Statistically, the beginning of the year is the busiest time for people speaking to their lawyers about divorce. If you’re currently feeling the chill of a winter break-up, don’t forget to change your will. A lot of people assume that a will is automatically invalidated in the case of divorce. If you don’t change your will when you split, legally it still holds, although your ex-spouse will be treated as though he or she died on the day the decree absolute was granted. This means that if you’d left everything to your spouse you’re effectively dying intestate, with no beneficiary, and all the problems associated with that come into force for the ones you leave behind. If you had named beneficiaries as well as your spouse included in the will, their share of your estate will increase proportionally. If you’d named your ex-spouse as the sole executor or trustee of your will, this could cause chaos when you die as a new executor will have to be found and this process can cost a small fortune in solicitors’ and court fees. in some cases, even though you’ve split, you may want your ex to be a trustee to safeguard the children’s interests, for example, and look after any trusts in their name.
Unless you write a new will and specifically state that wish, your ex might be barred from any involvement. It is complicated and for people struggling with the breakdown of a relationship, re-writing a will is often the last thing on their mind. It’s very important though. “Amending your will is a fairly quick, simple and inexpensive process. The impact of not doing so could have serious, financial and emotional, consequences for those left behind” said Fidel Beauhill from Legally secure Ltd. When you do write your new will, remember to state clearly that it revokes any previous wills and codicils and to safely dispose of your old one – your solicitor or will writer will talk you through this. Legally Secure have been helping people write wills in Bristol for many years and appreciate that often the circumstances that require a new will to be written are tough. To discuss making an appointment call 0117 322 6322 or log on to www.legallysecure.co.uk. Do remember that spring, bringing with it brighter days, is on its way.

We Are BristoliansStop Trying To Set Us Against Each Other
The real problem is that we, the public are being ripped off in my opinion for basic needs like heating, rent and, a regular grouse on this page, public transport costs that in this country are far higher than in other countries. Npower have just announced increases of 15% in some cases and the other Utilities are lining up to raise tariffs and pay greater profits to their shareholders. A terrific organisation has been set up here in Bristol called Acorn that is fighting for Tenants Rights against unscrupulous landlords and for more Affordable housing on sites such as the Chocolate Factory.
Yet another poll, “research” project or whatever – a finding by a “Think Tank” at any rate – is currently one of the headlines in the news: ‘Older People are £20 better off per week’. Well whoopety –doooo! What should they spend it on? A whole £20! Now I’m not complaining at all, but the sub-text is that this is at the expense of working families i.e. trying to set the generations apart. Older people are more likely to own their own home and to have paid off their mortgage, but this is not always the case by any means. It ignores that many, especially those who don’t own their own home, are still having to choose between eating and heating – as are many families. The report says that many old people are still working, overlooking that many of them have to, just like families with parents having to work if they are to have a decent standard of living.
All older people that I know spend firstly on their children and grandchildren if they have a bit spare. They help with clothes, especially shoes, or rent if they can afford to. They spend it on better and more local things than Government would, helping younger families to cope.
So the message is; Stop trying to divide the generations. Stop trying to set us against each other. If Older People have a bit of spare cash, better they spend it here in Bristol on keeping warm or helping their families that Government takes it away in higher taxes – because that’s what they are after! Feels Like Winter Is Behind Us March – it really feels as if the winter is behind us and now we can look forward to brighter weather and lighter nights and everything beginning to grow again. There is something very special about the spring when we see new life all around us – the bare earth sprouting all sorts of different flowers and the trees coming into leaf and blossom. As the church will shortly move into the time which is known as Lent. As we said last month, this is a period of six weeks leading up to Easter, rather a solemn time in the church year before the wonderful celebration of Easter when we remember Jesus was raised from the dead. A bit like the barren winter turning into the beauty of spring. Just as spring makes us feel a bit hopeful so Jesus resurrection gives us hope for our own lives. On Friday, 3rd March we had Women's World Day of Prayer which was at 2.30 pm in St Mary's. This World Day of Prayer is a global ecumenical movement led by Christian women who welcome everyone to join in prayer and action for peace and justice.
Our Lent Evenings begin on Wednesday 8th March, and continue on Wednesdays 15th, 22nd, 29th March and 5th April, from 7pm – 9pm each week. They are entitled ‘Christian Faith - Jewish Roots’ and will be led by the Rev Alister Palmer. There is no charge but you are asked to make a donation which will be given to Mercy Ships. They provide the world’s largest charitable floating hospital, bringing free medical care to some of the world’s poorest people and are almost entirely staffed by volunteers. These evenings are open to all, pop in and pick up a leaflet if you think you might be interested. Messy Church is on Thursday 16th March from 3.30pm – 5pm for children of all ages. Crafts are suitable for children aged 3+ but younger siblings are warmly welcomed and we have a creche. The theme this month is ‘The Wise and Foolish Men’. Mothering Sunday is on Sunday 26th March when at 10.00am we shall be having a Cafe Church Service, a new, special service suitable for children and for adults of all ages. Bring your parents or your children/grandchildren to celebrate this special day and try this new service out. Please note that there will be no Kids’ Klub Service at 8.30am that morning.
Every year the service is prepared by women from a different country. Last year it was written by the women of Cuba and was entitled ‘Receive Children. Receive me.’ This year it is written by the women of the Philippines and is entitled ‘Am I being unfair to you’. It has been translated into 1,000 different languages and dialects, to be used throughout the whole world on that day.

