Saskatoon: The city of Bridges located on the South Saskatchewan River
Saskatoon is stunning in the summer. It’s the perfect place to explore outside along the riverbank and throughout the city’s hundreds of parks and lush green spaces. During spring, stop to spot crocuses along the paved path near the University of Saskatchewan. The train bridge is a local favourite for viewpoints of downtown Saskatoon at sunset. Bikes can be borrowed for free when staying at one of eight hotels in the downtown core.
Paddling the River
On a scorching hot summer day, it’s not unusual to find Saskatonians flocking to the water for a canoe, kayak, or paddleboard down the South Saskatchewan River. Launching from the Poplar Bluffs Conservation Area along Valley Road, it’s a scenic 2-3 hour trip. The Fred Heal Canoe Launch further south is a five-hour paddle back to the city. Paddleboard rentals and guided tours can be arranged at Escape Sports, while canoe and kayak rentals can be picked up at Eb’s Source for Adventure.
