Introduction
Welcome to Your September Issue.
Welcome to your September edition and, as those sunny days of a few weeks ago soon become a distant memory, we’re now back into the “exam results” and “back to school” routines for many. Time to take a deep breath, look ahead and wonder why Christmas presents should already be on show in the shops! We’ve started the ball rolling here, with several local eating establishments giving advance notice of their Christmas and New Year plans. Before you go any further, however, and start making lists of who will get what eighteen weeks from now, just relax with your favourite magazine … and enjoy the month ahead.

This month we look at new businesses sitting next to long-established ones. Bourne’s latest addition, Newton’s Wine Bar and Tapas, is featured, whilst the much longer established Angel Hotel comes under the spotlight, with its long history alongside its present-day status. Find out who has been voted Top Dog of 2017, and try your hand at winning our motoring competition Finally, as thoughts of those summer survival strategies, adopted by many desperate parents over the last six weeks, fade away, how about the following advice, seen recently, to cope with all sorts of pains, (children included)? : When I get a headache, I just take two paracetamol and disappear, so that I can “keep out of the sight and reach of children” – just like it advises you to do on the packet! Enjoy the read!

School in the Spotlight
Bourne Abbey Kindergarten Bourne Abbey Kindergarten offers fee-paying and funded child care from two years of age. We understand that a child’s experience in the early years has a major impact on their future life chances. A secure, safe and happy childhood is important in its own right, and it provides the foundation for children to make the most of their abilities and talents as they grow up. When parents choose any early years settings, they want to know that the provision will keep their children safe and help them thrive. The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is the framework that provides assurance and sets standards to enable early years providers to deliver individualised learning, development and care that gives children the best possible start in life. Within the EYFS, there are three Prime and four Specific Areas of Learning and Development which all early years settings must deliver by law. Play underpins this development and learning for all young children. Most children play spontaneously, although some may need adult support, and it is through play that they develop intellectually, creatively, physically, socially and emotionally. We provide well-planned experiences based on children’s spontaneous play, both indoors and outdoors, and support young children to learn with enjoyment and challenge. The aim of the EYFS is to help young children achieve their potential. At Bourne Abbey Kindergarten, we recognise that children will have had a wide range of experiences and acquired a variety of skills and interests by the time they join us. Some children will already have spent time with a child minder, whilst for others starting Kindergarten will be their first significant amount of time away from a parent or carer. It is our responsibility to ensure that your child receives a rich and personalised play-based curriculum that will help to build a secure foundation for learning throughout their school years and beyond.
During their time in Kindergarten, staff make observations about a child’s learning and development. These observations may take the form of photographs, videos and conversations which will be uploaded on to your child’s online Learning Journal, called ‘Tapestry’. Parents/ carers are provided with a login to allow them access to the Learning Journal and have the opportunity to upload those ‘Wow’ moments from home. This gives instant accessibility to your child’s Kindergarten journey and insight into their day. Bourne Abbey Kindergarten is open from 8.45am to 3.15pm Monday – Friday, term-time only, and offers the following sessions: Session 1 - 8.45am to 11.45am - £13.20 Session 2 - 11.45am to 12.15pm - £2.00 Session 3 - 12.15pm to 3.15pm - £13.20 Should you require wrap-around care, Bourne Abbey Kids Club and Holiday Club can provide additional care from 7.30 a.m. to 8.45 a.m., and from 3.15 p.m. to 6.00 p.m. termtime, and from 8.00 a.m. – 6.00 p.m. during the Easter and summer holidays. Please feel free to phone school on 01778 422163 to book an appointment for the opportunity to look around and ask any questions. If you decide Kindergarten is the right place for your child, you will both be offered a taster session before starting. We also have a PEEP toddler group at Bourne Abbey which is held in the KS2 hall every Friday from 8.55-11am. All parents, carers, childminders etc. are welcome! It would be fab to see you there!

In the Hot Seat
IN THE HOT SEAT Owner/ manager/ worker in the ever-popular Wild Heart Café and Music Shop in Bourne’s Angel Precinct, Simon Burn is in this month’s “Hot Seat”. Now fifteen years a Bourne resident, Simon has been happily married to Sally for twenty-five years on October 28th, (“in case she thinks I have forgotten!”) and they have four “fantastic children”, (Stephanie, Daniel, Leon and Thalia), plus one son-in-law, Jonathan, and a future daughter-in-law, Kirsty. Simon left school at sixteen, found that he could cook, did day-release and became a chef, working in pubs and restaurants on the south coast, reaching the dizzy heights of “Head Chef”, before the children came along. A more family-friendly career in manufacturing at the Body Shop and later, in food production at several Bakkavor sites, followed. He still loves to cook and try to play guitar.
Simon Burn
Where were you born, and what is your favourite memory of your childhood? I was born in Woolwich in 1966 and my favourite memory is going on holiday to Littlehampton in West Sussex. My grandparents lived there and it has a lovely golden beach, and is very much the traditional seaside resort.
• Tony Benn; What a great orator and political thinker! I’d just like to hear him talk; he had such a great sense of humour.
Who has had the greatest influence on your life and why? I don’t think any one person can be granted that accolade. I would say that my family, (young and old), my many interactions with some great people, and a lot of reading over the years have influenced me in becoming what you see now. Which two characters, alive or not, would you most enjoy sharing a meal with and why? • Che Guevara - A doctor, an asthmatic and a revolutionary, his books and writings have interested me for years. I was obsessed with the Cuban Revolution and the subsequent

fallout politically and economically. I’d like to ask him if he’d do it all over again.
Bourne
How would you describe yourself in only five words? Husband, father, son, imperfect, lover of life. If there was one thing which you could change about Bourne, what would it be and why? I’d like to move it to be by the sea. Bourne has been good for us, but I still miss the sea air and the noise of the masts and rigging, blowing in the wind. What advice would you give to a “sixteen-yearold you”? Tough question, but all in all, I’d say, “Borrow less!” I’m sure somewhere in the ether I am still paying for my first car!

wine bar and tapas When Keith and Gail Newton decided to return to their home country after twenty years of living in France, they could hardly have expected such incredible feelings of warmth and helpfulness which they have been experiencing since settling in Bourne a year ago. It is their expressed intent to repay some of that kindness to their newly acquired friends and townsfolk, when their exciting new venture, Newton’s Wine Bar and Tapas, opens on August 22nd.

