Introduction
Welcome to Your December Issue. A very warm welcome to this, our last issue of 2019. December is a time for both reflection on what’s gone and anticipation for what’s around the corner of the new year. We can think about what we’ve achieved; those places we’ve visited and new people who may have come into our lives; others who we’ll see no more, but whose memory will remain strong. I prefer to look forward, though, and those new year resolutions are already in the planning stage! In the meantime, on behalf of all of the team here, my sincere thanks go out to everyone who has helped us in any way this year, especially our advertisers and contributors, with their regular features, wonderful advice and suggestions. All the very best to you all for Christmas and for 2020 – good luck, but most importantly, good health!
Claire x
Into the final month of the year and a General Election to add even more clarity and certainty to the whole Brexit saga – but now’s not the time to dwell on fiction! The big news instead is that one of our sister magazines, “Discovering Bourne”, has reached the “BIG 100” with this month’s issue, so our quiz for December has a “Centuries” theme, whilst many of the offerings from our contributors and advertisers have more than a taste of a forthcoming, fabulous Christmas ahead. There’s also our Novelty Christmas Treasure Hunt, along the streets of the Deepings, with a £50 prize awaiting the winner. And so, as 2019 disappears over the horizon, I’ll share a couple of crackers from this year’s Edinburgh Fringe: I was buying a dishwasher online, so I searched by price, lowest to highest – the top result was a sponge. (Darius Davies). Did you hear about the flea that went to the moon? Lunatic! (Felix & the Scootermen). Enjoy the read, and all the very best for Christmas and the new decade ahead.

Deepings
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce 2 tsp chopped fresh thyme 2 tbsp clear honey
Method • Preheat your oven to Gas Mark 4, 180ºC, Fan 160ºC. Cut each piece of bacon horizontally in half so that you end up with 16 long, thin bacon strips. • In a mixing bowl, toss the chipolata sausages with the Worcestershire sauce, chopped thyme and honey. Mix well to make sure they are coated evenly. Take each sausage and roll up in a piece of bacon. • Arrange the pigs in blankets on a baking sheet, ensuring they are well spaced out, and roast them for about 35 minutes or until dark golden. de ce m be r 2 0 1 9

Holly Swims New Deepings Club Record at Midland Short Course Championships Five Deepings Swimming Club swimmers qualified for the Swim England Midland Short Course Championships, held in Nottingham in early November. Bethany Eagle-Brown, Holly Leggott, Louis Metselaar, Tom Adams and Jake Jungmann competed in twenty-six events, swam eight short course personal bests, reached three finals and broke one club record! Podium places were at a premium against the best swimmers of all ages in the Midlands region, but seventeen-year-old Louis swam a new personal best in the 100IM heats to reach the B final, then went even quicker to finish a highly respectable third in the final. Louis also made the B final in the 50m breaststroke,

touching in eighth, and placed inside the top twenty-five in the 100m breaststroke (20th) and 50m butterfly (22nd), swimming another personal best. An excellent swim in the 50m butterfly heats saw sixteen-year-old Bethany qualify for the B final where she sprinted to a new short course personal best to finish fourth. Bethany also achieved a lifetime best in the 50m backstroke and 50m freestyle. Teammate Holly Leggott, also sixteen, broke the Deepings club record for the 16yrs 50m backstroke, to finish 33rd overall. She also came 33rd in the 100m backstroke, but saved her best result for her final race, coming 30th in the 50m freestyle out of eightythree competitors. Seventeen-year-old Tom Adams set a pair of shortcourse PBs, with excellent swims in the 100m butterfly and 50m breaststroke. His best result came in the 100IM, finishing 21st. Completing the weekend racing was Jake Jungmann. A strong swim in the 100IM saw the sixteen-year-old finish 44th overall. Lynn Chapman, Deepings Swimming Club Head Coach, said, “This was a tough competition against outstanding swimmers, but our squad put together some strong performances to prove they belong at this elite level. They showed excellent attitude and were rewarded with a number of decent personal bests.”

