Tattoo Removal With body art surging in popularity over the past several years, people have been quick to hop on the tatt train. What was once the domain of the alt crowd has now gone mainstream. CEOs, baristas, soccer moms… It seems like everyone’s been getting ink done. Whether you’ve got a tramp stamp, a tribal, or a teardrop, that tattoo gave you instant street cred (especially handy for those frozen yogurt runs in the family minivan). But for many human canvasses, the feel-good bachelor party buzz of the tattoo fades away along with the hangover. The tattoo, however, stayed with you. This feeling is not unlike buying your kid a baby chick at Easter – a fun, cute idea at first…until you realize that you now own a chicken. If you’re feeling like that chicken needs to go, you have options. The method featured in the biker show Sons of Anarchy is thankfully not available at The Manor. Instead, we offer laser tattoo removal. It’s non-invasive, (and involves neither fire nor knives), very effective, and has minimal downtime. Here’s the scoop on what to expect when getting tattoos removed.
Will it work? There are a number of factors that determine the success rate of tattoo removal. The first is ink color. Typically green, blue, and black inks are easier to remove, while red, orange, yellow, and white inks are more difficult (that shamrock will be less challenging than that ring of fire). Skin color is also a factor, as the procedures are more effective for individuals with lighter skin. The location of the tattoo plays a part in the overall success, too. Ink on your hands, feet, and lower legs are tougher to eliminate. If you’re a non-smoker, not only do you catch a break on health insurance premiums, but you may have an easier time getting your tattoo removed. It has been found that people who smoked regularly had a 70% lower success rate of tattoo removal after 10 sessions compared to non-smokers. Good news for ex-cons… your average jailhouse tattoo is much easier to remove than those slick, professional jobs you get down at the strip mall.
T H E M A N O R A Z .CO M
How long will it take? Laser tattoo removal happens over the course of several sessions. The number of sessions is determined by the size and intricacy of the artwork. Got a single teardrop? Expect a half-dozen sessions to rediscover the kinder, gentler you. Is your back covered with a fierce, 4-color, fire-breathing dragon? That may take a few more sessions. Suppose you get your old lady’s name tattooed onto your arm but then the relationship goes south. So you cover the tatt with your new woman’s name. But then that relationship goes bad, too. Now you have a layered tattoo. These are difficult to remove and require significantly more treatments than singular tattoos. Full removal can be very difficult. You’ll want to mentally prepare yourself for multiple visits to go with those multiple alimonies.
What’s the cost? The cost of laser tattoo removal varies depending on the size of the tattoo, and can range anywhere from $49-$300 per session. 6-12 sessions are typically required.
Will it hurt? No worse than when you got the tattoo in the first place. Beauty is pain, bro.
Is it worth it? That’s a question only you (and your prospective future employer) can answer. You got your ink done for a reason – now you need to decide how important that reason still is to you. m

Clothes That Make the BESPOKE SUITS Every few years men go through a fashion renaissance resulting in a legacy of style that defines an era. The 80’s kicked things off with the movie American Gigolo, launching a longlasting obsession with Armani suits. Five years later it was pastel t-shirts beneath linen jackets, giving us the Miami Vice look. Fast-forward past the grunge of the 90’s (ugh) and we come upon the turn-of-the-century and the birth of the metrosexual. This new millennium style was all about super-luxe fabrics and guys calling each other out over the amount of break in one’s pant legs. As the battle raged on between casual Fridays and dressing to impress, NBA Commissioner David Stern dropped a couture bomb that turned the fashion world on its head: A mandatory dress code that called for conservative business attire. No longer would pro basketball players exit the team bus in FUBU shirts, baggy jeans, and sideways baseball caps. Out went the Timberland boots and oversized medallions. In came 100% worsted wool and crisp, button-down dress shirts. While initially met with resistance, this non-negotiable change of attire created an immediate need for bespoke suits. Part of the reason was the newly born sport of competitive fashion. Millionaire athletes looking to one-up each other for the unofficial title of MSP (Most Stylish Player). The need for players to continue expressing their individuality helped fuel the desire for custom suits. Players now peacock their way through press conferences in a nightly competition for fashion supremacy. And since department stores don’t usually carry chalk striped grey flannel three-piece suits in a 58-long, the re-birth of the custom suit was ignited. But what about the rest of us?

