Perfect Weather for Rodeo

In mid-August Richer again became rodeo central when the Richer Rough Stock Rodeo kicked off their seventh consecutive event. The rodeo attracted over 200 competitors and almost 6,000 weekend visitors in crowd pleasing events such as bull riding, tiedown roping, team roping, barrel racing, steer wrestling and saddle bronco. Pat Stolwyk, Rodeo Committee President said that the Richer Rough Stock Rodeo has come a long way in seven years and the secret to their success is the dedicated volunteers who step up to ensure its ongoing success and growth. “Every year we count on over 100 volunteers, some who come

from a distance, but most come from our small community and neighbouring communities. This event would not happen without the dedication and generosity of these people, said Stolwyk.

2020 Richer Community Club Calendars

The Richer Community Club is gathering information for the 2020 community calendars. Local businesses will be listed and a different photo displayed for each month. Families have the option of listing their birthdays, anniversaries and memorials. If you want to have this information listed, please email the names as you would like them to appear on the calendar, along with the date and category (B,A, or M). For example: John Smith Feb 15, B; John and Jill Smith Sept 23, A. The information can be emailed to richercalendars@hotmail.com or phone Sarah at 204-422-6311. If you had the information listed last year you will be contacted to see if there are any changes - so no need to resend. Advertising spaces are once again only $100 a block. The calendar is a great way for local businesses and organizations to advertise because their ad is displayed year round. Profits made through advertising will go towards improvements to our playground area in Richer Dawson

Trail Park. We are in need of some local photos for the calendar. Photos can be from events, nature or

Community Club receives Canada Post Community Foundation support

Richer Postmaster Marie Courcelles presented RCC Director Darson Dueck with a cheque for $5,000 to go towards a BMX mogul trail and winter toboggan hill in the park.

The Richer Community Club (RCC) has received $5,000 from the Canada Post Community Foundation for an important project, BMX mogul course and children’s winter toboggan hill, in Dawson Trail Park. Led by the volunteer RCC, the project focuses on adding amenities to Dawson Trail Park. “This grant will help us to continue improving the park and creating a welcoming environment for children and families,” says Darson Dueck, a community club member who spearheaded the grant application. “Canada Post is proud to help organizations and projects that make a difference in the lives of Canadian children and youth. Through the generosity of our customers, the Canada Post Community Foundation is able to fund important programs in communities across the country every year,” said Canada Post in a release. “On behalf of Canada Post, I’m happy to present this cheque in the amount of $5,000 to the Richer Community Club,” said Richer Postmaster Marie Courcelles. “You have worked towards improving the quality of life for the residents of Richer. What was once just a barren and empty space has now bloomed into a popular place for sports, recreation and entertainment for young and old. Please continue your good work and thank you all for your dedication.”

2019 Done: Mockingjay Archers

The Mockingjay Archers pole archery club, which shoots in the Richer Dawson Trail Park every Thursday evening from May till end of August, had their prize shoot on August 22nd. The prize shoot is a fun shoot where each member brings a prize and, after shooting is complete, the members with the most points get to pick a prize first. The final shoot for the season was on August 29. The club is very family friendly with 20 adult and 11 youth members in 2019. Although plaques are given out at the end of the season, most are just there

for fun and socializing. Some members will be participating in the Manitoba Pole Archery Association tournament on Septem-

Rodeo Committee President Takes Home Annual Community Award

The Dawson Trail Dispatch surprised Rodeo Committee President Pat Stolwyk, and his family with the annual community volunteer award at the end of this year’s Richer Rough Stock Rodeo. Committee member and editor of the Dispatch, Dan Guetre presented the award. He explained to the crowd that the entire family deserved the award as they were known for not only volunteering in the community but helping out in events and other organizations across the province. “They are prime examples of how one can juggle family while working tirelessly to help neighbours,” Guetre said. “They have even opened up their home to children making them part of their own family. They are very caring community members.” “They are an asset to this community,” Guetre concluded. Vice President of the Rodeo Committee Mark Lanouette (left) looks on as Dan Guetre (far right) presents the award to (left to right) son-in-law Marty Pitura, Pat and Betty Stolwyk, and daughter Corissa Pitura.

Richer Fireside Youth...

September is Youth Registration Month! On Friday August 16, Youth met at the park for our second wiener roast of the summer. Kids sat around the fireside and learned that God wants the best for them and to finish well. Afterwards, everyone played kickball in the field and basketball at the skate park. From August 19-23, Youth enjoyed time away from home to meet new friends, as Grace, our Youth leader and senior camp counsellor, brought 5 Youth up to Fisher Bay Bible Camp at Fisher River. Camp provided the atmosphere for kids to strengthen their walk with God through Chapel and deeper life sessions taught by Pastor Mike Comtois of Faith Evangelical Bible Church in Winkler. Youth also tested their endurance in skills such as: BMX racing, kayaking and riflery. Having fun, singing camp songs, and getting one on one time with counsellors was all part of a great week! FRIDAY SEPT. 20 is Youth registration night for Youth ages 12-17 at the Richer School gymnasium from 7-9 pm. Parents and caregivers please register your Youth “Once for the Year”. We will meet alternate Fridays from Sept-May where Youth will continue to build friendships, play sports, and learn more about God. Please come and pick up your Youth Schedule. Looking forward to getting to know the Youth of Richer! For more info please text Michelle at 204 3718021, call 204 424-5216 or email richerfiresideyouth@gmail.com.

Anticipation

The end of something is always the beginning of something, and even something new. Summer has created many memories for a good many of us. Possibly traveled to a variety of different places in our wonderful province or even country. Marjorie and I had just that opportunity to mount our Harley’s and take in Sturgis again this year and connect with our friends that also make the annual pilgrimage. Hope you took lots of pictures to preserve lasting memories or enhance conversation in the coming months (hesitating to say winter). In reality, we at Richer Fellowship Church are not done with summer yet. We thought (with encouragement from others) it would be a good idea to have one more time of celebration in the Richer Park. We celebrated Canada Day together, many of us took in, and participated in, the Rough Stock Rodeo. Now we thought it would be good for all of us to get together just because. Mark your calendar for September 15, 3pm we are bringing in two bands for a community concert and picnic in the park. “Small Town Limits” from 3-5 pm and “Jake Breaks” from 6-8pm. It is free. Come and enjoy the concert and bring some stuff you would enjoy for a picnic. There will be a couple of barbeque’s there for use to you. The event will be sponsered by “Richer Fellowship Church” right here in Richer. It is our desire to connect with you as residence of Richer Community and get to know each other a little better. I believe I wrote about getting to know your neighbour better in early summer. This is part of that philosophy of building

relationships just like Jesus showed us in His life while He lived on our earth. Hope to see you at the Park on September 15, 3 pm.

Ben Funk is Pastor of the Richer Fellowship Church.
