The inspiring youngster took part in Riley’s Big Chop, where he raised money for Variety the Children’s Charity’s Hair with Heart last month.
The event took place on 26th March at the Colonial Hotel in Werrington. Riley had 37.5cm of his hair cut and donated to the charity, all whilst raising valuable funds.
“We wanted Riley’s first haircut to have meaning, as there were a lot of tears and tantrums in maintaining his hair. We wanted his beautiful hair to go to good use and so we searched up hair donations” said Jasmine Dehar, Riley’s mother.
“We came across Hair with Heart, a children’s charity who make wigs for sick children with medical conditions such as cancer and alopecia. They also fund grants, scholarships and programs that help Aussie kids 0 - 18 who are sick, experiencing disadvantage or living with a disability” she continued.
The experience of seeing Riley lose his long locks for the first time was one of both sadness and happiness.
“It was a mixture of emotions. It’s sad to see our baby transform into a little boy, but also relieving that there will be no more tears whilst brushing his hair” Jasmine explained.
Jasmine and her family would like to thank the local community for getting behind and supporting Riley in his inspirational quest.
“We would like to thank the small businesses who generously donated to Riley’s cause. This includes Woolworths Jordan Springs, BWS Jordan Springs, XS Espresso, Fadez R Us for donating his time and skills in cutting Riley’s hair, The Colonial Hotel and of course, all the people who directly donated to his page. We are super grateful for all the support” she smiled.