Top Survival Tips for a Healthy, Stress-Free Christmas by Claire Saunders, Renu - Health, Beauty & Fitness
T
he lead-up to Christmas is a time to eat, drink and be merry! But how many of us will spend it stressed about the festivities and end it worrying about an increased waistline in January? Here are a few tips to help you out: 1. PARTIES Never go to a party hungry – eat a high protein, low fat snack before you go such as hummus and raw vegetables, or chicken and salad. Visit the buffet table once, fill your plate … and NEVER return! Resist friends’ and relatives’ pleas to eat heartily, and avoid standing close to the food table where you just might be tempted to “pick”. 2. ALCOHOL Alternate between an alcoholic drink and a glass of water, or simply dilute wine with soda or sparkling water
to make a refreshing and socially acceptable spritzer! 3. FOOD SHOPPING You are not preparing for a siege! The shops are closed for barely one day. Don’t overbuy food – just buy what you really need. Christmas wouldn’t be the same without the traditional “Christmas Fayre”. Eat the same foods, but less of all of them. Treat yourself to smoked salmon, unsalted cashew nuts, almonds and walnuts, instead of chocolates and pastries! 4. GIFT SHOPPING Gift vouchers are a perfect solution for Christmas gifts. They can be bought at the last minute if necessary, need little wrapping, and are easy to post. Expiry dates will take them well into the new year, so your friends and relatives will be remembering your kindness long after the decorations have come down!
5. TEMPTATION Avoid leaving bowls of chocolates, crisps and nuts lying around the house, and make a special effort not to sit next to them when you go visiting! 6. STRESS RELIEF Go for a stroll with the family after dinner. Sitting down, watching the television or DVDs, and playing board games lends itself to further nibbling. 7. EXERCISE Attend your regular exercise class if it’s available. Alternatively, go for a swim or a cycle ride. The rest of the family will just have to cope without you for a little while, and you’ll have certainly earned the break! Finally, remember, it’s not what you eat between Christmas and New Year that does the damage – it’s what you eat between New Year and Christmas that really counts!

Health
A Present for the Future. A Gift of Fitness this Christmas. A gift of fitness? A cliché, right? A sales pitch? Well to some extent yes. But there genuinely is no more important thing. In the echelons of priority, health takes the number one spot. It is the foundation of all things. That is hard to deny. Now is the moment that I should talk about the cost and value of gym membership. But no, not yet at least. The concept of being ‘fit and healthy’ is far too broad and complex to be anchored only in joining your local gym. And you’re right, in principle, in its purest form, I would describe exercise as the movement of your body and the working of your heart and lungs in order to strengthen and maintain musculoskeletal and cardiovascular wellbeing, and there are a million and one ways to move without going to a ‘place’, a gym, to be fit. Right? But if it were that simple, wouldn’t everyone be happily and healthily gliding through their lives, self-motivated, with ample knowledge, and a plan, and with no concern for whether what they do is enough? There are indeed ways to avoid a ‘need’ for gym membership. I’ll give some basic examples:
• Run to work and back every day. • Walk to work and back every day. • Exercise at home using bodyweight-based exercise. • Purchase equipment to help advance your training at home. • Convert a room in your house and dedicate it to exercise. • Use the internet to educate yourself about ways to exercise. • Use motivational quotes and internet gurus to ensure you remain motivated. If this works for you, great! I mean it too, even if the last bullet point is a little tongue in cheek. If you are motivated, independent, driven and informed and have discipline
D I S C O V E R I N G
But let’s now step into the real world. Let’s acknowledge that while almost all barriers can be overcome, there are some real-life stumbling blocks that prevent people (including me) from being the perfect example of blissful self-motivated healthiness. So, what might these barriers be, I hear you ask? Let’s address just five I can think of; Number 1 – Lack of Motivation Are you always motivated? I can answer that for you. Probably not. Indeed, is there any greater barrier to achieving anything in life than a lack of motivation? Once we are motivated to do something, the ‘doing’ becomes easier. Once we have reason, purpose, direction and a will to ‘do’ we are 90% there.
• Bike to work and back every day.
18
enough to exercise using one of the ways listed or indeed any other way, without using a gym, then I applaud you. The world would be a healthier place if we all were able to live this way.
T H E
Deepings
So, on a cold winter’s morning, when everyone else is asleep, you have only your self-motivation to make you get up, get dressed, trainers on and out the door to follow your fitness goals; to tread the paths with only your own mind and the open air for company. As I write this, I think it’s quite a romantic and powerful thought. Images of self-determined and unstoppable solitude conjure nothing but respect in my mind. As an ’80s kid, Rocky Balboa comes to mind. But again, it’s too tempting to cut the run, bike or walk in half, or indeed not to leave the house in the first place. Number 2 – Distraction If you exercise at home for example, your phone may ring, your favourite TV programme may come on, you may see some of the jobs you meant to do last week staring you in

