Wills & Probate – Protect, secure, prepare … and enjoy

Protect, Secure and Prepare - But Above All. . . Enjoy!

ADVICE FROM NICK ASH, MANAGING DIRECTOR AT WILL AND PROBATE SERVICES

There is nobody alive today who has lived

through anything like the times that we are experiencing now. Covid-19 and the subsequent lockdown have turned everyone’s life upside down.

Hopefully, the initial shock has passed for most people and you are getting used to the new normal, whatever that looks like for you. It is different for everyone. For me it is still being at work, either from my dining room or from my office, an office that used to be buzzing with nine people in a fairly small space, but one that now seems cavernous since there is only me! So, what should we do in this most unusual of times? 1 Protect – Most people have already gone into protection mode; they have secured their assets, analysed their income, cut out the non-essentials and simplified and streamlined their lives. You will know what is most important to you; most likely it is family and friends. You will realise what you are missing the most and what you are not missing at all. 2 Secure – Now we have our new “normal”, what are we doing to secure it? Have you ensured that the core aspects of your life are built on a solid foundation, or have you identified that there is a little work to do to stabilise your core? Whether it is our health, our mindset, our finances or our planning, each of us has an opportunity in this pause to take stock and stabilise the core aspects of our own lives. 3 Prepare – What’s the world going to look like when this is all over? Are you going to go back to the person you were before? Now is the time to plan, to learn and to broaden your horizons. If you are facing adversity now, then make a plan to get out of the situation, get advice and accept help. There seems to be more goodwill in the world now than there has been for years, so make the most of it. If your life is great right now, plan to ensure it stays that way; maybe you could help those who are not so fortunate. Whatever your situation, be ready for when the world is released. Don’t think it will happen overnight, because it won’t, so make sure that your new plan can accelerate alongside the rest of the world. 4 Above all … enjoy! – There will be many more people, sadly, who are suffering bereavement, and many more who are facing hardship. But the fact is … the world still turns. Celebrate the lives of the loved ones we have lost. Use your furlough to fulfil your ambitions. At the very least, enjoy the sunshine, nature and the simpler things in life that are there in abundance – we were just all too busy, too preoccupied, to notice them before. Stay safe, stay healthy and, if there is anything we can do to help, then please give us a call.