man While we could previously emulate our hoops heroes by dropping a few bucks on a replica jersey, keeping up with the LeBrons is now considerably more difficult for anyone not in the 39% tax bracket. But this is about more than fan worship. Even non-fans are discovering that a good custom suit can be a life-changing experience. So…what options are there? First, it’s important to clarify the terminology. The three basic offerings are off-the-rack, made to measure, and bespoke. Knowing the difference is important, especially if you’re on a budget. Off-the-rack refers to any suit you buy that requires minimal alterations. Whether it’s Wal Mart, Nordstrom, or the Men’s Wearhouse, you’re getting a suit that’s off-the-rack. You can pay anywhere from $100 to several thousand dollars, depending on the label. And this is where one must decide if it’s better to drop 2-large on a well-known label…or if you’re better off spending that money on a perfectly fitting custom job. Made-to-Measure is the next step up in the world of fashion. These suits start with a pre-existing pattern customized to your personal measurements. The end result is a suit that’s not quite oneof-a-kind, but definitely looks, feels, and fits perfectly. Bespoke is at the high-end of the price range, and is as good as it gets. The experience of being fitted is as amazing as the final product. Completely original, usually handmade, totally customizable, and barring any bizarre fabric choices it’s the best-looking suit you’ll ever own. It’s how a true baller goes about his business. Once you’ve made the decision to forgo the rack and purchase a custom suit, you’ll need to decide between made-to-measure or bespoke. In the Continued on Page 5.
T H E M A N O R A Z .CO M
Bespoke Suits Continued U.K. these terms are interchangeable. Here in the U.S., however, distinct differences exist. Both involve a tailor and his (or her) trusty measuring tape. Both involve multiple fittings. Both will yield something much better fitting than anything purchased in a department store. But that’s where the similarities end. The bespoke suit experience is just that – an experience. You will be interviewed, measured, and fussed over like a millionaire. Proud bespoke tailors will remind you that a true bespoke suit is measured, cut, and stitched onsite – unlike made-to-measure clothing that is often outsourced for assembly. Bespoke suits give you greater freedom to create something unique. Six buttons? Red silk lining? Ipod pocket? It’s your world, brother. Since bespoke suits are truly “made from scratch,” the only limit to your options is your imagination (and your tailor’s tolerance). But even if you go the made-to-measure route you’ll be improving your style immensely. Don’t
think of made-to-measure as a downgrade from bespoke – think of it as an upgrade from buying off-the-rack. While New York, London, and Milan are widely known as the fashion capitals of their respective countries, you can find highly skilled bespoke tailors here in Arizona. A quick Web search will uncover a number of local choices for custom suits. One of the most commonly asked questions is “How much is a custom suit?” There is no simple answer – it’s like asking how much a car costs. But prices will generally start at $500-$1,000 and climb much higher depending on the quality and availability of fabric. With the proper care, a quality bespoke suit should last a lifetime. All things considered, it’s a fantastic investment. A word of caution before you enter the world of custom clothing… the experience is addicting. You’ll want all your clothes – shirts, shoes, ties – to be custom made. And once you ditch the rack, you’ll never go back. m

Laser Hair Removal:
A Permanent Solution to Unwanted Hair If you hadn’t noticed by now, body hair grows everywhere! The funny part is both women and men go to great lengths to try and stop those pesky hairs from showing. Whether it’s the dreadful thought of scoring a date and squeezing your body into your little black dress, only to notice you forgot to shave your legs, or the discomfort of scratching a loved one’s face with your 5 o’clock shadow as you go in for a kiss, we all have our issues with body hair. The increased need for silky smooth skin 24 hours a day, seven days a week is exactly why the interest in laser hair removal is significantly growing worldwide!
