Greetings from your Lt.G Hello Division 28 Key Clubbers! With summer right around the corner, I hope you’re all excited for a summer filled with service and fun! These next three months will be critical in your learning period because once September rolls around, each school in Division 28 will be preparing for their very first meeting of the year. So it’s very important to train each and every one of the officers to make sure they’re ready to lead their clubs! I will be gone for the second half of June because I will be out of state, so if anyone needs to contact me, please call me or text me. I will also be at ICON from June 30th – July 6th and I’m super excited to attend with the help of Issaquah, Bellevue, and Kirkland Sunrisers Kiwanis clubs. Have a great summer and don’t forget to continue volunteering because the PNW Is Proud ‘N’ Willing to serve! See you all soon! In Love and Service,

Jenna Liang

WHAT IS KEY CLUB? Key Club International is the oldest and largest service program for high school students. It is a student-led organization that teaches leadership through service to others. Members of the Kiwanis International family, Key Club members build themselves as they build their schools and communities.

Mission statement Key Club is an international student-led organization which provides its members with opportunities to provide service, build character and develop leadership. Vision We are caring and competent servant leaders transforming communities worldwide. Core values The core values of Key Club International are leadership, character building, caring and inclusiveness. Pledge I pledge, on my honor, to uphold the Objects of Key Club International; to build my home, school and community; to serve my nation and God; and combat all forces which tend to undermine these institutions. Motto Caring–Our Way of Life

In the midst of serene nature and fluctuating weather conditions lies the great Pacific Northwest District (PNW). The Pacific Northwest is geographically the largest district of Key Club International. The district spans from western Canada to northern California; with Alaska, Washington, Oregon, and the pan-handle of Idaho in between. The Pacific Northwest encompasses nearly 1.8 million square miles and includes over 300 clubs that operate under 44 divisions. Through rain or shine, snow or hail, Key Clubbers in the PNW dedicate countless hours to their communities and international, and we are always Proud ‘N’ Willing to serve!

PNW KEY CLUB

Dear Pacific Northwest District, The ending of District Convention is always hard, but it also marks the beginning of another Key Club year, and another year of service. If you have not already met me, I am Lisa Antonio, and I am honored to have the chance to serve as your District Governor for the next year. I am so privileged to be leading such a diverse and enthusiastic district, and I am excited to start building upon our strengths and creating new solutions for our district’s weaknesses. In this upcoming year I want to focus on clubs and members. I want to make sure clubs are thriving and increasing not only membership, but active membership. I want each club member to know the District Board is there to serve the members. I am inspired by the love and passion each one of you has for the act of service. Keep up the amazing work, and remember that ever single minute you spend serving the community is changing the world around you in a positive way. Remember to always keep service in your heart, and no matter what is going on in life, if you are serving, you can always find love. Keep in mind that in hard times, you always have your Key Club family to lean back on, and depend on. Know that the things you have done in Key Club, and the people’s lives you have touched along the way will never be forgotten. Once again I am so grateful to have the chance to serve all of you. I am looking forward to meeting all of you, and if you have any questions please feel free to contact me via email, Facebook, or telephone!

In Love and Service,

Lisa Antonio Pacific Northwest District Key Club Governor

Letter from the District Governor & Meet the Appointed Positions

Communications Director Anav Gagneja I'm Anav Gagneja, and I'll be serving as your communications director this year! Stumbling into that first key club meeting as a confused sophomore was undoubtedly one of the best decisions I've ever made - one that has led to a myriad of amazing friends, countless hours of devoted service, and an innumerable amount of great experiences. I'm so excited to be able to give back to this club which has provided me with so much! Outside of Key Club, I enjoy science, friends, and cookie crisp. Can't wait to make this the best year ever working on the District Board!

K-Family and Int. Projects Director Tina Sok How's it going, Key Clubbers? My name is Athena Sok (but you may also call me Tina) and I have been blessed with the opportunity to be appointed as your K-Family Relations and International Projects Director! I am extremely excited to work with the district board this year AND to meet all of you! As your K-Fam/Int. Projects Director, I plan to significantly improve the relationships and communication between Key Club members and the K-Family branches. In this upcoming year, my plans include district wide events that allow Circle K, Kiwanis, and many more K-Family members to join together and share our love for service. These events will be put on in support of our preferred charities which will allow more K-Family members to join our cause! I am looking forward to a fun-filled and fantastic year with you all. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at (253) 310-3271 or sok.athena@gmail.com.

District Project Director Ben Scranage Hey Key Clubbers, we have a single year left. In 2015 The Kiwanis family will turn 100 and The Eliminate Project will come to a close. Maternal Neonatal tetanus is not waiting for us to act. We must fight quickly and together. Now that I sound like a dictator, I want to make sure you know me! I am Ben Scranage, your 2014-2015 District Projects Director. I want to work with each and every one of your clubs to make sure that the Pacific Northwest reaches their goal of fifty thousand dollars this Key Club Year! I promise you that even though I live in the small town of Harrisburg, Oregon, just outside of Eugene, I will be there for any of your questions at any time of the day. My phone number is (541) 220-0066, and my email is ben.scranage74@gmail.com. Reach out and don't feel like a stranger.

Membership Growth and Reactivation Director Suvir Copparam Hi, I'm Suvir Copparam, your Membership Growth and Reactivation Director! I'll be working to increase membership and make club meetings more fun for all of you this year! Outside of Key Club, I'm really interested in programming and making things/engineering which I'd like to use to make a positive impact on the lives of others. I really love being part of an organization that is making such a huge difference in the world with the help of so many other people!

Convention Aide Ryan Miura Hello PNW! I’m Ryan Miura and I’m one of your Convention Aides this year who will help plan the 66th annual District Convention. Key Club has had a huge impact on who I am, and I hope I can continue to grow and learn from my experiences as a part of the K-Family. I love trees, cats, and meeting my fellow PNW Key Clubbers so holla at me if you happen to see me and want to talk! I’m pumped to represent the most loving and spirited division around, Division 66, so let’s work together to have a great year of service!

Convention Aide Jag Bains Hey! I’m Jag and I’m your convention aide! I’m really ecstatic to be on the board and ready to put on the best DCON ever! I’m a runner and I love listening to music! Most of my free time is spent going to all of my home Key Club’s service projects…because, well…Key Club is life! My favorite color is aquamarine and I’m super random and charismatic with most anything! I look forward to becoming best friends with all of you Key Clubbers! Agape!

ELIMINATE 1 baby dies every 9 minutes from tetanus

$1.80 protects 1 woman and her future babies

MNT has been eliminated in more than 20 countries since 2000

MNT results when tetanus spores, which are present in soil everywhere, enter the bloodstream. It is mainly caused by a lack of access to sanitary birthing conditions, unclean instruments used to cut the umbilical cord and unclean postpartum cord care. Once the disease is contracted, the fatality rate can be as high as 100 percent in underserved areas. Most mothers and newborns who die of tetanus live in areas of Africa, South Asia and East Asia, where many woman are poor, having little access to health care, have unlimited information about safe delivery procedures and continue harmful cord care practices.

PROJECT What can I do to help?

 Spread the word about MNT and its devastating and preventable affects  Visit the www.TheEliminateProject.org to access key messages, brochures, and videos  Include fundraising for The Eliminate Project your plans for 2014-2015