At the time of writing, the total refurbishment of what most recently had been trading as Rumbles Fish and Chip shop on North Street, Bourne, is nearing completion, and this energetic husband and wife team are enthusing about their plans. Rarely do you hear of such positivity and gratitude when people settle in a new area.
a new language), along the way. A move to St Emilion was followed by a final drift southwards towards the Spanish border, and a property in the Midi-Pyrenees. It would come as no surprise, therefore, to hear that life in such fabulous, wineproducing regions should inspire anyone to want others to share their love of the “Drink of the Gods”.
In 1998, Keith and Gail ventured into Brittany to renovate a property there, whilst learning new construction skills, (and

welcome opportunity to sample, in the most impressive of settings, a range of almost thirty wines. A third of them will be from France, but the rest will represent some of the finer exports from other wine-producing countries in Europe and the “New World”. Keith and Gail are indebted to Steve Flory from Amps Wine Merchants in Oundle, whose valuable advice and support have meant that Newton’s will be offering an exclusive wine list, supplied by Amps Wine Merchants, with nothing on the list available elsewhere within a twenty mile radius of Bourne. The added bonus comes when you notice that the price of such beauties is particularly competitive, and that the list will be regularly up-dated. The décor in the front bar includes slate and solid oak, with walls of neutral beige and terracotta. The comfortable seating for thirty adds to the overwhelming feeling of quality, which extends to a large and well-equipped terrace to the rear of the property. A large function room is also part of the long-term plans, along with a range of tapas dishes, although the emphasis will be more on the wine than on the accompanying food.

Safe Local Trades Comes to the Aid of Disabled Victim FOLLOWING months of stress, financial worry, poor health and anxiety brought on by the actions of a rogue trader, a disabled Peterborough man says he can now enjoy his home again. Brian Gilbert of Orton Waterville, Peterborough, parted with a £1,000 cash deposit to a trader who he instructed to resurface his 71 square metre driveway in February of this year. After taking the money – which equated to half of the fee quoted for the project – the trader completed half a day’s work at Mr Gilbert’s property and then failed to return to finish the job. Mr Gilbert, who uses a mobility scooter to get around, has been unable to contact the trader nor retrieve any of the money paid. The unfinished driveway has left access to his garage unsafe. Now, six months after the work began, Mr Gilbert says he can begin to enjoy his home once more – following a DIY SOS-style community call by Safe Local Trades, the city-based community safety service that protects consumers from cowboy and rogue traders. Safe Local Trades owner, Eileen Le
Eileen Le Voi and Kerry Cooper from Safe Local Trades with Brian Gilbert and Cllr Des Watt Voi, commented, “Determined to do what we could to help Mr Gilbert, we issued an appeal to the local trades community for any support they could give. We were delighted with the offer of help from a local tarmac and asphalt surfacing company to take over the work, and an offer of materials from another business.” Des Watt of Des Watt Roadways from Yaxley stepped in to restore and repair the driveway, with materials supplied free of charge by MQP of Baston. Councillor Watt said, “When we heard about Mr Gilbert’s plight, we wanted to step in and help. We often hear of rogue traders and their effect on unwitting customers, and this was a particularly

stressful example. “With the help of Eileen from Safe Local Trades, and Alex Smile of MQP, Mr Gilbert now has a fantastic and useable driveway which he can enjoy for many years to come.” Mr Gilbert commented, “The past few months have been nothing short of a nightmare. We can’t thank Eileen, and her colleague Kerry, enough for their advice and help which has led to the issue being resolved, and at no additional cost to the original quote.” Eileen added, “My huge thanks to Des, Alex and their teams for their support. Mr Gilbert is certainly not alone when it comes to being duped by rogues – many of whom appear to be completely genuine, and not all who cold call with a knock at the door”. New Restaurant Celebrates Local Daredevil On the first floor of The Broadway Theatre, which reopens this month, you’ll find Walter’s Bar and Eatery, a new restaurant named after an iconic Cambridgeshire strongman. Local legend Walter Cornelius came to England from Latvia in the 1940s, and died in 1983.
He was well known around the Peterborough area for his fearless escapades (such as walking on his hands for 153 miles, or pushing a double decker bus for half a mile with his head) and breaking over fifty world records. He raised a fortune for various good causes, and his celebrity status was cemented via appearances on the likes of Blue Peter and Opportunity Knocks. Open every day from early morning until the twilight hours, and with ambient live music between noon and 3.00pm, the restaurant promises to provide the perfect

devouring twenty three bangers in ten minutes.”
Mark Ringer, Managing Director of The Broadway, said: “Walter used to be a concierge at The Broadway when it was an Odeon cinema. When I went to see films way back when, he was the one who made sure we behaved ourselves!”
“In another mammoth feat, he ate 3lb 8oz of raw onions in two minutes and two seconds. While the ingredients in our dish won’t be raw, they’ll certainly be unusual, mouth-watering and delicious!”
Another feature of the restaurant will be the ‘Cornelius Banger’ – a signature snack sourced from local suppliers, supplemented by onions prepared via a secret recipe. Alex Geairns, Station Director for Hereward Media, who is assisting with marketing for The Broadway, commented: “Walter won the ‘World Sausage Eating Championship’ in 1966,

History
Discovering . . . the Angel Hotel
- Rex Needle
T
here has been a hostelry of some sort on this site in the town centre since the earliest times and the present building dates from the 18th century. It was an important posting house during coaching days when Bourne was on the main route between London and the north. A daily stagecoach service connecting with Lincoln, York and Hull passed through, often making an overnight stop and usually picking up passengers and more than one baby was born there after lady travellers went into labour during the journey. There was also a mail coach and a wagon service for heavy goods and carriers operated local services to surrounding towns. By 1857, an omnibus left the Angel Hotel at 8 am every morning to connect with the railway station at Tallington on the Great Northern line. As the coaching days ended, the livery stables at the rear of the building were incorporated into the main hotel and by 1900 it boasted fifteen bedrooms and a banqueting room that could accommodate 150 people. The courtyard and outbuildings can still be seen together with an ostler’s bell preserved on the wall which was used by stagecoach drivers to summon help when they arrived while outside on the street, the town pump which was strategically placed on the pavement to provide for the

