Salutations Robots w/ Hearts! I hope that your summer has been packed with service and fun! As summer is coming to a close, we can celebrate a summer filled with over 400 hours completed as a Division and a little more than $100 raised for PTP. Fortunately, we have a whole school year to perform even more service in our communities. The school year can be what each of us make of it, go get straight A’s or complete “x” amount of community service, you can decide but, I challenge each Key Clubber within this Division to complete 50 hours of community service by the end of the school year and bring 1 new member to your Club meetings when the school year kicks off! Start the school year strong and make it one to remember. With so much love, Ryan Gwin [D31 Lieutenant Govenor]

A DOSE OF DLT

Hello Robots With Hearts! My name is Nancy Pham. I am your 2016-17 Division Executive Assistant. I know that many of you are confused or don't know what I do so let me tell you more about it. In a way, I am like the division's secretary. I help assist Ryan Gwin, our LTG, with matters like planning events or recording improvements. I also aid to the presidents of our division. I provide them with new information and updates. I usually work behind the scene in making sure everything runs smoothly. However, I am not the only one doing this. Our division has two EA's. Elizabeth Felix, my co-EA also works with me and performs these tasks too. Each of us are in charge of five schools. I am in charge of Granite Hills, Grossmont, Santana, Monte Vista and West Hills. While Felix has Grossmont Middle College, Helix, Mountain Empire, Steele Canyon and Valhalla. We will be sending out many emails as the term progresses so please make sure to check them. If you have any questions or concerns, please email or call me. Thank you! I look forward to working with you all soon!! Nancy Pham [D31 Executive Assistant]

What's Buzzing Pals! This is Elizabeth Felix one of your fabulous Executive Assistants in the even more fabulous DLT team of 2016-2017. As part of this newsletter I wanted to pretty much introduce myself. With that said, I wanted to start by saying I am a senior at Grossmont High. As a student I participate in more than just Key Club such as NJROTC, Academic League, Soccer, and other clubs! Swinging back to this letter I wanted to inform my expectations on making Key Club better for everyone year round! I have planned to increase the level of participation from each club, grow motivation, and benefit each member with a role of leadership. With those tasks at hand they will help us reach our goal of becoming better citizens! It may seem a bit out of reach but with everyone in and helping each other we can all learn a thing or two! Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. I hope I get to see you all at upcoming events!

Elizabeth Felix [D31 Executive Assistant]

What's Poppin D31? As part of this newsletter, I wanted to introduce myself as well as my goals for the upcoming term! As many of you know, I am Sierra Raber and I will be serving on our division's leadership team as Member Recognition Chair! Being my last year in high school (and Key Club) I hope to make this one the best! Because through all of the other extracurriculars I participate in (golf, water polo, swim, NHS, Link Crew etc..) Key Club holds the biggest place in this robot's heart. Throughout making this year the best yet, I hope to work together to recognize all the hard work that goes into that goal! So please, continue to do all of the great things you do and I promise to work hard to recognize all of these contributions, no matter their size!! Thanks for your time and I look forward to continuing to meet you all and put faces to your names and actions! Sierra Raber [D31 Member Recognition Chair]

COLOR RUN

SUMMER OF 2016

COLOR RUN Article by: Fey Cordova [Granite Hills President] Color was everywhere, literally and smiles and laughter triumphed. The division color run was the most fun service event I had ever done. Even though we weren't the runners, throwing color at people was even better. We were all equally doused in color from top to bottom. Not only was our division their but other Key club divisions were there also and I was able to meet tons of other key clubbers. I absolutely loved the idea and am excited for future division events. Article by: Grace Cercado [Grossmont Editor] On July 10, many Key Club members came around 5 o’clock in the cold morning to get their assigning work for the exciting Color Run at Downtown San Diego. In this event, the members of our club had so much fun and worked with everyone as a team like it should be. As a member of this club, it was an honor to attend this event with everyone and being able to help out. Everyone got to know each other better and got to meet new friends along the way. My favorite part of this event was the Color Run concert because I got to see many happy faces and got to know more of my key club officers. Everyone was dancing and smiling with so much positivity. This event is an event worth going to next year!

Granite Hills Club Report

Article by: Fey Cordova Granite Hills - President

The beginning of senior year, how incredible! New classes, new friends, new memories and a new goal to strive until graduation. Not only my last year of high school but my last year in Key Club, and as the President I plan on devoting my time and making my last year in club a special one. One of my biggest goals to achieve this year is to make up the loss of members due to 45 seniors graduating. With new school year approaching, I plan on visiting the 5th period classes and discussing what our club does and how it benefits them for college. Another idea is sending out letters to the freshman class and formally inviting them into our club, again explaining what our club does and how it will help them for college. Most of the kids, who were in Builders club, will join Key Club because they will want to continue their time in the club. Once we have had the application turned on and have new members, the officers and I will plan a Key club 101 to discuss the parts of Key club such as Kiwanis, our community, internationally and our district. Apart from the 101, I would like to have a social event, where everyone can get to know each other better. Once we start the Key club year, our club will be separating the members into groups with an officer assigned to them. In the groups the officers will take attendance and will talk briefly about upcoming events. The groups will also be collecting money for fundraisers and will get to know people within their group. Once the groups are done discussing, the meeting will begin. The groups is a better way for the freshman to meet other people of different grades and it connects the members more. I'm honestly very excited for what's to come and I know this year will be amazing.

Grossmont Club Report

Article by: Doreen Guzman Grossmont - President

For the month of July, Grossmont's Key Club was able to attend the Color Run and the beach cleanup, both hosted by our LTG. We have not done that much, however we plan on having our summer board meeting on July 23rd to discuss future plans for our Key Club. This includes, bringing awareness of what Key Club is, finding ways to bring in new members, especially through our school's G-Crew and ASB, and organizing and planning future service projects and fundraisers. With school now approaching, we are looking forward to seeing everyone being apart of our club and our division! Robots with Hearts!

Steele Canyon Club Report

Article by: Ashley Lahti Steele Canyon - Editor

We haven't done much yet this summer besides a lot a lot of planning and organizing. We have come up with more productive ways to construct our meetings along with how to get more volunteers interested in the club. We also have started working on our water drive to collect bottled water to give the the homeless in this intense heat. We plan on starting that the first week of school so the back to school hype gets everyone's attention. In addition, we have even started our plans for the Christmas party we plan to throw at Noah Homes, an old folks home that is right next door to Steele Canyon.
