Update from BBUK IMPRESS – Incontinence Management & PRevention through Engineering and ScienceS Joanne went to meet the IMPRESS team at Leeds University. •

IMPRESS is a project at the University of Leeds which aims to encourage more engineers and scientists to work on researching new technologies for incontinence. This was a great opportunity to look at incontinence from a completely different viewpoint. The approach by engineers is so different from the clinical viewpoint. A guided tour around the faculty and laboratory was really enlightening as it was almost like looking into the future and anticipating what individuals experiencing incontinence may need or want in the future to manage and prevent clinical symptoms. We know over time the numbers experiencing problems will increase so any innovation in this area is welcome. The team at Leeds are small but if some of the projects are successful they could offer real alternative solutions to what is presently available. It is inspiring to know that others are working towards improving continence care.

Yorkshire ACA update...Joanne has recently joined the Yorkshire ACA Committee as Vice Chair. This is an exciting opportunity for Joanne to become involved in an active branch of the ACA and support the committee in promoting the speciality of continence and the ACA organisation to all health professionals, generic and specialist. Joanne has been a member of the branch for many years and looks forward to working with the committee and the members.

BBUK Update Karen Irwin BBUK Specialist Nurse / Service Manager has been offered a position to join the RCN Continence Care Forum , commencing on 1st January 2018 .

An induction day was recently held at the RCN HQ in London for new forum members.... This was a really informative day, bringing together all newly appointed RCN forum committee members, from across all forums and areas of practice. The day provided us all with an opportunity to understand how the RCN forums support and work with RCN members, looking at the year ahead's plans and how we can all contribute professionally to the support and work within and across each others forums. “Forums are groups of RCN members, working in a similar nursing specialty or with like interests. Thousands of RCN members throughout the UK use forums to connect with each other, share ideas and achieve real change. Whether leading the way on a steering committee, or keeping up to date with important developments, forum members are at the cutting edge of the work of the RCN The forums offer a wealth of information for nurses, who can access information such as guidance for practice, forum web pages, social media contact , publications to name but a few. There are over 30 forums, something for everyone and I would encourage you all to join if not already members.

Disabled Living Supplier Directory The Directory has been created at the request of people who use Disabled Living as a resource, to identify companies or organisations who sell or provide equipment, products and services to support disabled children, adults and older people.

Access to the Supplier Directory is via the Disabled Living Website

Throughout 2016 we have consulted with a wide range of people who use Disabled Living’s Supplier Directory – professionals, service users, commercial colleagues and third sector organisations. They told us how much they valued the Supplier Directory, so we have made it easier to navigate and search for equipment, products and services. We have increased the number of words you can submit to describe your products and you can have separate wording for each category. You can list your equipment, products or services in up to five relevant categories.