needs of the coach horses that stopped here has long since disappeared. Apart from its function as a hotel, the Angel was also registered as an Excise Office from 1808 onwards where manufacturers of a wide range of goods were required to pay the necessary dues. The hotel’s present appearance with its distinctive pattern of small gables dates from 1851-2 when an extensive programme of rebuilding and refurbishment was undertaken. The work took several months and involved demolishing and rebuilding the frontage that we see today in a style which a local newspaper reported “will add much ornament to the market place”. In the summer of 1985, the outbuildings and stables at the rear of the hotel were converted into a new shopping centre called the Angel Walk. Seven shops were included in the arcade with glazed domes built into the roof to provide light. Since then, there have been several owners and the interior has been greatly changed and modernised while the hotel continues to serve the area from its prominent position at the southern end of North Street, a permanent reminder to everyone that Bourne has always been a welcoming town. The Angel Hotel – Tasteful Coffee Shop, Quality Accommodation and Spacious Function Room For those of us who have seen the fortunes of one of the town’s principal hostelries fluctuate to the extent that those of the Angel Hotel certainly have over the last two decades, it comes as a considerable reassurance to see the transformation that has occurred recently. Four years ago, Carol Schofield accepted the challenge of “turning around” this once prestigious town centre hotel, with its flourishing bars and restaurant reputation, that had then fallen on hard times. A handful of years, where new owners came and soon departed, left more than a question mark hanging over its long-term future. During these uncertain times for the Angel, in an increasingly popular coffee shop, “The Bean Bag”, literally yards away, Carol was building up, over ten years, a reputation for quality service and an efficiently run business. The opportunity to take on the Angel presented itself in 2013, and this enabled Carol to now run a much larger and more complex operation. It was to be not just a coffee shop, but there were now twelve bedrooms and a massive function room to consider, along with the opportunity to offer outside catering. The Angel Coffee Shop has proven to be a real success story, with a capacity of almost fifty, and occupies a large, yet cosy room, most sympathetically decorated for this Grade Two listed property. A William Morris-designed, wall covering and tasteful furniture fabrics suggest opulence. The lunch-time menu offers substantial meals, such as cottage pie, tuna bake and chilli, alongside homemade quiches and sausage rolls. The “Afternoon Tea”, comprising “Ritz-style sandwiches”, warm homemade scones and cream, a selection of homemade cakes and a choice of hot drinks, is one of the Angel’s most popular indulgences, (and needs to be booked in advance). The
Angel can also make your celebration or wedding cake. There is a full licence for alcohol. Carol is particularly grateful for her many regulars who have followed her from “The Bean Bag”, and continue to enjoy the hospitality offered by the Angel. Besides the recent re-decoration of the Coffee Shop, all twelve en-suite bedrooms have undergone substantial refurbishment and continue to be an integral part of the Angel’s daily business. Whilst there are no evening meals on offer at the Angel, there are breakfasts available to residents, taken in the Coffee Shop and to customers from 8am. Carol is proud of the gold citation for “Accommodation of the Year 2016”, received as part of last year’s “Lincolnshire Life” Taste of Excellence Food and Drink Awards. The third main string to the Angel’s bow, alongside the Coffee Shop and the top quality accommodation, is the enormous upstairs function room, fondly remembered by many as “The Long Room” and “The Copperfield Suite”. Now known as The Coach House, with its well-stocked bar, licensed for a hundred guests, this finely furnished facility lends itself to almost anything, from wedding receptions and Christenings to wakes, prom and birthday parties.

Mayor
Words from the Mayor Councillor Paul Fellows
A quieter month for Judi and me, with our schools on holiday and the garden fete season coming to an end. Well done, parents and all the providers in Bourne of ‘stuff for the kids to do’ for all your efforts. However, here’s a question to the mindless idiots who graffiti, vandalise and break things: “Why?” In the words of B.A.Baracus, from “The A-Team”, ‘Pity the Fools.’ One of the highlights of July was the Art Installation in the Town Hall; the ‘Rebirth’ project was a timely boost to the project that will be the ‘Sessions House’, an Art Centre in the middle of the town, and the main recipient of my charity. If you were lucky enough to have visited it, you will no doubt have been impressed with the quality of art work on display done by children in Bourne and surrounding villages. Huge congratulations to all involved. My own work experience project carries on unabated. I was ‘stand in caretaker’ at Elsea Park Centre, and a big thank you to Emma for looking after me. Further thanks to Nicky and Jenny for a fantastic day at Sainsbury’s with a ‘big up’ to Neil for being my till buddy. I would like to invite you to ‘unleash your inner adolescent’ and come along to the Mayor’s “Old Skool Disco” on Saturday September 30th at The Centre at Elsea Park, (7.00pm, for school dinner at 7.30pm). £10 will get you a school dinner, served by dinner ladies, which will almost certainly be sausage and mash, followed by a choice of two sticky school puds! This will be followed by a performance by the Schools Rock Band and then a disco. There will be a tuck shop and the smokers’ corner will be regularly patrolled. (You know who you are!) The wearing
of school uniform is totally encouraged and alcohol will be sold at the complete discretion of the staff! Tickets are available from The Elsea Park Centre and the Town Council office. And finally, a little rant … The Town Council has been compiling a response to SKDC’s Local Plan, after consulting with Bourne residents. I really wish I was more optimistic. Despite recent leadership changes and accompanying promises that SKDC would in fact take the trouble to listen, time and time again we, on the Town Council, are left feeling that SKDC consider our opinions are not worth having, usually because we have not been consulted in the first place. I’m not even very sure that they bother getting the opinion of your elected Bourne SKDC councillors. Please feel free to ask them, though they don’t mind consulting with groups such as the newly reformed Bourne Business Club. I like the sound of the phrase ‘democracy-hypocrisy’, which is probably grammatical nonsense but sums up how I feel. Prove me wrong, SKDC!

Gather ’N’ Sew – (a gathering place for friends, fabric and inspiration) When Bourne’s “Sew Friendly” shop closed its doors recently, after three years of trading, scores of regular customers were left very disappointed, but not for long, as one of the original partners was able to continue trading as the sole owner of a new shop, and she has been so thrilled to see a most supportive customer-base return, in even bigger numbers than before. Leanne de Lima Araujo speaks enthusiastically of how she is living out her long-held dream of owning a business, sewing beautiful garments, supplying a wide range of fabrics and teaching inspiring classes on her premises. The “gather” part of the shop’s name refers to Leanne’s programme of sewing classes which she is offering the public. Within the “classroom” section of her Crown Walk premises, customers can also rent a table and spend time on their own projects, with Leanne on hand to offer advice,
gained from her lifelong love of working with needle and thread. Gather ’N’ Sew stocks a good range of fabrics for patchwork, quilting, dressmaking and soft furnishings, with accompanying haberdashery items, such as ribbons and zips. Another way in which Leanne is trying to support her customers’ needs is to build up an extensive stock of jersey materials. Leanne will be hosting “Sew Saturday”, an event promoted by “Sew” magazine, on Saturday October 21st, where events and fun activities will be held, including the start of a community quilt project, aimed at raising much-needed funds for the Three Counties Dog Rescue scheme. For further details, why not just pop in and see what Leanne can offer, from this, her “one-stop shop for people with sewing interests”?

