Emily Fox has been the life-force of the Discovery Center for the last 18 years. While we are all saddened by her resignation, we are also excited for her to be able to move closer to family and start a new page in her life. Emily’s ability to expand our mission to bolster educational opportunities in our community has had an unbelievable impact on breaking the cycle of poverty. All of us wish her the best! Emily, along with countless staff, donors and community organizations, have done an incredible job of building a foundation for a Museum and educational programs that even larger Science Centers are envious of. And, unbelievably, most people don’t realize that DCS is a private, non-profit 501(c)(3), governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. Our operation is not owned or supported by the City, County, State or a University. DCS operates based on the generosity and financial support of people and businesses like you to carry out our mission. So, the big question, how can you help? First, support our Education Programs by making a NAP contribution. If you qualify, and a lot of businesses and individuals do, you can offset Missouri State Income Tax with a NAP contribution. Entering this final quarter of the year, many of you will be contemplating tax strategies and this is an incredible way to offset Missouri Income Tax. Please ask us for additional information! Second, make a donation to maintain our Operations. Maintaining a 50,000 sq.ft. building containing 11 exhibit galleries and over 200 permanent exhibits has an amazing impact on all of our visitors, but we need your help to maintain this operation to the highest standards. And lastly, sponsor an exhibit or other educational event. Discovery Center has several events, or contribute to the Emily Blaugrund Fox Scholarship Fund at Community Foundation of the Ozarks. I know you have a choice when it comes to where you spend your charitable dollars. Please consider the impact you can have on a child who really needs a chance. I firmly believe that education is the best way to break the cycle of poverty, and by partnering with DCS you can make a huge difference in a child’s life! On behalf of the Board of Directors, thank you very much! Jeff Eiserman, President, Discovery Center Board of Directors

TRULY THANKFUL During this giving time of year, Discovery Center wants to extend a special thank you to all of the volunteers that generously gave us a gift of their time in 2013. This year alone more than 6700 hours were gifted to Discovery Center and several new volunteers spent time helping with everything from special events to field trips. It has been a fast and furious year made possible by the support of our community and the Discovery Center staff is truly thankful. Volunteer Training workshop February 19th and February 20th. If interested, please RSVP which day you can attend. Happy 2014!
If interested in volunteering in 2014, please contact the museum manager at 417-862-9910 x709.