Health things we do, but to take-action without knowledge and suitable surroundings increases that risk. There will also be a point at which, even when things are going well, you want to push the boundaries. Can you do so safely, considering the things we’ve discussed thus far?
the face. Your family will want to talk to you or might need a quick favour. Someone may knock on the door. Distraction is everywhere. And in any case, you are not in a place that is dedicated to and designed to be conducive to lung busting sweaty exercise. It’ll most probably be a little too hot or there’ll be ‘things’ in the way in terms of the physical environment.
So, there we have briefly discussed five potential barriers to exercise, that are alleviated by investing in yourself or a family member, friend or loved one, by joining a gym, and more specifically, your local gym, Empire Gym.
Number 3 – Lack of Accountability We are all accountable to ourselves ultimately. That’s a cold truth. But we forgive ourselves and create scenarios to justify our reasons for not doing. I of course include myself in that postulation. However disciplined we are as individuals, this is true to a varying extent for most people at some point.
By getting a membership you are helping to ensure the following: There is safety: We are educated and knowledgeable about every piece of equipment in our gym and equipment is maintained and repaired as required.
Number 4 – Need for knowledge We’ve all been there. You have an epiphany. You have a big idea. A vision. You have the mindset and the motivation and drive to follow a dream… all you need now is the how! Now… how do I get the how?
We are all qualified to ‘Level 3 Personal Trainer’ industry standard and fully insured. We are all first-aid-qualified.
In a fitness context you may have a specific reason for wanting to exercise. You may want to change your body composition, either by losing weight or gaining muscle. You may want to improve your cardiovascular fitness so you can run around with your children or grandchildren. You may have an illness or condition that would benefit from a type or style of exercise. It may indeed improve your quality of life. All these things are very valid and important reasons to begin to exercise. They speak to the very essence and meaning of life itself. Self-esteem, family and health. But you want to do so to best effect. You want to work hard in a way that gets you the maximum benefit for the effort expended in doing the ‘work’. You need some advice. You need some feedback. You need some guidance and indeed you need some reassurance that you are taking the correct path. If you are expert in exercise you don’t need your local gym for advice. If you are a doctor and/or you have experience of overcoming a health issue that causes concern, you don’t need the experienced sounding board and network of a local gym. If you have the time to source and read reliable, corroborated, expert texts that can educate you on the way to achieve your goals, you don’t need your local gym. Do you have the how? 5 – Fear of doing things unsafely Of course, people can make reasonable and educated judgements in terms of what is safe and not safe when it comes to simple exercise. Indeed, there is risk in any and all
d e c em b er 2019
We are all defibrillator-qualified and there is a defibrillator in the gym! Heating and cooling in the gym is regulated. We have taken first-hand advice from local authorities to be proficient in cardiac rehab procedures for those who have experienced or who are experiencing heart health problems. In any circumstances where people have ailment or injury, we ask for doctors’ advice and keep any details of medication being taken on our system as a record in case emergency medical treatment is required. In addition, there is safety in not training alone and there is always a trained member of staff on site as well as lots of likeminded members who all keep an eye out for each other. There is Knowledge: As already alluded to, our trained, professional, experienced and knowledgeable staff will guide you, talk to you, listen to your questions, can write you programmes or even give you personal training sessions. On joining, everyone is offered a free induction to ensure you have an educated and productive way to start. Your fellow members too, will talk and share ideas and thoughts around exercise as you become more immersed in the Empire ‘community’ There will be added accountability: And it’s not all about being accountable to another person.

