Words from the LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR

Hello Division 66, There are officially less than 25 days until the 2013-2014 Key Club term is over. Let’s make the most of the last few days that we have and end our terms on a positive note. There is a lot you can accomplish in this little time: let’s take even more action and impact our community one last time. It has been a pleasure and honor to serve as your Lieutenant Governor. Key Clubbers, Officers, Boardies, Kiwanians, and others: you are the reason that I serve and push myself to be the best I can be for you all. When times got tough throughout my term, I remembered why I became Lieutenant Governor, because YOU all have inspired me by impacting your community for the better. I am proud of all the work that you guys have done this past year. You’ve soared past my expectations and brought pure warmth to my heart with your acts of service. To see the growth you all have had is a blessing. Thank you all for your services and time you’ve put into Key Club. Lastly, thank you for all the laughs, smiles, tears, and great memories. I know all of you will do great things in the future.

4

I’ll leave you with this: Remember, we are the change. Together we can accomplish the impossible, and let’s end our term with a bang. “Caring – Our way of Life.” In love and service,

Emilee Huey

Division 66 Lieutenant Governor

Advice for Advice for Key Clubbers: 1) Talk to your officers about ways they can improve the club. 2) Pay your dues on time. 3) Stay professional. Represent Key Club well. 4) Go to District Convention (DCON) as many times as you can! 5) Make the most of each and every moment you have in Key Club. You have only, at most, four years in this great organization. I promise you that you’ll miss it a lot once you graduate. If not, you’re not spending your time in Key Club right! :) Advice for Key Club Officers 1) Stay organized 2) Know all deadlines. MEET all deadlines. 3) Communicate with your Lieutenant Governor and ask him/her for help. 4) Pay your club’s dues on time. 5) Strive to leave a legacy behind. Be known for improving your club for the better. You have only so much time to make an impact in your club. Make the most of every opportunity (be it volunteering, pursuing your passions, etc). For example, dive into service, run for a leadership position, and most importantly, enjoy what you’re doing. The lessons you learn, the people you meet, and the experiences you gain are invaluable, and will be a big part of you, as you continually grow and develop. Helping others, and pursing your passions, doesn’t end after these four years are over. As my outtie once told me, “once a Key Clubber, always a Key Clubber!” You can inspire and make a difference no matter where you go. Just go out and serve! -Edward Yan

3

Never be afraid to try service projects or fundraisers that seem intimidating, you only have 4 years to be in Key Club so enjoy all of the moments you have and make tons of friends. -Brooke Reichert

22

Always be positive during any Key Club events! We all represent Division 66 & our individual clubs and it is crucial that we behave accordingly. However, with so much spirit during any Key Club event, it always seems like a party! -Lauren Phan

Key Clubbers The best advice I give to an incoming member is to get involved early! There is an infinite amount of opportunities in Key Club, and when your four years of Key Club have come to an end, you’ll wish you could go back in time and take advantage of all that Keu Club has to offer! Advice for a current member is to definitely step outside of your comfort zone. If you challenge yourself and push your limits, Key Club will allow you to grow immensely as a human being. Advice for the officers, put 100% effort into each and every assignment, and cherishes every single moment of your term. -Alyssa Godfrey Always take advantage of all of the opportunities that Key Club offers at the divisional, district, and even international level! Whether you choose to participate in a global service project or serve in a leadership position, you can make a positive impact on our community. -Eric Grewal Your time in Key Club will fly by so fast, so take advantage of your opportunities now. Try new projects, become more involved in the division, run for leadership positions! You will never regret trying so make the best of your experience. Most importantly, don't let the service leadership you learned throughout Key Club go to waste after high school. Serve and lead on as adults! Once a Key Clubber, always a Key Clubber. -Hakikat Bains Do werk cuz werk needs to bee done; learn to twerk cuz twerk gets werk done. -Chester Pham

I would advise any secretary to stay very organized and always keep up on all paperwork. If you get behind it is almost impossible to catch up. Plus it makes the clubs run more efficiently and you will love your job more. Also, don't ever be afraid to ask for help! Your fellow officers in club and out of club will always be there to help you! -Kaitlyn Franklin

Take pride in the work you do in key club, and never forget the impact you have, whenever you volunteer at any event. I hope that others will realize this and be inspired to immerse themselves in the key club experience, because you will come out of it a more compassionate, social, hard-working, and virtuous person. -Arthur Bookstein

23

All the Key Clubbers are my inspirations! They motivate me to work hard, be a better leader, and strive for the best in all that we do. Without them, I would be nothing—I wouldn’t have Key Clubbers to lead, I wouldn’t have people at service projects, I wouldn’t be the person I am today. Thank you, Key Clubbers, for making me the greatest person I can be! My inspiration as Lieutenant Governor Elect is none other than LtG. Emilee Huey. Through all the hardships of her term, she has fought through to end her term strong. I cannot thank her enough for the experience as Divisional Editor and for being the most supportive outtie. Emilee has always strived for the best in the division and has worked so hard to be there for everyone. Emilee Huey, I can say no more than thank you and I hope I do as well as you have as Lieutenant Governor of our division. –Brian Le Arthur B. and Brian L. are the people who inspire me in Key Club because of the amount of effort and motivate they out into this club is amazing. I remember seeing people slacking during several service projects and Arthur was indeed very irritated that people aren’t working but he didn’t yell at them, instead he talked to them in a very compassionate manor and it actually made that group of people get back to work.

