From The Pastor’s Desk...

Awareness

By Pastor Ben Funk Most of the mail that comes to our homes is less than inspiring. It usually consists of loads of fliers, a bill or two, and on the rare occasion, an actual, good old fashioned letter. However, this past week one such delivered document really caught my attention - not the content so much but the envelope. Emblazoned across the front in big letters was the two word phrase, “LAST CHANCE”. In slightly smaller but no less intimidating script under the first was the rather ominous statement “TERMINATION NOTICE”. Pretty scary stuff, to say the least. Fortunately it had nothing to do with my imminent demise or a legal judgment. Rather it was concerning my insurance on one of my vehicles that I was holding off on. Now after a chuckle or two it got me to thinking about what the Bible has to say about our lives, and how volatile life can be. But it seems none of us may receive the notice of LAST CHANCE or even a TERMINATION NOTICE. However, we should have an awareness of life and how it shapes us, particularly in our spiritual journey to prepare us for life that does not end, but continues on into eternity with Jesus. The fast approaching season of Christmas speaks of that life, life of relationship with Jesus for all eternity, it is ours for the asking. Speaking of Christmas; Richer Fellowship Church is again hosting a local CHRISTMAS BANQUET December 13th, 7pm. This celebratory event is open to all that would love to enjoy a good meal

and loads of interesting conversation around your table. For tickets please call the church office (1-204-422-5308) and leave a voice mail or call Paul at 1-204422-9774, or go to our Facebook page or our web page and contact us that way. The price per ticket is $15.00. We would also like to extend an open invitation for you to attend Sunday worship with us at 50 Southeast Drive. Worship begins at 10:30am. We are continuing our journey through the Book of Nehemiah “Reconstruction Restoration”. Wednesday even we are holding a special class on “Personal Confidence and Self-Image”. “We love Richer”.

Richer Fireside Youth...

The Final Verdict

Turning the Richer School gym into a court room was the perfect setting to teach Youth about justice-God’s way. The jury was assembled, the judge seated with gavel in hand, and the warden ready with a paper bag of 10 “Excuses”. Each Youth had to step up to the “Bench” and take a turn pulling out their excuse and reading it. The jury would then deliberate whether “Guilty!” or “Not Guilty!” but only the judge could pass the final verdict. The first excuse was read, “So what if I cheated on the test, the kid beside me cheats all the time.” The shouting match was on and different opinions flew. The judge slammed the gavel down, “Guilty!” The second excuse was read, “Hey, I haven’t killed anyone, I’m a good person.” Unanimously, the jury decided the verdict should be, “Not Guilty!” but again the judge’s gavel came down with a force, “Guilty!” Every single excuse

was read and every verdict so far was, “Guilty!” Tempers were actually flaring. The last piece of paper was unfolded and the girl with the temper wanted another try. She read, “God, I’m sorry. I can’t even lift up my eyes. I’m wrong.” Romans 3:23 says, For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” The “Excuses” in the paper bag were really sins-our sins. God is the Judge and we are all declared guilty and fall short of His righteous standards. We could never pay the price for our sin no matter how much we justify ourselves and think we’re good people. But there is good news for all of us! Jesus Christ not only paid for the “sins in the paper bag” but for every thought and intent of our hearts, taking our sins upon Himself, shedding His blood on the cross so we could inherit eternal life. All we have to do is admit we fall short by saying, “God, I’m

sorry. I can’t even lift up my eyes. I’m wrong”. The Judge will read the Final verdict: “Forgiven.” Youth 12-17 will meet Friday Nov. 1 and Friday Nov. 15 from

7-9 pm at the Richer School gymnasium. For more info please text Michelle at 204 371-8021, call 204 424-5216 or email richerfiresideyouth@gmail.com.