The benefits of laser hair removal Join the “no razor, no problem” population as we introduce the benefits of laser hair removal! Permanent hair removal is now within reach as advancements in technology makes the process of getting rid of unwanted hair an easy possibility. Not only does The Manor offer hair removal, but we use Cynosure’s Elite laser system, the latest in laser technology. Unlike other hair removal lasers, our system allows for the selection of two wavelengths and a customized treatment for each client. Lighter skin tones require a different laser wavelength than darker skin tones. Aside from the opportunity to part ways with your razor forever, there are additional benefits to the laser hair removal procedure.
Further benefits of laser hair removal include: • Precise—the handheld laser targets dark, coarse hairs with precision, leaving the surrounding skin untouched and unharmed. • Fast—the highly concentrated light is quickly sent to the skin in just a fraction of a second and treats multiple hair follicles at one time. • Predictable—ressearch has proven this procedure effective, and an excellent tool for hair removal after the recommended number of sessions.

How Does Laser Hair Removal Work? ------------------------------------------------------
Before the Procedure
What should you do before a laser hair removal procedure? • Schedule a consultation. • Feel confident that laser hair removal is for you. If you decide you want in on this permanent solution for unwanted hair, the first step is to schedule a consultation. Speaking with a laser technician will answer any questions you may have about the hair removal procedure, although we wouldn’t be surprised if this article answers them all for you, too. The technician will also review your medical history, address any concerns, and discuss what is expected during and after the in-office treatment. The two of you will talk about the amount of time the procedure is estimated to take and discuss the number of treatments recommended to reach your treatment goal. Once you have an understanding of our laser hair removal service, the next step is to come in for your first laser treatment!
During the Procedure What can I expect during my procedure? • Trimming of the area • Customized Elite Laser system settings • A laser hair removal treatment using advanced technology • Application of cooling gel A first time for anything can be scary, but not if you know what to expect. When you come into The Manor for your first hair removal procedure, the laser technician will begin by trimming the area so that the hair ends just above the skin. After a short trimming of your hair, the technician will apply a small amount of cooling gel to your skin as a method of preparation before picking up the handheld laser. The technician will then adjust the settings of the wavelength produced by the
laser before application based on your hair color, thickness, location and skin tone. Once the correct settings are applied and the laser is activated, it’s time to zap those hair follicles so that they’re gone forever! The hair removal process begins as the laser sends pulses of a highly concentrated beam of light down to the root of your hair follicles, where the beginning of hair growth originates. The pigment in each hair follicle then absorbs the light sent from the laser, causing damage to the follicle and eventually stopping the cycle of hair growth. After the entire area is treated with the Elite laser system, this life-changing procedure ends with an application of cooling gel that helps reduce any feelings of discomfort.
After the Procedure What should I expect after the procedure? • Minor redness or swelling • Avoidance of sun exposure • Small amount of hair shedding Temporary redness or swelling is sometimes common after any hair removal procedure. To help reduce the feelings of minor discomfort, you can apply ice, aloe gel or over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medications. The sun can cause damage to your skin every day, but after a hair removal procedure your skin is more vulnerable than ever! It is important you avoid sun exposure as much as possible. This includes both natural sunlight for all you outdoor explorers and tanning beds for those of you who prefer to tan indoors. Unlike the usual solution to sun exposure, sunscreen can only be applied after the skin has fully healed, which can take four to six weeks. You might notice some hair shedding, but how else are you supposed to lose unwanted hair forever? Many people have mistaken this as a sign of new hair growth, but ease your mind because that’s not the case. Continued on Page 7.
T H E M A N O R A Z .CO M
L AS E R HA I R R E MOVA L Continued As with all laser hair removal procedures, multiple treatments may be required to experience permanent hair loss and provide final, natural looking results. Until then, hair growth is still possible but should appear finer and lighter in color. The returning hairs should be less noticeable and can successively be eliminated with additional treatments every four to six weeks.
