CELEBRATING OVER 20 YEARS OF RICHER NEWS!

Volume 21 Issue 8

January 2019

Skating... Bonfire...Sleigh Rides... Hotdogs...Family and Friends!

Annual Christmas in the Park Pure Fun for Families About 150 people popped by the Dawson Trail Park recently to take in the Richer Community Club annual Christmas in the Park. The well maintained outdoor rink and the new skating trail saw lots of action. Santa, who was assisted by a couple of elves and the rodeo mascots, had time to talk to all the kids and handed each one a small gift. Two teams of horses circled the park giving free sleigh rides and a bonfire roared to warm up guests. Everyone was able to enjoy a hotdog or two and hot chocolate and coffee.

Richer Fire Department News

As 2018 draws to an end it is important to look back on the previous year in order to learn and grow. This past year the fire dept. has had many tragedies and triumphs both in our hall and on scenes. We have lost 4 mem-

bers for various reasons and have added 5 new members to our department. As we move into the New Year we can look back and celebrate all that we have accomplished. We have had 5 members complete their level 1 firefighter course along with vehicle extrication and hazardous awareness with another member completing the practical testing and awaiting the results of his written exam. We have also had 3 members complete their firefighter level 2 course. We currently have one member taking an emergency medical responder course which will be complete in the new year. This makes the Richer Fire Dept

better trained than we have ever been. So far, all our new recruits show great promise and are dedicated to training and serving the community alongside the rest of our team. We are planning to train more firefighters in level 1 in 2019 and hope to make improvements to the fire hall and the equipment we use. We have received funding from the RM of Ste Anne to purchase new extraction tools as the current ones have failed and are obsolete. These tools have served us for a long time and have saved countless lives. The Richer Fire Department’s goal is to prevent the loss of life and to control or reduce the loss of property by applying all of

On Friday, Dec. 14 we watched with joy as one of our Youth, Shawn Randell, got baptized at Church of the Rock in Wpg. There have been many people that have spoken into Shawn’s life. Our family, along with friends and leaders from Richer Fellowship and Dayspring churches, have had the privilege of teaching Shawn about God in the Awana program and VBS since he was a young child. As Shawn submitted to God’s will for his life and accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour, he took the next step of faith. “Baptism isn’t a cleansing from sin,” says Shawn, “but showing the world that you belong to Jesus.” Before the baptism, Pastor Mathew Povey asked Shawn, “How long will you follow Jesus?” Shawn’s passionate answer was, “Every day and forever more!” Congratulations Shawn we are very proud of you!

On Friday, Dec. 21 Youth decorated cookies and parents stopped in for coffee to celebrate Christmas and the birth of Jesus Christ.

Youth will meet on Friday Jan. 11 and Friday Jan.25 from 79pm at the Richer School. For more info please text Michelle at 204 371-8021, call 204 4245216 or email richerfiresideyouth@gmail.com.

Being Wise In Resolution

By Pastor Ben Funk A new year is upon us again. Usually we begin with particular resolutions that we may be optimistic about. You might think, at the time, they may be somewhat ambitious. We may have asked, can I even keep them, and can I control their outcome or achieve them. Seldom do we ever evaluate why we are even making such resolutions. If we were to evaluate the resolutions we may even find that they are strategic reminders of the unaccomplished resolutions of the year before. Events and circumstances that we lived through and wondered how we made it or on the other hand, how we enjoyed them. For this coming year we might do well to reflect on the year gone by before compiling a new list of goals and aspirations. It would be good to pay homage to what God has done in and through our lives in the year just past. Giving God glory for our achievements would be a good thing to do. You see, an attitude of gratitude is a complimentary feature in our lives. It is my prayer that we will all accept that God desires to be our guiding One in all that we do. In our resolu-

tions we do well to make them in a prayerful consideration from His counsel. This would prevent needless brain-wracking and unreasonable goal-setting. You see, Ephesians 3:20 reminds the reader that God promises to do more than we can ask or imagine in our lives. On that note – May 2019 be the best year ever in your lives, my friends in Richer. From Richer Fellowship – HAPPY NEW YEAR to all.

Casual Weight Loss The Richer TOPS Club holds meetings every Tuesday evening at 5:30 p.m. at the Richer Fellowship Church Sunday School building, and we are inviting anyone who is interested in Taking Off Pounds Sensibly to join us. We are a very casual group who have a lot of fun together, learning new ways to eat and discussing how we can stay on track every week. We are a less expensive alternative to other weight loss organizations, and our goal is to help each other with our weight loss goals. If you are interested in our program, you are welcome to come down and meet everyone any Tuesday evening, or if you would like more information, please call Marj Betts at 204-422-8486.
