it doesn’t mean you must do everything together. It may become tiring after a while and you all need some breathing space.

Don’t feel obliged to take breakfast with everyone: some people need more sleep than others! You can each do as you please during the day.

Above all enjoy your time with your friends, but make sure you first and foremost enjoy your 2022- 2023 holiday!