The Truth about Cellulite
by Claire Saunders, Renu - Health, Beauty & Fitness
M
ost women are lucky if they escape the onset of cellulite at some point in their lives. This is because their fat stores are arranged in large chambers underneath a fairly thin layer of skin. These chambers are separated by columns of collagen fibres in a grid fashion. As women age, the fibres shrink and thicken, pulling the skin downward. This results in a quilt-like appearance on the skin surface, especially in the areas around the buttocks, thighs or hips. During the latter stages of pregnancy, hormonal changes cause collagen to break down in preparation for childbirth, and this can also set the stage for the formation of cellulite. Therefore, women can develop cellulite as they age, regardless of their size, age or race. Men are less likely to suffer with cellulite, as they have thicker skin and the chambers are smaller and more tightly held together. Many scientists believe cellulite, like obesity, is mostly pre-determined by our genes. So what can you do to delay the process and reduce the problem? • Control your Weight. Following a low fat, high fibre diet will help to decrease fat accumulation.
• Ageing. As women age, skin sags and wrinkles, and the body requires less energy, so increasing fat accumulation. Hydrating the body by drinking plenty of water and regularly exfoliating and moisturising the skin will keep skin toned and delay the ageing process • Lack of exercise. A sedentary lifestyle will cause poor blood circulation and poor muscle tone under the skin. Working out for at least thirty minutes, three or more times a week, firms up the skin by increasing muscle tone and keeping connective tissue fibres healthy. • Beware of high fat and sugar consumption. Both lead to increased body fat and thus, cellulite. Eating a low fat, low sugar, high fibre diet with emphasis on fruits, vegetables and whole grains will combat this problem and assist with weight loss. • Avoid highly processed foods that contain preservatives, artificial sweeteners and other additives. Heavy consumption of pre-packaged food causes buildup of toxins in the body. You also need to moderate your caffeine and alcohol intake. • Yo-Yo dieting. This causes a woman to lose fat in the upper body while increasing fat deposits in the buttocks, thighs and hips. Make small sensible changes to your diet. • Sun exposure. Prolonged exposure to the sun accelerates the skin ageing process. • Smoking. This causes poor blood circulation and contributes to premature ageing of the skin and increases toxins in the body. If you would like further advice on exercise, nutrition and anti-cellulite treatments, please contact one of the Renu Team on 01778 423923.

Anger Management - Hypnosis can Help!
Anger happens in many ways from social discomfort and general aggravation to violent outbursts over minor situations, such as ‘road rage’. Hypnosis is an ideal way to get in control of your anger.
area of the brain which fires out the anger response, to the more helpful, analytical reasonable part, where the best options are always available.
When a person becomes angry, physiological and biological changes prepare the body for action - the body releases stress hormones, such as adrenaline, noradrenaline and cortisol. The heart rate increases, blood pressure rises and the body temperature changes. There is an urgent need to discharge physical or verbal action to anyone around you.
Hypnotherapy can help you to think more positively and clearly and helps you to recognise problems for what they are. Things that used to bother you won’t be such a form of annoyance any more, allowing you to:
Angry people look trance-like because they are overwhelmed by provoking thoughts and reactions. The logical brain is switched off, giving less control, and anger robs us of our dignity, compassion and clear thinking. Anger issues can have a wide variety of causes, and each person will have individual reasons for their rage. Previous experiences of hurt, bereavement, despair, stress, anxiety or depression can bring it on. Regular episodes of anger can eventually increase our chances of becoming ill, whilst long- term, unresolved anger can create a downward spiral, bringing about mental and physical health problems, such as elevated blood pressure. However, anger is a natural survival instinct centred in the fight/ flight area of the brain, a response which protects us from what we perceive to be a danger or threat. Sometimes, however, our brains can get it wrong, and perhaps our children fighting, a boss at work, or a partner can illicit the same response. When our anxiety/stress levels are higher than they should be, our brains can see things from a different perspective, perceiving nonthreatening things as a threat. Control of your thoughts, your feelings, and your life. Anger can affect our families, friends or work colleagues. Solution Focused Hypnotherapy helps you to reduce your anger levels and helps you to regain control. By reducing your overall stress and anxiety levels, you will start to move from the more primitive
• Feel more relaxed and ‘laid back’ in general. • Be less likely to be roused to anger. • When you do find yourself getting angry, you can quickly calm yourself down, think much more clearly and calmly in frustrating situations, and work out a way forward. • Feel more in control. • Feel that relationships with everyone around you begin to improve. In Solution Focused Hypnotherapy, we work towards your desired outcomes and goals, enabling you to positively change your future in a way that is best for you and unique to your own personality and circumstances. Length of treatment will, of course, depend on you and your circumstances, but the majority of clients experience a significant change after six to eight sessions.

Back Pain and Children by Philip Hakim
A
s a new term and, for some, a brand new school, is now with us, here are some thoughts to help minimise the risk of your child getting back pain.
Good school bags Children are often required to carry bags full of books, PE kits, musical instruments and other equipment to and from school. Parents should invest in a good quality back pack that the child should wear across both shoulders, ideally with a strap across the chest to keep the load close to their body, (however ‘un-cool’!) Packing the bag with the heaviest items closest to child’s body will help. Limit screen time Looking down to use smart phones, tablets and laptops for an extended period is a “necessary evil” today, but it can pull the back and neck into unnatural postures resulting in pain. Trying to limit the time spent using mobile devices and encouraging regular breaks and time behind a properly set up desk based computer, may help to avoid problems. For laptops, consider purchasing a support that elevates the screen to a height that allows the child to sit up straight with their eyes at screen level. Working whilst sat across a bed propped up by the wall is a definite non-starter. Regular exercise A sedentary lifestyle is known to contribute to the risk of developing back pain, as well as contributing to obesity. Regular physical activity helps to keep the core muscles that support the spine strong and maintain flexibility, which will help to avoid back pain. Encourage lots of active play, such as walking, running, swimming and cycling to keep your child fit and healthy. The right bed and pillow Good quality sleep is vital for both physical and mental development. Having a good sized comfortable bed with a suitable mattress for their weight is really important. Pillows should support the head without lifting it too high, so the spine stays aligned. One pillow is usually sufficient for sleeping on your back and two if you prefer your side. Osteopathic Treatment for your child’s back pain Your child’s back pain may benefit from osteopathic treatment. Using gentle manual therapy, an osteopath will help to resolve any stresses and strains that are affecting their body and relieve their pain. They can also provide lifestyle advice that may help to prevent the problem from recurring. For further information, please feel free to contact the practice to speak to one of our osteopaths.