Sometimes, if you consciously decide to either walk, bike, run or drive to the gym, you are accountable to the initial decision made. You have ‘come this far’ and it would therefore be ridiculous not to carry out the intended act of exercising for forty-five minutes or an hour. To take the next logical step, you may have planned to meet someone at the gym. You are now accountable to them also, whether this is meeting someone to exercise together in the gym itself or to be part of a class, where you are accountable to the group and those people on the waiting list whose place you have taken. Indeed, this is where ‘paying’ to go somewhere to exercise goes in your favour. You are also accountable to the motivated person you are, and were when you made the initial decision to join the gym. You were then in the ‘correct’ and ‘motivated’ frame of mind, and you don’t want to let that part of you down either! There is massively reduced distraction: When you are at the gym, you are in a place designed and dedicated to fitness and exercise. You have travelled here for the purpose of exercising and everything is here to make that as easy, efficient and effective as possible. High quality, professional, varied commercial gym equipment means that as soon as you make the decision to perform an exercise in this environment, the means are available to do so. There is no time lag between decision making and doing. Conversation here is much more likely to be about exercise. You are less likely to be distracted by tangential conversation or indeed any other thing that could distract from your allotted exercise time. It is a purposefully motivational atmosphere: For a start, as a family-run gym, Empire has a unique welcoming feel. We get to know people and take a real interest in them. We believe in the power, value and benefit of fitness for all people. Indeed, the people who train here when you look around offer motivation in the way they are each personally overcoming their challenges. People from all avenues of life. If you come to a point of plateau or you need something to stoke the fires of motivation once again, you can turn and get advice immediately from a qualified person.
If you are in a class, the professionalism of the instructor gives you confidence and a framework to work within. You are given every opportunity to succeed. You are encouraged to be yourself, but you don’t stand alone! So this is where I say to you… if you are looking for a gift for someone, or indeed you want to invest in yourself, why not invest in motivation, knowledge, professionalism, safety and accountability and change your or someone else’s life by getting an Empire Gym membership. On top of all the things spoken of, there are eighty fitness classes a month FREE with any membership. You can buy gift cards too as a slick, impressive and presentable gift to the value of any membership you want to buy. Simply call us on 01778 344579 to discuss or pop-in to reception. You can purchase them over the counter. Monthly membership prices have recently been reduced by over 20% and are given here. And please note, the lower age threshold has been reduced from sixteen to fourteen as we focus more and more on giving young people the opportunity to be in a responsible and professional fitness environment, allowing them to use their free time productively, constructively and positively. All instructors go through an enhanced DBS check and all people under eighteen must complete a full health commitment questionnaire that is agreed and signed off by parents/ guardians before they can use the gym and take part in any classes. • 14-19 Membership - £29.99. • Concessionary Membership - £34.99. • Standard Membership - £39.99. • Joint Membership (two people residing at the same address) - £71.50. (Concessions are for those over sixty, Armed Forces and Armed Forces Veterans, NHS, Police and Fire service, Sue Ryder employees, Caterpillar/Perkins Employees) Here’s wishing you a very happy, healthy Christmas.
The place itself is awash with colour and vibrancy, and the music is loud and upbeat.

Three Olympic world records and over one hundred Paralympic world records were set at the venue, which also boasts the longest cantilevered roof in the world with a great story to tell! • Silverstone isn’t just about one weekend of Formula 1 each year; this iconic site is the home of British Motorsport and a must visit – whether you’ve got a need for speed or not! Their new immersive attraction gives you access to a 360-degree cinematic experience, a replica pit wall, the chance to try your hand at commentating, practise your skills as an RAF pilot, the opportunity to get up close to winning machines and to even climb inside a replica Grand Prix car! • The Harry Potter film creators didn’t miss a movie-making trick; their phenomenal attention to

detail that brought the books to the big screen is waiting to be explored, as you go behind the scenes of these iconic films! Step inside legendary sets including the Great Hall, Diagon Alley, the Forbidden Forest and Platform 9¾! Observe the intricate detail in every costume, learn how mystical creatures were brought to life and discover the endless magical props used in The Making of Harry Potter! • From the most famous wizard to the most famous Pharaoh! Tutankhamun will capture your imagination and give you an insight into the wondrous life of the ancient Egyptians. Over one hundred and fifty original objects are on display in London for a strictly limited period, and for the last time outside of Egypt! With their glints of gold and immaculate appearance, it’s almost impossible to believe they are over three thousand years old! How to Make that Christmas Dinner Table Sparkle Pinterest is awash with ideas of how to “D.I.Y.” your way to a beautiful festive centrepiece or unique place setting, some of which may seem daunting and timeconsuming, but with a few tips, table dressing can become a relaxing experience that won’t cost you a fortune either. We have handpicked a few of those ideas to help your much-loved family recipes stand out at the dinner table this year.
bowl, tying the hand-written nametag through the loop with a themed ribbon. A well-thought-out place setting will spark conversation and distract away from any food burning incidents that may occur in the kitchen!
Many of our most cherished memories are made around the dinner table, sharing a meal with loved ones, and as such it should be a place where time with your family can be enjoyed in comfort. Instead of trying to recreate something you have seen on the pages of a glossy magazine, or in an M&S food advert, think about how you can bring elements of your own personality and style to the arrangement.
Floral arrangements add height and texture to a table of any size and look particularly dramatic when filled with stems that drape down onto the table runner. If you are feeling rather creative, you may consider re-purposing abandoned twigs from the garden and spray-painting them with glitter or metallic foil. If you have time to spare, you can even try writing your guests’ names in vibrant gold ink onto large leaves foraged from the garden.
Baubles are not just for the tree when it comes to festive decoration; they can add a little glitter to the table when strewn artistically amidst the flowers and candleholders. To add a personal touch to your place setting, allocate a colourful bauble to each guest and place it in his or her
If your kitchen cupboards are full of mismatched family heirlooms, incorporate this into the theme of your table design. Maybe you are a fan of animal print, in which case you can layer zebra and leopard plates or pick up some animal themed napkins. If you find yourself in a hurry and are not a fan of folding napkins, knot them in the middle and lay them across the centre of the plates to add some texture. There is nothing wrong with crisp white table linen, but if you are feeling a little more daring, why not go with a darker colour scheme to add some drama. Rich colours are the perfect backdrop and will make any meal you put down look glorious. Even better, they hide those spills and stains that are inevitable at Christmas time! The festive season can be a stressful experience if you are bravely planning to host your family and friends, so be sure to have fun with the decoration; don’t take it too seriously, and whatever you do, make sure there is enough room left on the table for the wine!

