2021 Rodeo Cancelled
The Richer Community Club (RCC) has made a tough decision to cancel the 2021 Richer Rough Stock Rodeo. At its monthly meeting in May, the 2021 rodeo’s viability was discussed. This is the second year in a row the rodeo has been cancelled due to the situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the Provincial Health Regulations put in place. “With respect to our guests, volunteers, sponsors and competitors, we have decided that hosting a rodeo this year would be unwise,” said Dan Guetre, a director for the RCC and a rodeo committee member. “While the
situation may change as the annual date for the rodeo approaches, the RCC board of directors, in discussions with the committee that works hard to throw one of the largest events in southeast Manitoba, has decided that there would not be enough time to gather all the elements together to create the exciting weekend event we all enjoy.” “Adding to the mix is our generous sponsors who have partnered with us to create all the exciting events… many have had a hard year financially, and while we know many of them would come through for us, we do not feel right in asking them to dig deep
at a time where they can refocus this sponsorship money into their business,” explained Guetre. While the rodeo this year is not going to happen, a drive-in Canada Day event is still on the table, similar to an event hosted last year that saw over 2,000 people attend. Also, an event planned for the end of September, Le Rendezvous, is also planned. According to Guetre, this event may be expanded to incorporate some rodeo events into the weekend. “Le Rendezvous was initially set to run in the spring of 2020 but we had to postpone it a couple of times,” said Guetre. “We now
have a tentative date for late September 2021.” The event is defined as a celebration of first nations inhabitants who, with the Métis and francophone settlers, joined together to create the social and cultural fabric of the community and region. The tentative dates for Le Rendezvous are September 17, 18 and 19, 2021 and this would be in conjunction with the Dawson Trails Arts and Heritage Tour and a historical recreation of a Red River Cart trail ride down the Dawson Trail. The 2022 Richer Rough Stock Rodeo is planned for August 12, 13 and 14 and the RCC and rodeo committee are remaining positive that they can create a memorable event that will make up for the two years of cancellations.

From The Pastor’s Desk...
A Light in A Dark World By Ben Funk For starters, do you miss connecting with people. If you are any bit like me, a social type, that needs people to be with and enjoy sharing stories. Many of us are the type of people that need fellowship and connecting with others. Whether it be with friends, family, grandparents, grandchildren, etc. these have all been significantly strained in the past months. But right now, the ways we have to connect are less than they used to be, electronics are not able to substitute as reality. My question is, how can we stay close to God and each other, with all the distancing narrative? Here is the thing, the story we tell of what we are going through will give it meaning, good or bad. Ultimately we choose the story we want to write

and what light we want to write it in. I would like to think that we all want to write our story in a good light in order to direct those around us who may be traveling on a bad path. We are not the first in our world who are experiencing cruelty and slavery. In The Bible, specifically in a book called Exodus, who tells the reader how God freed the people from cruelty and slavery. Those miracles broke captivity, but it introduced a time in the desert which was less then ideal; hot, dry, and wearisome, much like our days of pandemic and lockdowns. Instead of impulsively fetching luxuries on the Master’s whim, life in the desert provided basic food and water while following leaders trying to navigate massive unknowns. Another writer says this: “Remember our history, … our ancestors were led. They went through the waters, … They all ate and drank identical … meals provided daily by God. They drank from the Rock, God’s fountain for them that stayed with them wherever they were. And the Rock was Christ.” (1 Cor 10:1-4) (The Message) The Holy Land God led them into, was beyond their imagining. The grueling journey taught God’s people to rely on God. Daily work, prayer, study, and acts of kindness gave a life structured as never before. We to should keep in mind that our future is not dependent upon present circumstances, it is trusting God to see us through. I encourage each one to be a light in your world, and may Jesus be your Saviour. Here is an invitation: We are planning to host “Adult Teen Challenge” at “Richer Fellowship Church” June 12, at 10:30am. The format may need to be a drive-in style, being broadcast on 87.9fm and on YouTube at “Richer Fellowship” live as a livestream simultaneously. Somewhere in our future, God’s promise of blessing for faithful following will show itself in an abundant life never before known. Until it reveals itself, let’s work, pray, study, and act with all the love we can. Ben Funk is the Pastor of the Richer Fellowship Church.
