SeemaMathewisaself-taughtartistandatwo-timecancersurvivor.In2014,after recoveryfromtreatment,shetookuppaintingfull-timetorealizeherlifelongdreamof beinganartist.EarlyinSeema’sartisticpractice,sheaccidentallydiscoveredthe unusualeffectofChineseinkoncanvas.Seemaspentthenextfiveyearsexperimenting andresearchingthismediumanddevelopingtechniquesforit.Since2020Seemahas beenworkingwithwater-solublegraphiteonlinenpaper,adaptingtechniquesshe inventedforinkoncanvas.Thecomplexityofhumanrelationshipsandthestruggleof humansagainsttheenvironment,particularlyacuteinHongKong’scrowded urbanscape,areunderlyingthemesinSeema’swork.
