Yours in Caring Service, Bailey Chen 2015-2016 Lieutenant Governor or Division 66

Hi everyone! Unfortunately July is over, but it was a thrilling month for me!

I got to attend Portland Rally, which was my first ever rally. It was tons of fun and I learned a lot of new things! Thank you to everyone who came to support our division. Let's work hard to win the spirit stick next year! Portland Rally was not the only one I was a part of. I also went to Tacoma and Seattle Rally. These two rallies were also super exciting and unique! There's still a whole month left this summer, so let's continue to serve and make new memories! I hope everyone has a great rest of their summer! Brian Nguyen Divisional Assistant

It's already August! Time flies when you're having fun. I hope you guys are having an awesome summer. July was full of exciting events. There was the Portland Rally which was great seeing everyone get together and have fun. There was also Seattle Rally. Unfortunately I couldn't go but I hope those who did had a blast. Summer is time for fun but also service. So fight through the heat and help those around you. I'm looking forward to what you guys do next. Have a great August! Rachel Coyne Divisional Editor

PORTLAND AREA RALLY 2015

MADE IN OREGON On July 11th, 2015, Key Clubbers around the Portland Area came together to learn more about Key Club and participate in many forums and activities. Division 66 brought the most people, and your enthusiastic cheers and participation brought the spirit into the room.

6

“Going to the Portland rally, I didn't know what to expect. I heard about it from the Key Club DCMs and became curious when it was called a "mini DCON." At that time, I didn't even know what DCON was either, but anyway, after DCON passed, more DCMs came and they always talked about the Rally. I decided to participate and in my opinion, it wasn't really much of a smaller version of DCON. Sure there are workshops, but the smaller crowd changes the environment totally. This allows nearby divisions to actually know each other and bond (since at DCON, there are so many key clubbers, divisions, and Kiwanians; it's hard to keep track of the new friends you make!). I personally liked the fact that you got to bond with clubbers that belonged to nearby divisions. The experience was well worth going and I enjoyed almost every part. I said almost… because we were left starving for maybe 30-45 minutes before the food came”Benzamin Dang, Clackamas High School

RECAP “I am still new to Key Club so I thought this rally was very helpful. The forums taught some good tips, and it was great meeting some fellow Key Clubbers from all over Oregon (even a few from Washington). It was fun screaming with our Division for the Spirit Stick even though we didn’t win. Basically it was a really cool experience!” –Phet Pitsnukanh, Centennial High School

MEMBER OF THE MONTH VERONICA VILLEGAS REYNOLDS KEY CLUB “Veronica Villegas, the big boss: our president! Every meeting she came more than prepared with a full agenda and countless ideas. She also provided pens and papers for the officers who did not bring note-taking material. As this year's president, she has most definitely stepped up to the plate. With her leadership skills and strong mind, this upcoming year will be one to remember.

MESSAGE FROM YOUR INTERNATIONAL TRUSTEE

DEVIN SUN Hello, Pacific Northwest District Board! My name is Devin Sun, and I am honored to introduce myself as your new International Trustee. This year, I will be serving the Carolinas, Missouri-Arkansas, and Pacific Northwest Districts. I cannot wait to see what we will accomplish together! As your International Trustee, my job consists not only of communication and correspondence on the International Board, but also to work alongside our three sister districts. During my term as International Trustee, I will make sure to keep you informed on the occurrences of Key Club International. In addition, I will work to foster a strong relationship between our three sister districts to encourage the synergistic exchange of ideas across Key Club International. And I also want to establish myself as a resource to you for any and all questions, comments, or concerns that you may have. If you have anything at all that you would like to see from me, please do not hesitate to let me know! I have created a Facebook group for our sister districts to use to communicate throughout the year so that we can unite as true sister districts! Furthermore, I will also be creating a Slack group for our sister districts; I will be sending out another email with more details on Slack in the next week or so. With Slack, district boards from our three sister districts can come together for insightful discussion. In this way, board members from each district will be able to help others on common issues that others may be facing or even just to bounce ideas off of one another. I feel that the exchange of ideas is very important and can be very beneficial for everyone. If, at any time for any reason you

want to contact me, please do not hesitate to reach out to me by email or by phone at 908.315.6207. Also, please feel free to find me on Facebook and Twitter! I am so excited to be working with you all this year, so get ready for a fun and exciting service year! I have also attached a quick introduction article about myself. Please feel free to use it in your next newsletter!

Yours in caring and service, Devin Sun Key Club International Trustee

MESSAGE FROM YOUR INTERNATIONAL PRESIDENT

RIP LIVINGSTON

18

Greetings, Key Club members! Just a few weeks ago, our organization convened in Indianapolis for our annual International Convention alongside Circle K and Kiwanis International as we celebrated Kiwanis’ centennial birthday. It was an unforgettable experience for all, and that week, I was fortunate enough to be elected President of Key Club International. As International President, my job is to lead our organization for the next year; to set the vision of what Key Club is, should be, and will be; to supervise and work with your 11 International Trustees, ensuring that they serve and work with your district properly; to unite all 33 districts under our common mission, and to do everything in my power to leave this organization better than I found it when I leave office in 2016. Key Club has an exciting year ahead of it! We’re entering the last decade of our first 100 years. We’re working everyday to make membership larger, stronger, and an experience that leaves all 270,000 satisfied. As a Key Club member, you’ve chosen to be a part of something greater than yourself. Greater than your home club, your division, or even your district; you’ve chosen to be one of the thousands of hands Key Club International unites for the greater good around the word. As the saying goes, “United we stand; Divided we fall”: Let’s unite, Key Club. We’re a global network of smart, inspired, capable servant leaders. Can you imagine what we can do when we come together?

It’s an honor to be your leader this year. I wish you the very best in all of your endeavors this school year Key Club and otherwise and thank you sincerely for being a Key Clubber. Let’s have a fantastic year! Best regards, Rip Livingston President, Key Club International rlivingston@alabamakeyclub.org

MESSAGE FROM YOUR INTERNATIONAL VICE PRESIDENT

ADDIE CLIPFELL

20

Hello Key Clubbers! I’m so role as Vice President is often one of ambiguity but I hope to change that this year. This year I will be working on many things including: chairing the Committee for Service and YOF, being a liaison to the Western Canada district, writing a monthly blog, reading governor monthly reports, serving on the executive committee, and much more. If you have any questions about my role this year, please feel free to ask! Some fun facts about me are that I play the violin, I work at Old Navy, I love Sudoku, I have a dog named Roxy, and I absolutely love Key Club. Well, you knew that last one right? I truly hope I can inspire and aid all of you in sparking an enthusiasm for Key Club in your members. This is extremely important to create long lasting connections and it is key to keeping members in the k-family. Also, I hope all of your unique clubs continue to do amazing service in the upcoming year and share that with me along the way! Most importantly I want you to know that while I hold the office of I.V.P, I’m still a regular teenager. I think history is boring, stress about college applications, fangirl over Fall Out Boy, supporter, a source of encouragement, and a Vice President all wrapped into one. So, with that once again feel free to contact me anytime. My contact info is below. I can’t wait to have an amazing year of service!
