MESSAGE FROM

LIEUTEN

Happy New Year, Division 66! 2014 sure was an amazing year! For some, it was the first year they entered high school and Key Club. For others, it marked the beginning of an end. No matter where you stand—perhaps somewhere in between, I hope your year has been filled with Key Club and tons and tons of hours of service! With 2015 upon us, let us reflect on the past to prepare for a better future. Let us make tangible goals to make our homes, schools, and communities better places. Will you devote 10 hours to service? 25? 50? 100? Will you donate $1.80 to save a mother and her future babies from MNT? How about saving 3 babies? 5

ELECTION RALLY On December 21st, 2014, Bailey Chen was elected the Lieutenant Governor Elect of Division 66. Shout out to Patrick Le for also running this year! Also, thank you to all 90+ people in attendance for your proper dress, pressing questions, and support. Here’s to a great term, Division 66!

BAILEY CHEN

Hello my fellow Giraffes, I hope the new year started out well! I am honored to be elected to serve Division 66 as the 2015-2016 Lieutenant Governor. I look forward to meeting many of you and to continue to build Division 66 to the best of my abilities. Please do not hesitate to ask me any questions at all, I’m glad to help! I started Key Club due to pure passion for service at Franklin High School. I didn’t know Key Club would impact me as greatly as it did, and I am happy that it did. Key Club grew led me to become an outgoing, confident, and happy person. I enjoy every event I attend and I can see Key Clubbers growing passion for service. After moving to Clackamas High School, I was elected Vice President and this led me to many opportunities. I love seeing the smiles on people’s faces when we are able to help them and it is one of the reasons why I am passionate about service. Besides spending my time in Key Club, I enjoy watching Korean dramas, listening to music, hanging out with friends, travelling, and doing miscellaneous activities here and there. I love to be involved and to help others, I am truly excited for the upcoming term! Thank you for electing me to be your Lieutenant Governor! Don’t worry, I will be there to lend you a hand in case you fall while going up the steps! In love and service,

Bailey Chen Lieutenant Governor Elect of Division 66 Pacific Northwest District Key Club International baileychenpnw@gmail.com

THE “STEPS”

S T E P S

OLVE: I will try to solve the problems that may occur or offer solutions to different problems. Not only will I try to solve divisional problems, but I will try to resolve club problems if any occur.

ALK: Communication is key to a successful relationship between the district and club. I will try my best to serve as a liaison between them to ensure information are being passed along. DUCATE: I will inform officers their responsibilities so they can put their best effort into their positions. Along with that, I will teach members about what Key Club really is and our passion for service. LAN: My goal is to plan efficiently by looking into the small details, keeping organized, and being informed so I am able to answer any questions that may be asked.

ERVE: Key club’s destination is service, and it is why Key Club exists. I will emphasize the importance of service so each club is able to serve to their best of their abilities.

JANUARY 31ST

INTERNANTIONAL TR HAPPY 2015, PACIFIC NORTHWEST! I’m so glad that we have finally made it. After a swamped first semester of school, a myriad of Key Club events, and a relaxing holiday vacation, I’m sure you all are so excited to welcome in the New Year. A lot of people see this this month as a time of resolutions. However, I think it can better be characterized as a time to reflect and look forward to the future. What awesome things have you all done so far with your time in Key Club? How will you make the most of the rest of this year? Thus far, I have seen Key Clubbers do some spectacular things. Shout out to Tasmia Ahmed and her division for collecting 70 gift cards for sex trafficked survivors in Portland. Shout out to the Communications Committee for completely renovating the face of the Pacific-Northwest district website. Shout out to Kevin Zhang for bringing the “bowl” to #palabowlo. These Key Clubbers have inspired us to do great things. What’s even more exciting is that there’s still so much to come. Whether it’s participating in “Service to Infinity and Beyond” at the 2015 District Convention or finally reaching our goal for The Eliminate Project, the coming months have much in store. Don’t feel the need to make new resolutions; your passion for service, leadership, and camaraderie will naturally take the district to new heights this 2015. In terms of the international level, there are several items we can anticipate together. First of all, 2015 is our year to eliminate maternal/neonatal tetanus (MNT) from the face of the planet! We’re taking things to a whole new level. The International Board has its own personal pen fundraiser (I’m bringing them to DCON!), and if all of Key Club International can raise an additional $80,000, board members will be kissing an octopus at our winter board meeting. (Yes, I’m very scared. But I do it fo’ da Eliminate!) For clarity, our winter board meeting will be held in Detroit, Michigan, from January 22 to 25, 2015. The board meeting agenda has already been posted to the Key

RUSTEE, TASHRIMA HOSSAIN Club website. If you have any questions, or if you’d like me to bring an additional topic to the board, don’t hesitate to reach out. Finally, with this year’s International Convention swiftly approaching, it’s definitely an event we can eagerly look forward to. Held from June 24 to 28, 2015, in Indianapolis, the home of Key Club International headquarters, this will be an experience you don’t want to miss. As it is the 100th anniversary of Kiwanis, a lot of our programs will be held in conjunction with Circle K and Kiwanis members, making for a whopping estimate of 12,000 attendees. We have some awesome events planned; we’ll be renting out an entire street of Indianapolis, Hellogoodbye will be performing, and we’ll be surrounded by tons of fun things to do (i.e. free museums, bikes to ride around the city, zoos, etc.). It’s the event of a lifetime, so start fundraising and planning now! Indeed, 2014 may have brought much positivity and joy –especially in Key Club International— but I’m sure 2015 can offer even more. Have a great year, everyone!