Everyone in Division 66 inspires me! Last term was so much fun, and we all made a difference to our community through our incredibly fun events, it's like you're not even doing community service! -Lauren Phan

24

Wadsana, my grand outtie cuz she was super amazin! -Chester Pham

All of the divisional and district officers inspire me. Sometimes when I am trying to get all of my work for my club done, I'm stressed and I think "I had no idea it was this much work!". Then I remember how much work you all do to keep us all functioning! Thanks for all of your hard work! -Kaitlyn Franklin

Emilee inspired me with her strength. There were many struggles during her term in spite of these obstacles she continuously works hard. Div.66 is a large division and from personal experience small division are hard to manage; I cannot imagine what it would be like to be in charge of such a large division. I am so amazed by how well you grew your division and how pretty your newsletters are. -Shirley Chou

Dan Li inspired me to join Key Club because she has this amazing passion to help others and she has this intense amount of joy to help others and it made me want to join key Club. -Katie Luc

Division 66 inspires me, because you all REACH OUT and make a difference. -Hakikat Bains

This year’s Key Club group. I love seeing them show up to every event. A lot of them have true altruism, and I’m glad there are people like that in our group. They have great mentality: volunteer to help, and not for the hours. They’re what inspire me to continue volunteering. -Peter Le When I was in middle school, my friend was in KC and told me how it was a service organization. It sounded pretty appealing to me at the time. But then over the summer I volunteered at this summer camp for people with mental disabilities called Camp Parkview, and that experience is what compelled me to actually join. -Josh Kim Photo Credit to Brian Le

One (of my many) favorite service project is Apple Festival. For two weekends, four days, and 7 shifts, Key Clubbers from Clackamas went to the Portland Nursery to face-paint kids’ faces for free during its annual Apple Festival. My favorite part of this project was the simple joy we brought to each kid who stopped by. Despite our amateur facepainting skills, the kids left our booth with joy. I loved seeing that such a small act—simply a face-paint— could make a kids’ day brighter. The parents were impressed by the work we do in the community as committed young individuals. It is an event that I will always cherish. -Brian Le

My favorite event is UCP because it’s an amazing feeling to know that everyone there from the volunteers to the participates have come to support one another in completing the walk around downtown Portland. Also, it is very inspiring to see the kids and adults who have cerebral palsy smiling because they show is that instead of focusing on the bad parts in life we should enjoy it and make the best of it. -Sydnie Chen My favorite service project of the year is making Stocking Stuffers during Christmas season because we’re able to interact with so many gibing members in our community and help make some child nearby smile with something as simple as a full stocking. -Andrea Monteblanco

26

I like the apple festival, because it’s a lot of fun and face painting is fun too. The kids don’t really care about how good you are and in the end they’re always happy with what they get, so they’re the reason why this even would be my favorite. -Jarvis Chow Photo Credits to Brian Le and Edward Yan

My favorite memory this year, was witnessing and experiencing, first hand, the growth in our communities leaders. For example, I’m proud to see so many excited and devoted volunteers in our strong division. Each and every one of you are leaders. You all bring something unique to each service event, as well as your great personalities, energy, and eagerness, to make a positive difference. And shoutout to Clackamas Key Club for all your hard work this past year! You all have continually exemplified our motto of “it’s all about helping others” through your kind actions, not only through service projects, but also through life outside of Key Club. Getting to know you all has been an honor. Keep on serving and keep on helping others! -Edward Yan I have two favorite memories with this division! One was being asked to prom by Edward and Brian at Seattle rally and another was coming up with the ever so famous giraffe pose with Emilee. -Hakikat Bains

My favorite events are Homeless Feeds because I can see how I help those in need. Raising money and donating items are very helpful to them but directly severing them food is satisfying and their sincere smiles reminds me of why I volunteer – to help others. -Stephanie Chan

My favorite memory from this year was volunteering at Winter Rage! It was my first time, and it definitely made my day seeing tons of families faces lights up when they were picking out clothes, presents, and receiving food! -Lauren Phan My favorite memories are those made at DCMs. Although it is not a service project, I enjoy learning about other clubs and what they are doing and to be able to bond with other clubs. They are so fun! My other favorite memory was adoption the Oxford house for Christmas and giving the children gifts. It was very touching and meaningful for all of us and it was a great time helping them meet santa and decorate for Christmas in ways they would not have been able to without us. -Kaitlyn Franklin
