Words from the LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR

Hello Division 66, Can you believe that summer is already two-thirds of the way over? I’m sure that many of you have spent your summer days with friends and families and have been very busy. As many of us will be heading back to school in a few weeks, I think this would be a great time to reflect on what you have achieved this summer through service. Have you raised awareness about the Eliminate project? How many service hours have you done? Have you attended a summer area rally? If you haven’t yet made a difference, there is still plenty of time to change that. I challenge you to get out and impact your community in a way that will change someone’s life through small acts (ex. holding the door open, a simple hello, or smiling at someone). The 2013-2014 term is already a quarter of the way over! Time sure flies when you are having fun. Division 66 has accomplished so much because each and every one of you are Proud N’ Willing to serve. With one month of summer left, take this time to think about service projects for the fall and ways to recruit new Key Clubbers. There are many ways to make your club strive and prosper this coming school year. I can’t wait to see all the selfless acts that you will complete throughout the year. If you have any question or concerns, feel free to email me back with any suggestions. In love and service,

Emilee Huey

Relay For Life Recently on July 27, the Clackamas community joined forces at Happy Valley Park to celebrate cancer survivors, to remember those lost to cancer, and to raise funds in the fight against cancer for a Relay for Life event. The relay event is named so, because people sign up to form teams that walk around a track to raise money. Many businesses and groups took part in the relay, and each brought something unique. From jazzercise-ers to astronomers to pizza lovers, the relay event was able to bring together many various people to join forces against a common cause. One unique aspect of the event included the Survivors Lap, which is when the cancer survivors took the first lap around the track to rejoice of their defeating of cancer. Another unique aspect was the Luminary Ceremony, which at night, was an event when candle-lit bags glowed to honor those afflicted with cancer. The atmosphere was that of hope, love, and courage: Hope for a cure; love for one another; and courage for standing up against cancer. These are also the core reasons why the event is moving and inspirational. ~Edward Yan, IP CHS Key Club President

Roshni Chandwani PNW’s International Trustee Picture Credits to Nicole Harris

Hey everyone! My name is Roshni Chandwani, and I will be your International Trustee for the 2013 to 2014 service year. I joined Key Club my freshman year, and it was the best decision I’ve ever made! I’m currently a rising senior at Cypress Falls High School in Houston, Texas, and I’m also involved in Debate, Red Cross, and Student Council. In my free time, I love getting boba tea with my friends, listening to music, or watching TV shows (like Suits). This year, I want to be more accessible to club members and officers. As a Club President, I didn’t want to contact my trustee at the time because I thought she would be too busy to answer any of my questions, but that definitely is not the case. If any of you have questions or just want to say hi, feel free to shoot me an e-mail at roshni.chandwani.kc@gmail.com! Also, please join the Sister Districts Facebook Group: (http://tinyurl.com/kkttu53) to stay updated on everything Key Club related! Goals: 1. Improve Communication  Monthly four way calls with the District Governors  Monthly video/email update to all the district boards  Individual phone calls with each LTG at

10

least once per semester  Use Tinychat, Google Reflector, and Sister-Districts Facebook Page to endorse inner-district communication

 Promote Eliminate Project  Create flyers that will promote international topics  Increase awareness of the Youth Opportunities Fund through promotional material and working closely with interested LTGs

 3. Strengthen District Events

 Help individual Districts promote their conventions by creating launch plans and promotional videos.
