The Aphex decoder was a unique, non-Dolby licensed, design and Aphex dropped out of the surround market after this decoder, although they did OEM it for Proton a few years later. Its Ratio-Metric Detection Circuit produced incredible channel separation.. The 3 Fosgate DSM decoders shown were all co-designed by Peter Scheiber, the man who invented multichannel matrixing and logic steering, with Jim Fosgate perfecting the various technologies, starting with the amazing Fosgate Tate II 101A SQ Decoder.