City and Port of Bristol Bowls Club News Thirty one bowlers and supporters made their way from Bristol to arrive at The Toorak Hotel in Torquay on January 29th for the annual winter bowling break. A total of eight games ---- some fours and some triples --- were enjoyed on the hotels four rink indoor arena. All of them were against local sides ---- some did travel further than others ---- Okehampton coming from furthest away. There were some very close games --- one going to the very last end to arrive at a result. Overall, City and Port won four of the eight games played, but the enjoyment gained from playing the game is of greater importance than results and this year was no exception. Although bowling is central to the week it is just a part of what the break is all about. There was plenty of time to explore Torquay and the surrounding area as well as taking advantage of the wide range of facilities on offer within the hotel. Swimming in the Aztec Pool or relaxing in the Jacuzzi --- just two things to do --- or maybe a game of snooker or pool in the games room. Ten Pin Bowling --- also in the games room --- and now very much a part of the winter break. Very different to bowling a wood ---- it was once again a very enjoyable evening. This year’s top scorers ---- Dawn Evans and Brian Crawley. The weeks other main winners and receiving their prizes from joint organisers Jill Hinksman and Dee Crawley at the end of week ceremony were ---- Yvonne Gross --- Ladies Fours. Steve Reed --- Men’s Fours. Margaret Price and Dawn Evans --- tied in the Ladies Triples. Bill Hatherall --- Men’s Triples.
Returning from Torquay on Friday February 3rd, City and Port were soon back in action with a five rink friendly game against Severnvale at the City and County Indoor Club on Saturday 4th. In what was a very enjoyable game the City and Port came out in front by 60 shots to 48. There is one more indoor game ---- on Saturday March 4th --- once again against Severnvale, before outdoor bowling returns on Wednesday 12th April at Wrington. Thinking caps were very much the order of the day for the latest Sunday evening social event, on February 12th. An excellent general knowledge quiz --- with questions ranging from traffic light sequence to classical music --- devised and presented by Gordon Dimond brought about much memory searching and scratching of heads. The winning team of four --- aptly called the A Team --- comprised Trevor Scanlon, Brian Crawley, Dee Crawley and David Hinksman. The next event will be a skittles evening on Sunday March 12th --- starting at 7.30pm. The Pre-Season Meeting will be on Thursday March 16th at 7.45pm --- time to renew annual membership and to receive the new season fixture book. There is much to look forward to in season 2017 with mixed friendly games most Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays from Mid-April until late September. Monday evenings from May to early September will see Club League and Cup action. The Ladies and The Gentlemen will once again compete in their respective league and in county competitions. Tuesday evenings will again be for anyone who would like to try bowling to do just that ---- just come along and give it a go.
For further information about the Bowling Club and its activities please call David Hinksman on 0117 9082713.