Flu Prevention - Advice from the Hereward Practice
W
ith autumn fast approaching, it is most important to protect yourself from influenza (the flu). Having the vaccine is an extremely effective step to prevent contracting the virus. Flu vaccination can reduce flu illnesses, doctors’ visits, and missed work and school due to flu, as well as preventing flu-related hospital admissions. Vaccination of high-risk persons is especially important to decrease their risk of severe flu illness. People at high-risk of serious flu complications include: ● Pregnant women ● People with certain chronic health conditions like asthma, diabetes, kidney disease or heart and lung disease ● People aged sixty-five years and over
● Any person with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of forty or over, (eligible this year for a free flu vaccination) ● All children aged two and three on August 31st 2017 (that is, children born between September 1st 2013 and August 31st 2015). They are eligible for flu vaccination via a nasal spray Vaccination is important for people who live with, or care for high-risk people to prevent spreading flu to them, so, if you are caring for a family member who requires a flu vaccination, the practice can offer you the flu vaccination too. Flu Vaccination is FREE if you are in any of the above categories. People attending who are over the age of sixty-five years will also be checked to ensure that their pulse rate is regular, to exclude a condition called atrial fibrillation (AF). They may also be eligible to receive other NHS vaccinations and these can all be done in the one appointment. The Hereward Practice flu clinics will start on Saturday September 16th, 8am to 2pm, with a second clinic on Saturday September 23rd. Patients should ring in to book an appointment. Should you attend the practice for another appointment after September 16th, please ask for your flu vaccination – all of our nurses and healthcare assistants, plus our primary care practitioners can do this for you. We would like to extend a warm welcome to our new nurse, Melissa Rodgers. She has joined a well-established nursing team, comprising Debbie Back (Lead Nurse) and Pat Rennie, plus our Healthcare Assistants – Julie, Chris, Fran, Molly and Janet.

Believe in your own ability and expect to succeed. Self-raising ingredient of confidence, self-esteem and commitment. Feel good about what you do and be passionate about it. Treat your business with respect, nurture it and believe in its success. Full jug of positivity. Tell everybody you talk to about your business; by phone, face to face, text, e-mail. Immerse yourself in the role of being successful, be confident in your business and give yourself positive messages. Flavouring is your body language; facial expression, intonation of voice, words you use and your general business image. This is your shop window, and first impressions count. wHy ExERCIsE? In the beginning of human history “Man” was a ‘hunter/gatherer’. In order to eat, he had to hunt. In order to survive he had to run away from savage animals. Through history “Man” has been active – until now!
I haven’t exercised for years, why start now? Because its never too late!
Dozens of studies and research over many years have shown that individuals who exercise, irrespective of how old they are: enjoy a much better quality of life, enjoy life more and enjoy more life!

Gardening
The Potting Shed Nights are starting to draw in and, with the shorter days, less time to spend on the allotment or vegetable garden. Growth is slowing down now and hopefully you should be able to get on top of the weed growth. Also, although September can be a warm month, watering should be less of an issue. Needless to say, there will still be plenty of jobs to do! Early crops are coming to an end now but there are still autumn fruits, maybe French and runner beans, courgettes, sweetcorn and tomatoes; there may even be some early leeks or Brussels sprouts that might be ready for picking. Make sure that you lift onions and potatoes before the arrival of cold damp days, and check that they are fully dried out before storage; any damaged potatoes should be eaten first and not stored with the good ones. As far as sowing seeds and planting out goes, there’s not much that can be done. You can still sow rocket, spinach, oriental salad leaves and winter lettuces. Crop covers keep the temperature slightly higher than the ambient temperature, and they protect the plants from getting battered by harsher weather conditions. Now is the time to plant overwintering onions, which will be ready for lifting in June next year, and also garlic – buy your garlic bulbs from a garden centre rather than trying to plant bulbs from the supermarket as they may not be disease-free. Spring cabbages can be planted in their final positions, but it is wise to cover them in netting to keep the birds and other pests at bay. As the summer harvest comes to an end, there will be plenty SALES | REPAIRS | SERVICE | PARTS | HIRE

of plant debris which can be composted ready to condition the soil next spring. Check that it is not diseased. Also, any crops that are still in the ground should have dead or yellowing material removed, as this can harbour diseases that thrive in the damp conditions. A few jobs that need doing include: ● Cut down asparagus to 2.5cms (1in) above the ground. ● Turn the compost heap and water if it is dry. ● Earth-up or stake Brussels and remove any yellowing lower leaves or those that have fallen off, as these are ideal homes for pests to shelter. Tall growing varieties may need staking against autumn winds. ● Harvest apples and pears. ● Ripen pumpkins and squashes by removing leaves to allow sunlight in. ● Clear away old foliage and vegetation – leaving it to rot on the soil may spread diseases. ● Plant new strawberry plants and those propagated from runners. ● Sow “green manures” such as field beans, annual rye grass or phacelia, which overwinter and can be dug in the ground next spring.
Happy harvesting!

he B.I.B. August meeting featured two guest speakers. Councillor Matthew Lee, the Leader of South Kesteven District Council, spoke about the exciting ways in which they intend to liven up the streets of the town, including the possibility of returning the market to its former location on West Street. Claire Saunders, the owner of Renu, Bourne’s health, fitness and beauty centre, gave a truly inspirational talk on her business career and what an eventful journey she continues to be enjoying. Both of these speakers typify what B.I.B. is all about – very informative subject material, professionally presented, and all within an atmosphere of friendship and fun. So, if you are in business in the Bourne area, and want to become involved in our group, why not come along to our next meeting on Tuesday September 19th, at 6 pm in the Angel Hotel?

