This summer, each of us has to continue to be extra careful, because of a dangerous virus called COVID-19. This virus is caused by a germ that easily spreads from person to person, and makes the body sick. This is why we’re doing more camp activities at home. Right now, scientists are coming up with ways to cure the virus, to help us get back to normal. But until then, we all have to do our part to stop the spread of germs and keep our families and communities safe. Here’s how you can help:

THE DPR CAMP-AT-HOME EXPERIENCE DPR’s Camp-at-Home is made up of three components – the DPR Fun Pack, provided to each registered camper, the at-home activities provided in this Activity Guide, and online videos and virtual camp content at DPRCampathome.com. As you browse through the activity guide, you’ll see dozens of activities, grouped by age as well as activity type. Use what we’ve provided as a guide but feel free to make up your own routine as you go along. The most important thing is to find what works best for your camper and to have fun!

CAMP GLOSSARY Climate Check:

Begin each morning by checking in with your camper and asking how they’re feeling. Engage in light conversation. We typically use this time to sing songs, encourage positive energy, and set a positive mood for the rest of the day. Campers can also use this time to check in with family members as well. The entire household can help build excitement about the day.

Arts & Crafts:

Before getting started, gather all of the necessary materials, and follow the instructions provided in the guide. Some of these activities may also be featured videos on DPRCampathome.com. These activities are designed to bring out and showcase your child’s artistic ability. Remember to encourage campers and give compliments for their amazing work and effort.

Exploratory/Games /Creative Activity:

These activities are designed to spark your camper curiosity! They will expose your camper to a variety of experiences, including culinary arts, science experiments, outdoor adventures, and more. Don’t have time to do something so involved? This part of the day can be scaled back to just a card game, board game, dramatic play, or another type of simple activity that gets your camper thinking.

Fitness/Movement Activity:

These activities are designed to get your child moving, and will help to develop an active, healthy mindset. Remember, staying at home doesn’t mean staying inactive.

Camper’s Choice:

This is a time for your camper to select what they want to do. Provide your camper with a few activities to choose from and allow them to decide how to spend their time. This helps campers to exercise their decision making and independence.

Daily Camp Recap:

Take a few minutes at the end of the day to speak with your campers about their day. What did they enjoy? What did they learn? If you have multiple camper, how well did they work together? Remember to check out the “Activities & Games” section for detailed instructions on individual activities. Feel free to follow the structure provided, or flip through and pick the ones that your camper will enjoy the most. *Examples of Climate Checks, Arts & Crafts, Exploratory Games, and Fitness & videos will be featured on DPRCampathome.com. Check the website daily!

Bend the ends of them so that they are pointing downwards. 6. Cut another pipe cleaner in half and bend the end of it to create a pincer shape. Repeat this with the other half, then push them into either side of the egg carton. 7.

makes the effect of the lava lamp less stellar. 7.

Now for the magic ! Break an effervescent tablet into four pieces. Drop in one piece at a time.

When you drop in the effervescent tablet, it sinks to the bottom and starts dissolving. As it dissolves, it forms a gas which rises to the top and takes a little of the colored water with it. The gas bubble breaks on the surface and the colored water sinks back to the bottom.

Set Up: If you want a smooth, white surface as a backdrop, use a white wall, if available, or use painter’s tape to hold up white paper or cloth. 2. Go on a scavenger hunt around your house. Try to find objects with many different properties, or objects that will create interesting shadows. 3. Find a darkened room, either in the interior of your house, or at night. It does not have to be completely dark; just dark enough that your shadows are easily visible. 4. Position your objects between your flashlight and the background. 5. Ask yourself the following questions: • What kinds of shadows can you make? • Is there a difference between the shadows made by transparent, opaque and translucent materials? • Which materials are reflective? What happens when you move them around?