Skin Irritation
Addressing Your Laser Hair Removal Concerns
Changes in Skin Pigment
There are a few concerns and potential side-effects that are frequently brought up during a patient’s initial consultation, so we wanted to address them here first. • Skin irritation • Changes in skin pigment • Shaving before the procedure
When we refer to the term skin irritation, we simply mean experiencing slight redness or swelling to the area. This side-effect typically disappears within a few hours post treatment and should only result in minor discomfort. If you have any questions about the severity of your irritated skin, call a technician immediately.
Don’t just choose any old spa to receive laser hair removal. With the incorrect settings and unfit laser wavelengths, technicians can damage the pigment found in the skin, causing the treated skin to temporarily appear lighter or darker in color.
Shaving Before Contrary to other hair removal methods, shaving the area is acceptable and
actually allows the technician to skip the hair trimming portion. Unlike waxing or plucking, shaving only cuts the hair. This preserves the hair follicle and allows the root of the hair to still be removed. Receive Silky Smooth Skin at Paradise Medspa! Just imagine never having to replace a razor or nick your skin ever again! Removing unwanted hair using Cynosure’s Elite laser system is now just as easy as, and more efficient than, at-home waxing kits or countless minutes of shaving! Use the time normally spent shaving to schedule a consultation at The Manor today by calling 480-636-8911-8144! Take advantage of our Smooth Savings Plan which includes complete hair removal or touch up in any body area starting at only $25 dollars a month! m

It’s that time of the year again! The sun is out and temperatures are rising. While most of us enjoy the sunshine, the heat can act as a catalyst for dehydration and exhaustion. During these scorching summer months it is especially important to stay hydrated because your body loses water through sweating, exercising and other activities. Some medications can cause excess fluid loss, and heat and sun stroke are much more likely to occur in a state of dehydration. You can prevent illnesses and improve your cellular health by simply drinking adequate amounts water. Did you know that consuming your body weight in water is optimal for cellular health? This should amount to one ounce of liquid per pound of weight, up to about 160 ounces. Eating water filled fruits and vegetables, such as watermelon and leafy greens, can be another strategy (a tasty one too!) to increase your hydration. Drinking plenty of water helps flush out toxins from the body, and without this fundamental fluid these toxins can build up and escape through skin pores. Thus, we see acne and other skin irritations such as eczema occur more often. H20 is also believed to contribute to skin plumpness, thus eliminating annoying conditions such as circles or bags around your eyes. Water composes 60% of our body-it’s one of our most basic and vital needs for our survival. So this summer, buy a fancy new water bottle to encourage yourself to drink more of this essential liquid, or perhaps switch out that next soda you pick up for an ice cold glass of H20. m
Summer Beard StyleWatch Much like facial hair itself, beard styles are constantly growing and changing. And while individual preferences can vary, we’re noticing a few trends in facial hair from the worlds of fashion and entertainment that will inevitably make their way to the everyday man. Here are a few styles that are “trending”:
Neat Stubble Now that the clean-cut world of Mad Men has come to an end, feel free to skip a day or two between shaves. Summer stubble is hot – but keep it trimmed. Somehow you managed to sneak that facial hair into the office. If you want to keep your boss’ blessing, go for a look that says “maintained” - not “neglected.”
Full Beard We’re noticing a decline in full-lumberjack beards. With the cold weather disappearing, the next several months call for a fresh look. Take a few selfies to remember your hard work, then go with something boldly different – a Van Dyke, Goatee, or an Anchor. It’s scary at first, but you might remember how Hall of Fame basketball coach Phil Jackson ditched his Big Bad

Wolf look and traded it in for a simple soul patch. He created a new look and younged himself up in the process.
Sideburns Wolverine is going away, folks. Those mutton chops were fun, but it’s time to lose the training wheels and let your beard & ‘stache stand on their own. Try going for tight, trimmed sideburns that frame a clean-shaven face - or blend into your stubble.
Neckbeards These were never good. Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck sported them throughout the entire football season and even admitted it’s a bad look. Listen to the millionaire quarterback – he knows. m
