The event was a milestone in the history of this Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA) branch, a trade union organization linked to civil construction. The 100th anniversary was celebrated with a gala dinner at the Montecassino Hotel’s Ballroom. At the time, the General President of LiUNA, Terry O’Sullivan, said, “This is an important time not only for Local 506 members and leaders, but also for the entire LiUNA trade union organization”.
Joseph Mancinelli, International Vice-President and Regional Manager for Central and Eastern Canada, recalled that members of Local 506 “were a significant part of the dramatic changes in Toronto, a rapidly expanding modern city, despite its small size 100 years ago”.