Your Finances
Pensions Freedom
by Paul Ross, Financial Planner at Landmark IFA Ltd
M
any people tell me how complicated pensions are, but they’re actually a relatively straightforward proposition. Quite simply, they are a tax-efficient plan, allowing you to save for your retirement. The greater the value of the ‘pot’, the higher the level of income you could withdraw. The good news is that the Inland Revenue will add tax relief to your personal contributions, thereby increasing the final value of your individual pension. Once you reach the age of fiftyfive, and at any time after this, you can gain access to your funds. The majority of people leave their pension pot until they reach retirement as this is what it’s designed for – an addition to your state pension. However, in a nutshell, you can take 25% of your pot as a tax-free Pension Commencement Lump Sum. (PCLS). The other 75% is there to provide an income. So, this change in the rules seems like a really good thing and, for relatively low-value pensions, it may well be. For example, a pot of £100,000 would yield a tax-free lump sum of £25,000 plus an annual income
of around £317 per month* which may well be taxable, and assumes that you get the best available rate, which is almost certainly not with your existing insurance company. It seems to be an easy decision - £75,000 in your pocket is better than £317 per month and hoping that you live to the age of eightyfive or more. However, bear in mind tax! That nice lump sum of £75,000 is taxable, so the chances are that you will lose an enormous amount in tax.... but that’s assuming that the £75,000 is your only income for the year. Add, say, another £20,000 of earnings for the year and you’re up to £26,700 of tax, so any decision you take needs to be weighed very carefully, and we’d suggest that you take professional advice.
financial advice before taking huge decisions like these. We have all seen adverts promising to liberate your pension, even below the age of fifty-five; these are invariably scams and will lead to you paying huge amounts of tax. Many people worry that paying fees to an adviser is not worthwhile, but a good independent financial adviser could well either save you money or gain you better returns, and will almost certainly pay for themselves many times over. *(Source: Assureweb - Aug. 17 Single life, level annuity at 65)
The problem is exacerbated as the figures hit £100,000. At that point, you lose your personal allowance altogether and effective tax rates of 60% are not unheard of. The advice is always the same... seek INDEPENDENT

Bourne Computer Store in Crown Walk offers retail customers an unrivalled range of products and support, and with Bourne’s only other computer specialist shop, MyTeq, recently closing down, now is the time to see for yourself why so many customers for so long, have been saying, “P.C. or laptop problems? Better call Ray!” The “Ray” in question is the vastly experienced and widely-travelled Ray Crane, owner and manager of Bourne Computer Store. Ray spent twenty years in Queensland, Australia, working in the photography industry and rising to become Industrial Sales manager of a large retail company. It was here, in the late 1980s, that an interest in computers as a hobby was born, and, upon his return to England in 1993, Ray became the manager of Radio Rentals in Spalding, selling Olivetti computers with its DOS Windows 3 program. Ray joined Tandem Software and worked in their Crown Walk premises from 1996, until becoming the sole owner of their retail shop in December 2014. So, why should you “Better call Ray”? In his own words, “I have a passion for helping people and solving problems, I’m dedicated to supporting my clients, and I was nominated for the ‘Best in Bourne’ competition in recognition of my helpful attitude to my clients, of which I am very proud.” The services which Ray can provide are many and varied. He can assist with computer and IT-related equipment, and help with upgrading, replacing or servicing your machine. Laptop screens he can replace, viruses he can remove and so restore your system. Media services which are on offer include transferring data from video tapes to a DVD, and video files from an SD card converted to a DVD. He can also rescue deleted images from a memory card. Ray sells laptops, desktop PCs, printers, tablets and software. Accessories are there too, from laptop and phone chargers, tablet and phone cases, through laptop bags to an extensive range of cables. Refurbished equipment is available, where part exchange could be an option, whilst Ray can offer very competitive deals on remanufactured printer ink. In the present time, where LPs have made a welcome return, it is an opportunity that Ray couldn’t resist so, if you are on the look-out for some classic vinyl, there are over six hundred albums in stock, so, once again, “Better call Ray!”

Trapped in a Loveless Marriage You would think that, nowadays, getting a divorce is the easy part of ending a marriage. It is the sorting out of the finances and issues to do with the children, which are more likely to cause the headaches. Not so for Mrs Tini Owens, 66, of Worcestershire, however. So far, she has not managed to untie the knot from her 78-year-old husband, after nearly forty years of marriage, and the case is still going through the appeal courts. Mrs Owens, who actually had an affair because she felt so unloved by her husband, filed a petition based on his unreasonable behaviour, when he refused to petition on her adultery. However, Mr Owens defended the proceedings, stating that the marriage had not irretrievably broken down. The highly unusual step of contested divorce proceedings followed, so far going as high as the Court of Appeal. Mrs Owens has still not been allowed her divorce.
Too dearly loved to be forgotten... Special Memorials for Special People Specialists in the design and manufacture of headstones in Bourne
The moral of this tale is two-fold. First, it is high time that Parliament reformed divorce laws to remove the need for “fault to be proven. The UK is very much out of kilter with other Western countries in this regard. Second, whilst this current system remains in force, you should consult a Family Law Practitioner if you have any doubts about the way forward in your divorce proceedings. Increasingly, people aim to save money by the DIY approach online, but this can run into difficulties. Ending a marriage is a very serious step, and expert advice will make sure that you do it correctly and may save you money in the long run.

Legal Corner
Resolving Children’s Issues on the Parents’ Separation If, sadly, parents decide to separate, it is essential that they try to remain as amicable as is possible. When the parents live separately, they have to decide which parent is to have the children resident with them and then how much time should be spent with the other. If the relationship permits, it might be possible for the children to spend equal time with each parent (perhaps by splitting the week or two weeks). Often, that is not possible and a regime where a child or children spend time, say Friday to Sunday fortnightly or otherwise, with perhaps a stop-over in the middle of a week, is more usual. With the school holidays, parents may be able to consider the school calendar for the whole academic year. Each parent should consider if they can agree how the holidays will be shared. Some parents literally share the annual total of six and a half weeks each, but others settle for less. Sensitive
days, such as birthdays and Mother’s and Father’s Day should be carefully factored in. Sports Days and Open Evenings at school can still be dealt with jointly, even if parents are no longer living together. If the parents really are struggling with one another, they can be seen separately. Every child has the right to enjoy their childhood in a way that is protected from the difficulties faced by the grownups. If the parents are struggling, they should seek legal advice or attend mediation. If this proves unsuccessful, a parent may have to issue court proceedings, but will need a certificate from a mediator first. There are fees payable to a mediator and the court, unless a fee remission applies. On many an occasion, some input from a solicitor or a mediator can make a real lasting difference to what can be very difficult circumstances.

