Seniors Lunch Events Off to Great Start
The 1st Heartfelt Lunch event was a true success as about 100 hungry guests took part in the mid-day meal activity. This first of many lunches saw the Seine River Services for Seniors serving a lunch catered by Derica’s Restaurant and the Dawson Trail Museum setting up a display of just some of their artifacts and fielding lots of questions. Some of the RM of Ste. Anne staff and councilors, along with the Reeve worked the front door and brought the project together.
Heartfelt Lunches is a joint program with the RM of Ste. Anne, the Richer Community Club, the Richer Recreation Committee, the Richer Young
The next event is scheduled for Tuesday, February 25!
Final Annual Christmas Lights Going Dark for Pair of Local Residents
Thank you to our awesome community for supporting us the last 10 years with our collecting donations for various animal rescues during our Christmas light display.
Besides what is pictured, we also collected 5 boxes of blankets and towels, dog steps, a dog ramp and $500 cash.
It was tough watching everything go dark for the last time but we will never forget the smiles and laughter that we got to share with all of you.
On behalf of us both, thank you!

Winter Gardening – YES WE CAN!
By Trish Sinanan, growzone3.ca
Who says gardening has to wait for spring? Winter offers plenty of opportunities to get some green going indoors and start planning for the season ahead. Here are some simple and rewarding ways to grow during our winter months.
Growing Sprouts: Fresh Greens in Days
Sprouts are quick, nutritious, and a cost effective food source you can grow on your kitchen counter. All you need are sprouting seeds (like alfalfa, radish, or broccoli), a clean jar, water, and a breathable cover, such as a piece of cheesecloth secured with a rubber band. Rinse and drain the seeds twice a day, and in just a few days, you’ll have crisp, crunchy sprouts ready to add to salads, sandwiches, or soups.
Lettuce: Fresh Food in Your South-Facing Window
Lettuce is a perfect indoor crop
for January. Choose varieties like baby greens or butterhead that thrive in small spaces. A southfacing window provides enough natural light to grow crisp, flavorful leaves. Plant lettuce in shallow trays or small pots with good drainage, and you’ll have fresh greens to harvest in just a few weeks. While a bright window can sustain many plants, some may benefit from supplemental lighting. LED grow lights are affordable, energy-efficient, and mimic natural sunlight. Place them close to your plants, and you’ll see stronger, healthier growth—even in the darkest part of winter.
Planning the Upcoming Garden Season
On those blustery blizzard days, when it’s too wild to head out on the sled, it’s the perfect time to map out your outdoor garden. What were last year’s successes and lessons? What are my must have plants? What can I plant to give more interest during the
winter months? Which seeds will I bring to the seed swap this year?
Whether you’re growing sprouts on the counter or dreaming up a vibrant spring garden, winter gardening is full of possibilities and a little easier on the back!. For more details on growing sprouts and garden planning visit growzone3.ca. Happy gardening.
