Halloween Parties in Richer
The two annual Halloween events were held again in Richer on October 27th at the Richer Young at Hearts Club. Families came out in the afternoon to kid’s party which included free entry, games, coloring activities at each table, music, costume judging, treat bags and a canteen. The event was hosted by the Richer Community Club with volunteers leading the activities. The evening social started at 9 pm and was hosted by the Richer Fire Department and Richer Community Club which also included costume judging. This year, $543 was raised at the social and all will be donated to the Ste. Anne Hospital Fund in support of the helipad construction project. Thank you to everyone who donated candy, the local businesses Burnells Food Plus, Richer
Husky, Lagimodiere Restaurant, Ti-Beauville Restaurant, and Timberline Restaurant who donated prizes for the social, One One Consultants for printing the posters, the volunteers who worked a shift or just jumped in to help out when needed for decorating, kids games, costume judging, hauling over supplies, or cleaning up. We wouldn’t be able to put on these events without all the help and support. A variety of pictures from the children’s event held during the day (above) to the Halloween Social for adults (left).

Crib News Richer Crib Club met on Wednesday, October 10th. Besides being a day later than our usual Tuesday tournament, due to a conflict with the hall, we had to contend with a pretty severe snowstorm which dumped about five inches on us, all of which accounted for a fairly low turnout. We were less than twenty, but we still had a good time! Carole Marleau won the evening, with Norm Burnell in second place, and Gayle Carriere came in third. Wally Adair took the booby prize, and Claude Caron won the 50/50. The October 23rd tournament was better attended as there were no conflicts and no snowstorm to contend with. Taking top hon-
ours for the evening was Hudson Somerville while Rick Betts came in second and Cathie Addison won third. Travis Cayer took the booby prize and Carole Marleau won the 50/50. Congratulations to all our winners! Our next regular tournament is Tuesday, November 6th at 7 p.m. at the Young at Hearts hall. Entry fee is $5, coffee and snacks are free and 19 hands pay a dime. Everyone’s welcome so come on down and join us.

Richer Fireside Youth... Teen Challenge and Ste. Anne’s Police: Out in the Street
Youth with Ste. Anne’s police officers.
On Friday October 12, Fireside Youth welcomed Adult and Teen Challenge Outreach to do a Community Drug Awareness Event. Teen Challenge, located in downtown Winnipeg, helps drug addicts and alcoholics get off the street and get the help they need. This time around, an all male team, including musicians, came out to Richer to talk about their road in life and sing of God’s transforming power. Three married men in particular had wives and children waiting at home while they completed the Recovery Program. A young man from Steinbach warned the Youth that he was angry and irrational while doing drugs in high school and suffered memory loss, that if they’re not listening to their parents, they’re already in trouble. At the end of every testimony, each one gave credit to God for helping them turn their life around. One gentleman shared, “Yes, it may sound silly to say Jesus Christ is the answer to all your troubles…but He is.” As part of the evening, Constables Nancy and Paul from the Ste. Anne’s Police Dept encouraged kids to stop by the office anytime and tell them about their struggles, that the police aren’t the “Bad Guys” but are out in the street to help keep them safe. A drug kit was on display and officers gave out pamphlets with information about the different and harmful drugs. Youth will meet on Friday Nov. 2 and Friday Nov.16 at the Richer School gym from 7-9 pm. For more info please call Michelle at 204 424-5216 or text 204 371-8021, email richerfiresideyouth@gmail.com.
In our world there are countless strained relationships. Is there a possible answer or antidote to this reality? The short answer would be yes. We all encounter some relationships that are harder to navigate than others. There are times when we suffer from ups and downs in all our relationships. May it be friends, or family, or significant others. Some of us are constantly trying to get along with everyone. In reality, this may not be a good strategy to employ and therefore fail miserably. When that does not happen we are left with sadness and even anger. We may even find ourselves confronted by a strained relationship we desperately want to fix. In reality, most relationships are worth fixing. My question is, do we just simply give up to easily? Particularly when a broken relationship involves family or long time friends? We should really want to move forward and try and mend the relationship. Some of our relationship issues come from our early environment into which we were born and raised. All too often these environments shape us who we have become. This however, with God’s help and significant teaching, can be shaped to be complimentary to us and those around us. I am such a person who been reshaped in who I am. All too frequently I come in contact with people who have struggled with low self-esteem, relationship problems, feelings of worthlessness and depression related to abusive and absent parents in the home. Why do our relationships go the way they go and what can I do to get back on track with healthy self-worth, self-value? Beginning November 1 at 7 pm the Richer Fellowship Church is offering a course that will seek to address the idea of “Changing Our Thinking”. The course is free and open to all. Come with an open mind and open heart and see what God will do. We are interested in forming a better you who will be empowered to empower others in your circle of influence.