September is the “Buzz Month” for House Moves (and for bees!) by Philip Bell, Senior Valuer, Newton Fallowell
M
ixed emotions are in the air, as parents and grandparents alike will no doubt be breathing a deep sigh of relief as the kids head back to school, having terrorised us for the duration of the summer holidays. “Are we nearly there yet?” may still be causing us to wake with a start in the middle of the night, after those long trips to see friends, places and family. Teachers will be psyching themselves up to face the return to the school working week, but many of us will also be feeling it’s time to make a move, of a different sort.
moment’s peace from the hordes of wild kids.
September is the “buzz month” in the housing calendar – yes, spring is always busy, but this month sees many families deciding that it’s time to get a bigger house. Grandparents may also be thinking a smaller house or bungalow may help them fend off childcare duties, whilst a bigger house may enable mum and dad to find a
The housing market can look like a daunting place but, with us on board, we’ll steer you right, whether it’s mortgages, rentals or sales. We have many years’ experience helping people make their hopes a reality so, if you want to make a move this September, just give us a call and we’ll make it happen.
This is all tongue in cheek, of course, but some reality rings through. A small house that a family has outgrown is, in truth, quite a negative experience for all involved. Being under each other’s feet is a sure-fire way to get snappy and fall out with people, so making a move could be just what you need, and walking into your new home and feeling the space to breathe more easily would most likely be the best thing you do this year.

Launderette est. 1996
NONE of us like the thought of our friends, family or even ourselves being scammed – and duped into parting with cash or even personal security information. Rogue traders, hi-tech scammers or cowboy service operators can convince and catch even the most wary of people off their guard; with a cold-call knock at the door or what seems like a genuine telephone call or marketing literature. Sadly, statistics show that the most vulnerable, when to being duped, are the over-70s in terms of financial loss - to the tune of a staggering £4,500 from a number of different types of scams.

And, according to figures from the Citizens Advice Bureau, people aged between 61–80 are more likely to be victims of investment fraud, with victims losing an average of £10,000. The same can apply to traders either knocking at the door and suggesting work needs doing to your property, or through leaflet drops. Always check the credentials of traders if you are in doubt, and certainly 2 01/08/2017 14:35 before you agree to any work and part with your cash. We recently had a case of a disabled customer who parted with £1,000 cash - half the fee quoted for driveway repairs - to a trader who did half a day’ s work and was never seen again. Attempts to contact him and retrieve the money failed, leaving the customer to face five months of misery before the project was remedied by Safe Local Trades and Yaxley business, Des Watt Roadways. Our advice to anyone – who is either contacted by telephone, e-mail or in person – is not to be afraid to ask questions and challenge their motives. If you are in the older age bracket, it is also worth remembering: • With thousands of bogus health products for sale online, the best advice is to proceed with real caution when considering any new medicine or healthcare product. • Although there are legitimate companies who make a living by tracking down heirs, they don’t do it in this way. If you’re asked for a fee for a report, it’s very likely to be bogus. • Don’t respond to competitions you haven’t entered and never reveal your bank details or pay fees in advance to release your prize. • When it comes to cold callers – never be pressured into making an on-the-spot decision, signing up for any work and indeed, handing over any money. If in doubt about the reputation of any professional trader – visit www.safelocaltrades.com for reliable and recommended local traders or telephone 0800 014 1832.

Get Fit, Get Walking - with a dog by Lionel Smith
T
here is no doubt that one of the most important things that you can do to improve your health is to go on a brisk walk for a couple of miles, on five or more days a week. This improves heart health, reduces blood pressure and blood sugar levels. It reduces cancer risk (and actually improves your ability to fight cancer if you have it); it increases your general fitness and improves your mental health. The biggest obstacle to achieving this, though, is
maintaining your motivation when life gets busy, when you feel tired, when the weather is poor or when you just don’t feel like it. It’s time to bring out the secret weapon - a dog! My dogs always get excited when they see me preparing for a walk. They never get bored with walking, they don’t worry about the weather and they are never too busy. This enthusiasm is infectious, as we understand how important it is to walk our dogs. We will be driven to make sure we keep our dogs healthy, and we might even forget what is healthy for us. Dogs get much more out of a walk than we do. As well as attentively seeing and hearing everything around them, they can “see” with their noses. They know what other animals have been past, they can seek out anything vaguely edible and they know what the neighbours have had for breakfast! Walking with your dog adds interest. They help us see things that we might otherwise miss. They do things that make us laugh (although sometimes rolling in fox poo can be less than amusing!) They make it easier for us to interact with strangers, as there is nothing easier than exchanging dog stories. On longer walks, they keep us going. Don’t forget that what is good for the goose is good for the gander. We know our dogs need a walk every day for their health … and so do we. Well, I am off now to Rutland Water - my dogs are about to take me for a walk!

Your once-a-year chance to discover some of Lincolnshire’s rarely seen historic treasures from September 7th – 10th. Heritage Open Days celebrates England’s architecture and culture by allowing visitors free access to interesting properties that are not usually publicly accessible, or would normally charge a fee. It also includes tours, events and activities that focus on and celebrate the local heritage of the area. It is England’s biggest and most popular voluntary cultural event and is also held in countries across Europe. Ever since 1994, Heritage Lincolnshire has co-ordinated Heritage Open Days within the historic county and this year’s festival will be one of their biggest yet, with over 140 free events! The theme is Freedom, Justice and Equality to mark the 800th anniversary of the Charter of the Forest, a copy of which is held alongside Magna Carta at Lincoln Castle. This lesser known charter restored the historic rights and freedoms of common people to gather fuel, food and graze their animals in royal forests across the kingdom. So look out for events celebrating hard won freedoms, historic crimes and cruel punishments.
Other events nearby include: “That’s Entertainment” history tour at Stamford Corn ExchangeTheatre, 7th- 8th, from 10-30am - 11-30am.
This year, there are two venues in Bourne that will be opening their doors, Bourne Town Hall and Baldocks Mill. You are invited to “Explore the Courtroom at Bourne Town Hall”, which was built in 1821 as a courthouse and open market, and was funded by local people and those associated with Bourne in some way –you can see a list of donors on the wall in the courtroom. Explore the entire building at your own pace and discover the plans for its future. The Town Hall will be open from 10pm- 4pm on September 9th and 10th. “Fashion and Racing in Days Gone By” is the theme of Baldocks Mill’s event and it will be open on September 9th and 10th, from 12noon – 4pm. The museum contains three floors of exhibitions. Visit the stunning Charles Worth gallery or experience the life of racing driver, Raymond Mays, as well as an insight into old local industries.
“Stamford from the Air” at All Saints Church, 9th - 10th, from 10am-1pm. “Family Tree Workshop” at Stamford Library, 9th, from10am -2pm. “History of the Deepings,” at The Odd Fellows Hall, Market Deeping, 9th, from 2pm - 5pm.

