ltg’s letter

Happy February, Tigers! When I think of February, I think of rainy days, pink things, candy, and showing people I love them. Whether it be your best friend, family, or even an advisor, why not reach out to them to show your appreciation for them this month? On top of that, don’t forget to show love to your home, school, and community, hehe ;)

There are only two months left in the term before I am no longer serving you as your Lt. Governor. I have mixed feelings about retirement, but it definitely has been an interesting ride, but I’ll save that for another letter! As we reach a close to the term, its important to remember to keep up all the service and fundraising in order to ensure that the California Nevada Hawaii District goals are met. It is crucial that we push for more service within these last few months, as well as ensure hours are properly being recorded into the MRF to further help this goal. Personally, my work load has begun to die down. Aside from normal Key Club work, my school load has definitely lightened up. Being a second semester senior, there isn’t much I can do now, but simply play the waiting game. This doesn’t pertain to just letters from colleges and graduation, but as well as retirement. And in less than two weeks, I’ll be giving birth to the new Division 43 LTG Elect for the 2017-2018 term! Time really does fly, but I am trying to make the best out of it. I hope you all make the best out of the rest of this term. See you soon, Tigers. ♡

greetings to kiwanians - Jeff Galvan // Marina Member

While creating cards for our advisors this month, we also made cards for veterans to read during the holiday season. I saw it as a great experience to give back to the veterans who have done a lot for our country. Making cards with my friends was fun also. Although I am terrible at drawing, it felt good writing personalized messages on each card. I even made a birthday card for that one veteran that has their birthday the same day as Christmas! Overall, I found this service project very rewarding.

york key club becomes bridgewatch angels - Syd Ragsdale-Cronin // York Member On New Year’s Day, two York Key Club members traveled to San Francisco to participate in the Bridgewatch Angels program. We walked up and down the Golden Gate Bridge, looking for people who were about to commit suicide. Many members were busy that weekend, and since the volunteer project was 18+, it was no surprised that Teagan, our president, and I were the only ones who went. Once we received our armbands, we were teamed up in a group of 4 and sent to our certain numbered lamppost. We were to patrol a span of about 150 feet for four hours. Teagan and I ended up following a few people, as they looked like the description the volunteer told us to look out for. Teagan said that this may be the most important project we do this year, and I agree. Some service projects help make life a little easier, but this project helped to keep people alive, in the rawest form. I won’t forget my experience, and suggest it to anyone 18+ who needs life to be put into perspective.

felton covered bridge restoration - Vineha Ramesh// Scotts Valley President

On December 17, the Scotts Valley Key Club helped honor the volunteers of the Felton Covered Bridge Restoration Project. We also celebrated the holiday season with the annual Holiday Mart under the Felton Covered Bridge. The bridge is a historical landmark that was once the only pathway available to cross the mighty San Lorenzo River. To help with the celebration, our Key Clubbers with the help of those from the San Lorenzo Valley Key Club helped with the setup and cleanup of various booths, activities, and live music. The event was a great way to give back to our community and local artisans.

cards for kiwanis

- Hoan Le // Marina Treasurer This Christmas, our club decided to make festive cards for our advisors. All year long, our advisors have kept us afloat throughout our numerous events by providing rides, guidance, and security to the club's members. With that mentality, we set out on making the greatest cards that would be fitting for our great advisors. After school, we made many cards filled with all various messages and designs. This year, we wanted to thank our advisors for all generosity and kindness they've granted to us. Without them, we wouldn't be the club that we are now!

key club golf tournament - Laura Bauman // York Vice President

This November approximately 15 York Key Clubbers volunteered with Kiwanis to assist at the TaylorMade Golf Tournament. We braved cold weather and wind to carry standards for the various golf teams. Many members worked close to 16 hours over the two day event. I personally was not a big fan of golf, until I saw it played up close. As I toted my sign around the golf course I gained an appreciation for the difficulties the game of golf can present. It takes a certain type of person to spend over 6 hours playing a game in the not-entirely pleasant elements. I also got to engage in meaningful conversation with my adult scorer and even had a few brief conversations with the pro golfer on my team. Everyone I met was kind and very appreciative of the work I was doing. It was a true example of how large events need as many volunteers as possible in order to be successful. I volunteered both days, and ended up getting a pretty cool windbreaker. Not only is our Key Club more informed about golf, we also helped Kiwanis advance their mission of service!

editor’s note

Hey Tigers! Can you guys believe that the end of the term is quickly approaching us?

In just a couple of weeks we will be electing Division 43’s next Lieutenant Governor, a couple of months after that the ProsperiBees will retire, and the NewBees will be installed at DCON! Despite

the Key Club year quickly coming to an end, remember the service does not stop here. We still have our division, district, and possibly your home clubs’ goals to fulfill! BEE sure to continue doing your best as you all serve your homes, schools, and communities. As District Convention is quickly approaching, remember to continue fundraising and plan proactively as it is in Anaheim this year. I hope to see you all very soon. Thank you for reading. Tigers!
