A LETTER FROM YOUR

LTG

T-MINUS 3 DAYS (including today) UNTIL WE ELECT THE LT. GOVERNOR FOR THE 2018-2019 TERM TIGERS! HOW TIME HAS FLOWN BY! To me, it just feels like last week, I stood in front of all of you at Conclave 2017, running to be the division’s Lt. Governor. It’s crazy to think about it being almost a year since that has happened. We have all gone through our own fair share of ups and downs, of our happiness and sadness. As I continue to reflect on how the term has gone and what is left to be done, I feel myself get simp about it all. From the first DCM in April, to RTC, to FRN, and everything else up to now just gives me a rush of feelings! Even the small things like conversations I have had with members or tiny little interactions motivate me to be a better Key Clubber and friend as a whole. While we work hard these few last few months, remember that you can always contact me with any comments, questions, or concerns! Whether it be Key Club related or not, I am always here for you. Don’t be afraid to talk to me! Let’s end this therm with a BANG!

DECEMBER

dcm

My experience at DCM was very great because it was my first time and I got to meet a lot of people. All my friends that already have gone there told me that we were going to be looking like jellybeans when everyone gets together. I got to learn new cheers with my friends. I really love key club and I hope this never stops.

- EFREN CABRERA, SEASIDE MEMBER I believe the December DCM was a bonding experience for everyone that attended. It introduced people from completely different schools to each other with the activities, all while helping the community and having fun.

- JOSHUA BLACKMON, SEASIDE MEMBER 9

SENIOR DINNER

10

We held a senior diner at the Civic Center. The members and I were able to help the senior citizens by serving them food or helping them get to their seats. It seemed that they were enjoying their food and time there. It was really nice and I’m glad I was able to be part of it.

UPDATES ON

SCOTTS VALLEY KEY CLUB Last year, our Key Club was all but nonexistent. This year, we started small but became a dedicated group participating in our community. We cleaned up after the “Lobster Feed” at Henry Cowell, a fundraiser for state parks. Even though it smelled a bit fishy, in the end, we had fun together scrubbing pots and talking. Oh Halloween, two of our members did Trick-Or-Treat for UNICEF, going from door to door to ask for donations. Throughout the various people that we asked, the reactions ranged from, “Are you kidding?” to “That is an excellent cause.” By the end of two hours, we had collected just under fifty dollars. After asking some of our family and friends, our club was able to send in just over $90. Later that month also went out to buy and wrap presents for children who do not have enough financial support to receive gifts during the holidays. None of us knew what a challenge it would be to shop for presents but it was rewarding and I know that our time put in helped some boy or girl have a better holiday. We met other Key Clubbers from our county and built stronger bonds between high schoolers in our community. We hope that next year we will have a bigger club with just as much drive. One Key Club member’s story: It all started with my participation in the middle school band where I had one of the Updates on Scotts Valley nicest most amazing band conductors I could ever wish for. She gave us heads about music events and concerts happening in KeyupClub our community and in others. One event that caught my eye was Music at SkyPark, which was run by Kiwanis International and occurred during the summer. Three concerts spread out in three months starting from 10 to set up until 7 cleaning up. College students from the local university came by and helped and the field was packed with families coming over and dancing to the music. The college kids told us to join our high school Key Club and since I was helping Kiwanis, a wonderful organization, I decided to join Scotts Valley High School’s Key Club. Our club advisor told us that SV’s Key Club has been inactive for several years as the students graduated and no one picked it up. Being freshmen, it was hard for us to organize a club and we appreciate all the support from the other Key Clubbers who reached out and helped us. We are so glad to be part of a caring group of people and hope we can inspire other people to become strong leaders and selfless citizens.

EDITOR’S NOTE

Happy February!! We’re officially back into the grind of school and I couldn’t be more excited to finish this school year!! I hope your first month back to school was good and you’re not already procrastinating LOL. I’ve been keeping busy with making graphics and this newsletter, all alongside anticipating my birthday that was a couple days ago, hehe. As we inch closer and closer to the end of the term, I hope you all make the most out of it and contribute all you can. It’s important that we don’t lose sight of our individual goals/resolutions that might’ve been set last month but it’s also great to remember our division goals. MNT, DCON fundraising, and so much more can be done in these last days of the term so my point is, the service never stops!!! The nearing to the end of this term also means my time as Division News Editor is almost up. I’m sad I’ll be making my last newsletter soon but I hope everyone, if anyone, that reads these enjoyed them as much as I enjoyed making them through the term. I also hope everyone tunes in for the months and years to come. As always, thank you for submitting for and reading this issue!! See you in the next one! ( ˘▽˘)っ♨