Will & Probate Services
Professional Standards Board Appointment for M.D. by Nick Ash, Managing Director
We are delighted to report that Nick Ash, our Managing Director, has been appointed to head up the Complaints and Disciplinary team for the Professional Standards Board of the Society of Will Writers. From January 2020, Nick will be responsible for dealing with any consumer complaints lodged against any one of the two thousand plus members of the Society. The Society of Will Writers is the largest representative body for Estate Planning firms in the UK, and as such it bears much of the responsibility for ensuring professionalism and compliance across the industry. Speaking about his new role, Nick said, “Professionalism and doing the right thing for our clients has always been central to the Will & Probate ethos. However, I do know that there are quite a few firms out there where clients’ interests are not well served. This new role with the Professional Standards Board hands me an opportunity to become a champion for the rights of consumers.” The Society of Will Writers requires all of its members to abide by a stringent code of conduct and, whilst the industry is not formally regulated, members of the public are encouraged to use Will Writers and Estate Planning firms that are members of the organisation. If they do, they
can be confident that they are getting a reliable service. Solicitors have the Solicitors Regulation Authority; we have our Professional Standards Board and it is an honour to have been invited to head up the new team,” Nick confirmed. Your Finances
“I’m Really Not Sure About Pensions!” - by Matthew Biggs - Liberty Partnership Ltd
Sound familiar? When you left school and started working, you probably had no idea what a pension was, how it worked and how it could benefit you; well rest assured … you were not alone! Pensions can be an effective way of managing your finances from a young age, all the way up until you intend to retire, from age fiftyfive onwards. “How?” I hear you ask. Well, truth be told, there are many ways in which a pension, and more specifically pension contributions, can benefit you and potentially others. For example, if you have young children, but are unable to claim full child benefit as someone in your household earns above £50,000 per year, then a pension contribution could help.
50
D I S C O V E R I N G
Are you lucky enough to earn over £100,000 per year? Well, if so, you will be paying higher rates of tax at 40% or 45% and you will have lost some or all of your tax-free personal allowance! Again, a pension contribution can help. Are you a business owner and would like to look at tax-efficient ways of extracting money from your business? Once again a pension contribution can help! Now let’s talk about Tax Relief. Simply put, tax relief is where the government “tops

