What is Ileostomy

An ileostomy is a surgical procedure that involves the removing of the large intestine or colon and sometimes the rectum. The end of remaining small intestine is then cut and brought to the surface and forms a stoma. The ileostomy may be temporary or permanent.


Symptoms of Ileostomy

Various complications can develop during or soon after the operation. Obstruction may occur because sometimes the ileostomy dos not function for short periods of time after surgery. Dehydration may also occur because the large intestine has been removed and is not there to absorb water from food waste.
