Annual Bursaries Renamed Dawson Trail Museum

At a recent board meeting the Richer Community Club (RCC) decided to rename the Spirit of Richer Bursaries it gives out annually to the Brent Wery Memorial Bursaries.

“When Brent was President of the Richer Community Club he was instrumental in convincing the board of the time to create a bursary program to encourage and recognize students and their involvement in volunteering within their communities,” said Dan Guetre, a board member with the RCC. “This is very fitting as Brent defined community involvement.”

Up to two bursaries are awarded each year and applications are available through the schools in the region.

Bleachers Getting Facelift

The bleachers in the Dawson Trail Park are getting a much needed facelift as a local contractor is removing the original wooden seats and replacing the boards with treated lumber.

The work is scheduled to be completed shortly. The project cost for the two remaining bleachers is a bit over $15,000 with the funds coming from the capital reserve fund the Richer Community Club (RCC) has been able to set aside. One of the bleachers was upgraded last year and the RCC decided to complete the other two in order

to prepare for a very busy spring and summer.

Community Invited to AGMs: Talk About Past and Future

The three main organizations responsible for the Dawson Trail Park and events will host their AGM’s on Wednesday, April 12 starting at 7:30 pm at the Richer Young at Hearts Hall.

This is an opportunity to hear what when on in the community over the past year and have your voice heard of what you would like to see in the future.

Community groups like these rely on the support of volunteers and the AGM’s give you the opportunity to participate, whether it is volunteering for an event or taking the next step and becoming a member of one of the committees.

Louis Riel Day Celebration Packs Hall

Community Groups Saddened by Loss of Office Manager

The Richer Community Club, the Richer Recreation Committee and the Richer Rodeo Committee express their condolences to the family of Susan Poseluzney. Susan passed away on February 18 from an unexpected and extremely fast terminal cancer diagnosis.

She leaves behind her husband Tim, her daughter Samantha and two grand children.

Susan worked hard with our community groups to ensure we kept on top of everything. Her patience to work with board members was appreciated as she juggled all our personalities.

The recent Louis Riel Day Celebration hosted by the Richer Métis Local packed the Young at Hearts Hall in Richer with great music and food.

Richer Included on Métis Ride of Hope

The community of Richer will be able to welcome a historical ride as participants will make their way from Hadashville along the Dawson Trail with a stop at the Dawson Trail Park before finishing off the last leg of their journey.

Organizers Armand and Kelly Jerome started the ride back in 2020 and have decided now is the time to finish it.

“It is now our dream to complete one final Red River cart journey before ‘our’ saddles are hung and tools put aside,” wrote the Jerome’s in a statement, “and so for two years now we have been scouting trail and connecting with the people who have so generously donated there time, effort and fabulous input into the planning of this expedition.”

This year’s final leg of the ride will be raising funds in support of Ukrainian orphans.

There will be a fundraising kick-off at Sophie’s Restaurant in Hadashville.

The ride will be held over the May long weekend with more information in the works. Please visit www.themetisrideofhope.com as the details are worked out.