up” a personal pension contribution by 20% but, if you are a 40% or 45% taxpayer, you can claim an additional 20% or 25% tax relief. This could also be the case for your workplace pension so, if you pay tax above 20%, then you may be able to claim additional tax relief. So, whether you’re just starting out or are soon looking to retire, a pension can provide great planning opportunities; it’s not that complicated, as we can help simplify your planning and help you with all the paperwork. Stay Merry, not Miserable in the Run-Up to Christmas ‘TIS the season to be jolly – but as we prepare for the season of goodwill, not everyone shares the Christmas spirit. With many of us starting the Christmas shopping earlier, there is a fair chance that many of our shop purchases and online orders are beginning to pile up. So, with gifts galore adding to the decorations, tree, food and drink, December is a time when many of us let our guard down, amongst the excitement leading up to the big day. For opportunist thieves, visible presents under the tree, open car boots full of shopping while loads are being taken into the house, and even the possibility of an unlocked garage are rich pickings which can turn your Christmas from being ‘Merry’ into ‘Miserable’! Equally, flaws in home security while out and about visiting friends and family are a beacon to thieves – so always remember to check your alarm and never leave doors, windows or garages unlocked. Some tips for a safe and happy festive season: • Don’t leave presents in full view – either in the home or on the back seat of the car. • Shorter days mean a longer time for thieves to be in operation – always lock your car and front door when entering your home. • Keep a light on indoors and outdoors if you are out visiting friends or family. • It may be an idea to fit some motion detector security lighting – it won’t just be carol singers who come calling. • Keep your personal data safe – and securely dispose of receipts. • If you are expecting parcels or deliveries whilst you are away from home, try and arrange for them to be delivered to an alternative address instead of them being hidden by the bins! • If buying bikes and / or electronic equipment for Christmas – mark them with your postcode • If using outdoor festive lighting, ensure cables aren’t passed through windows, leaving enough of a gap for burglars to make use of. • Away over Christmas? – plan ahead. If you’re going away at Christmas, be sure to cancel any newspaper or milk subscriptions. Arrange for a neighbour to park on the driveway to help create the impression someone is home. Do not to leave descriptive telephone answering machine messages like “we’re away skiing for the Christmas holidays”, or post your plans on social media. For any home security improvements, we have locksmiths, alarm and CCTV installers, electricians and many other traders who can help. Visit www.safelocaltrades.com or call free on 0800 014 1832.

Deeping Men’s Group Aids Community People in the Deepings may know that, if they need medical or mobility aids on temporary loan, they will be able to get such items free of charge from the Deeping Men’s Group. What they may not know is that a small group of dedicated volunteers has been providing this valuable service for over sixty years. It was in 1954 that the vicars of Market Deeping and Deeping St. James got together to form a social group for men. The group began raising funds to buy and lend out wheelchairs for those who needed them, as there was no such service available in the area. They continued in this way for many years but, as their fundraising and activities grew, it was decided to apply for official charity status in 1996, achieving this in December 1997. Their service is available to anyone registered with Deeping and Glinton Health Centres, who provide most of their referrals. They not only lend wheelchairs of all sorts for young and old, but also electric scooters, recliner chairs, bath lifts, walking frames and commodes, as well as many other aids. Whilst there is a nominal time limit to the loans, no one is chased up for the return of equipment and, if there is still a need, the loan continues without any problems. They average about sixty clients a month, and the demand is on the increase. Over the years, Deeping Men’s Group has been recognised for the valuable work they do for the community by many awards, the most prestigious being the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Award for voluntary service in 2006. A piece of commemorative crystal and certificate were
presented to the group by the, then, Lord Lieutenant of Lincolnshire, and two of the leading members were invited to a garden party at Buckingham Palace with their wives. The group hold regular fundraising events and are supported by local charities and businesses for whom they are very grateful. This allows them to help other related organisations as well as special cases, the “Age UK” minibus for example. Many clients make donations, and being registered for Gift Aid, these attract a further 25%. The social side is still very important, there being a total membership of over eighty, many of whom meet up once a month for activities including a speaker, raffle and bar. As with many voluntary groups, most of the work is done by a small number of people, some of whom are feeling their advancing years, and who are now hoping for more support being offered by younger members of the community. To make contact, phone 07902 510471 to make an appointment with a Charity Officer, who will issue and give relevant instructions on any equipment’s use.
Dinosaurs from the Natural History Museum are Heading to Peterborough Cathedral for Summer 2020 – You Could Help! Peterborough Cathedral has announced that it is to display the Natural History Museum’s touring exhibition, “T. rex: The Killer Question”, during the summer of 2020. The display will be installed at the east end of the Cathedral and is made up of fourteen dinosaurs, nine of which are animatronic models. Amongst the collection is a moving, three-quarter size T. rex, as well as a life-size T. rex skeleton and a twelve-metre-long static model of the creature. Models of other dinosaurs, such as Saurornitholestes, Ankylosaurus, Deinonychus and Edmontosaurus, will also be shown alongside T. rex for comparison, so that visitors can consider the ‘killer question’: “Was T. rex a ferocious hunter or a mere scavenger?” 58

Rabbits may be forgotten in the chaos of Christmas when they are left outside in hutches, so make sure it is someone’s job in the household that they get their daily checks and attention they need.
Good grief, it’s nearly Christmas! So, here are some good Christmas present ideas for pet owners. Fortunately, our pets are very simple in their needs – food, sleep, exercise, and socialisation.
Good quality pet food fed in moderation is ideal for pets.