Band in the Spotlight
Revolver Revolver have become known for their highly energetic stage performances of all the biggest indie anthems. A very visual band to watch, they manage to engage the audience from the word go and make any event belong to the audience as much as the band. Don’t be surprised to see frontman, Nok bring his Geordie charm into the crowd and get the less shy joining in. With over 250 gigs behind them in the four and a half years since vocalist Nok and Mark Delaine-Smith, (former member of the UK’s top Oasis tribute band), started the band in 2013, Revolver have been earning the main billing on many festivals from the North East down to local ones in their Lincolnshire homeland, such as Bourne, Deeping, Peterborough, Spalding, Boston and Skegness. Joining Nok and Mark are the dynamic Danny Hunt on guitar and explosive Dan Spence on drums. It has often been commented that, when watching the band you can’t keep still; whichever one of the four you watch, there’s always something going on. If you are into the big indie numbers by Oasis, The Kaiser Chiefs, Stereophonics, The Killers, Feeder, U2, up-to-date pop like Walk the Moon or classics by The Jam, The Police, Erasure and even quirky stuff like Wheatus and Scouting for Girls (Revolver were chosen as the support act to Scouting for Girls in 2016), and you like your tunes served up bursting with energy and performance with ripping riffs and full-on vocal
harmonies, then you will have a top night and join the many others who have become a part of the large Revolver family. Off-stage, whilst Revolver are professional when they need to be, they are still four down-to-earth loons having too much of a good time, enjoying the laughs and camaraderie of it all, to be aloof rock stars about it. You’ll always be welcome to come and say hello to the band. Revolver headlined Bourne Festival and Spalding Festival this year, they were the evening band at CrookFEST in County Durham, and have played several smaller festivals, besides being the band at many weddings and birthday parties throughout the year. They are proud to have been selected to play the Friday night slot at this year’s Peterborough Beer Festival, August 25th, which is a major catch for any band outside of the city to get on. Saturday September 2nd will see them play at the Rippingale Beer Festival at 3.30pm, and Revolver will be the Saturday night band at “Brandon Rocks”, a massive event in the city of Durham, on Saturday September 16th. And finally, (so that we can be the first to mention Christmas 2017), the band will be performing in the town when the Christmas lights are switched on, (and everyone thinks to themselves, “Where did that year go, then?”)

Police Patrol
CCTV Surveillance by your Neighbours by Sergeant 600 Rachel Blackwell
A
subject that comes up very frequently for the Neighbourhood Policing Team is the thorny issue of CCTV, installed by neighbours. We often receive calls with concerns about whether the field of view of the cameras encroaches into the private lives of near neighbours. Is it legal? Installing cameras on your home is perfectly legal as long as it is for the purpose of preventing or detecting crime. You can’t stop a neighbour from installing a CCTV system or from operating any kind of video recording device, if they are using it to protect their property, or to identify or deter individuals engaging in anti-social behaviour. Requirements for the home owner: Anyone who installs a system should make every attempt to have the camera cover only areas within the boundaries of their property. If their cameras are covering areas beyond their boundaries, and are likely to capture other people going about their business, the images will become subject to the Data Protection Act. This just means that there is a requirement to register with the Information Commissioner’s Office. The neighbour who installs CCTV should also act with transparency, which means notifying neighbours about the system or putting up a notice that informs people that recording is taking place. A responsible neighbour would be open to other concerned neighbours seeing the scope of the field of view of a camera for peace of mind. Recordings should not be kept for any longer than is necessary to protect your property, but should be deleted regularly. What do you do if your neighbour is pointing their CCTV at you? Without hard evidence that your neighbour is training his / her cameras on your property for the purpose of monitoring and recording your private family life, it is difficult to make out a claim of harassment, which is what
many callers hope for when they call the police. If the CCTV captures a person doing something really private, for example, using a bathroom, there may be an offence of voyeurism. However, simply “watching” someone is not likely to breach harassment laws. The Information Commissioner’s Office website has more detailed advice: https://ico.org.uk/for-the-public/cctv To report a crime, call 101 or 999 if in progress. Crimestoppers 0800 555 111

Win the Chance to Become an Advanced Driver

P
atrick Hunt is Managing Director of Go Go Go Intensive and a member of The Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM). Go Go Go Intensive is the only Intensive Driving School in the UK to be affiliated to the IAM, the UK’s leading road safety charity.
Do you want to join a driving elite and be one of the most skilled drivers on Britain’s roads? In the sixty years since The Institute of Advanced Motorists, (IAM), was founded, half a million people have qualified as advanced drivers on their flagship Advanced Driver course – the only one accredited by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency, (DVSA). With a commitment of three to six months to complete the comprehensive course and some practice, you could add your name to the list, and enhance your driving skills. In my last column, I was pleased to announce that the IAM the U.K.’s leading road safety charity, has kindly agreed to donate a competition prize, worth £149.00. The prize is an IAM Roadsmart Advanced Driver course which is based on “Roadcraft”, The Police Driver’s Handbook and systematic approach to driving. The lucky winner will be allocated a qualified IAM observer in their local area. The prize will include unlimited tuition, until the required standard has been reached to pass the Advanced Driving Test, and includes the Advanced test fee.
The competition is open to anybody with a full driving licence. THE COMPETITION All you have to do to secure this valuable opportunity for yourself is to write a summary of between 200 and 250 words on “Why I would like to become an Advanced Driver”. Then, e-mail your reasons, (in the form of a series of paragraphs), to editor.bourne@discoveringmagazines. co.uk. Please add your details, including your age, address and a contact telephone number. All entries must be received by Friday September 22nd, 2017. The winning entry will then appear in a future issue of “Discovering Bourne”. Good luck with the competition and keep safe on the roads!