The Two Most Talked About Weddings Ever! Princess Diana and Prince Charles
Prince William and Kate Middleton
It was 1981 and an estimated 750 million people were gathering around their TVs to watch the ultimate royal wedding and the hoard of 600,000 that lined the streets surrounding London’s St. Paul Cathedral. In true 80s style, 20-year-old Diana wore a puffy taffeta dress with an infamous 25-foot train decorated with 10,000 pearls. According to reports, the pair had 27 wedding cakes at their extravagant reception. Although the couple separated in 1992 and divorced only a year before Diana’s tragic death in 1997, their lavish ceremony remains one of the most talked about weddings ever.
Not to be outdone by his late mother, Prince William’s marriage was lavish, tasteful and publicized as much as any event. Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge, donned an ultra-sheer veil, a 1936 diamond tiara from Cartier, and a striking high-waist gown with a fitted bodice inspired by the dress Grace Kelly wore. Known for her classic yet trendsetting wardrobe, Kate’s wedding gown sparked a lace revival with its sheer bodice and beautifully appliquéd skirt. With such a fairy tale wedding, it’s hard to imagine their marriage being anything but perfect. These historic weddings were the most talked about events at the time and their enduring Impact leads people to keep talking about them and recreating their classical style.

Why Use A Virtual Assistant 2017. What is it going to bring? Economic uncertainty? In 2018 the pension auto-enrolment scheme will be implemented. The same year there will be a change from annual to quarterly tax returns. More pressure that your business does not need. But there is a solution. Now is time for your business to outsource your administration to a virtual assistant (V.A.) rather than recruiting a new member of staff.
So why outsource? It really is this simple. You do not need to pay a pension, sick pay, holiday pay or any benefits that a company may offer employees. You do not need to worry about tax and national insurance as this is the responsibility of the V.A. A V.A. can work as little or as many hours as required. You are in control of what you want them to do for you. There are no overheads and being virtual means we do not take up your office space.
What can a virtual assistant do to help you? Firstly, a business needs to look at what is causing them to stagnate or not cope with the workloads. Are those invoices and expenses being done by your other halves in their spare time in the evening? Are you lacking a social media presence? Do you run your business with lots of spreadsheets? Is your bookkeeping behind schedule? Is your customer aftersales follow up letting you down? A V.A. can help with all of this. V.A’s can just be your P.A. or your business strategist. By leaving a V.A. to look after your office administration, your business can focus on what you do best, meaning you become more successful and efficient. Be it engineering, plumbing, architectural, therapist, florist or photographer, a V.A. can help your business.

SPRING EQUINOX
50% Off in March
50% Off in March
At this time of year, we are now seeing the longer and lighter evenings, and the sunrise is much earlier than it was at winter solstice. This is also a time for planting. Both in the garden or the allotment, or the things that we thought about we would like to achieve at winter solstice, it's now time to start putting down the basics, and planting the seeds of what we want to achieve. So if you would like to celebrate this time, you can very simply either go to a garden or woodland, If the weather is not good be at a window so you can look upon the trees and nature. And simply just become aware of the surroundings of the trees the sky whether it's raining or sunny I'm just offer your appreciation. and then just say to the Kosmos, your angels, your guides or whoever, or whatever you feel you connect with, and ask that you be guided and helped to achieve the goal or goals that you wish. Finish with a thank you and blessings to all nature and higher beings. With love and blessings to all of us humans, and all other beings who share this planet. And may our hearts be filled with joy for this wonderful planet and her creatures. Marie
