GREETINGS Hey Division 66! Boy does time fly. It’s hard to believe that one month has already passed since I started my term as your Lieutenant Governor, submitted my first Lieutenant Governor’s Report, and released my first newsletter. In just one month, I have seen a lot of potential for growth and success within our division. Everyone that I have talked to was extremely kind, friendly, and passionate to serve—all we must do now is use this passion to execute projects, ideas, and service. Before I go any further, I would like to thank all the Kiwanians who have helped me this past month. You all have reminded me that us Key Clubbers are extremely fortunate to have such caring people advising us and helping us through our troubles. Thank you for helping me get started with my term as I try to get everything organized for the upcoming year. Thank you, Division 66 Kiwanians. Also, I’d like to give a virtual pat on the back to all the officers who have kept in the contact with me and fulfilled their duties. Without leaders like you, Key Club would cease to exist. Keep up the good work! I hope to see many of you at the May DCM this month. We will be volunteering at the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Water Station. Not only is this a great opportunity for you all to serve the community, it is a great opportunity for me to get to know you as well as for you to get to know other Key Clubbers from around the area, including Division 66 AND Division 62! With May comes the exciting thought of summer quickly approaching. I wish you all the best of luck with finishing the year strong. If you are an AP student, good luck with your AP exams. Once this busy season is over, don’t forget to continue serving the community! I hope to see you all every soon. As always, contact me with any questions or concerns!

Yours In Caring Service,

Brian Le 2014-2015 Lieutenant Governor of Division 66

“Brave” by Sara Bareilles For most of us, being servant leaders of our community can sometimes put us in situations that we are not comfortable with; however, I know that all of us have the potential to be amazing leaders and to change this world. All it takes is a little bravery:

“Let your words be anything but empty. Why don't you tell them the truth? Say what you wanna say; and let the words fall out. Honestly I wanna see you be brave.” Make your words meaningful. Stand up for what is right. Take charge in your community. Whatever you do, stay brave and believe in yourself.

CLUB SPOTLIGHT During the month of April Clackamas Key Club has had 5 events; 2 Feed the Hungry, a carnival at an elementary school, the April DCM, and the NCEF auction dinner. As a club we attend around 2 Feed the Hungry every month and they always go well. We had around 50 people go to the carnival. Our members always sign up for carnivals very quickly and they always have a great time. The NCEF auction dinner went incredible! The adults there were extremely kind and helpful. They made sure we knew how to perform our task without getting frustrated. I think if we could continue helping at this event both parties would be happy. -Hung Le, Clackamas Key Club Bulletin Editor Clackamas Key Club also sponsored UCP Swim, where members helped out and assisted children with Cerebral Palsy enjoy a swim. PHOTO CREDIT: LOUIZA BOAVAEVA

Corbett Key Club has been coasting Through these last few months of school. This month we secured our visits to Wynwood for every 3rd Friday of the month. We have also set up an event for May called “Kiss a Senior Goodbye." Anyone in the school can buy a $1 package with 3 Hershey kisses and a note for any senior they want. For any leftover seniors that don't get a package, Key Club will send one to them. Since there probably won't be a profit from this, we won't be able to donate anywhere but the event is really for saying goodbye to the seniors. -Chloe Ballard, Corbett Key Club Bulletin Editor

WHAT’S POPPIN’ IN

March of Dimes: MARCH FOR ABOUT MARCH OF DIMES

IN PORTLAND

“The mission of the March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality.” 1 in 9 babies will be born mature in the United States, meaning that the United States has one of the highest rates for premature babies in more developed countries.

HOW KEY CLUB HELPS

In 2011 alone, Key Clubbers around the world raised $116,000. Key Club raises awareness about the cause, especially in November for Prematurity Awareness Month and in the spring for the March of Babies.

8

March of Dimes' March for Babies was a huge success. With everyone's efforts, Key Club or not, the organization raised a total of $450,000 in Portland. The march of either 3k or 10k helped raised money for mothers' and babies' health, so through this event, we have assisted in ensuring safe pregnancies and the outcome of healthy babies and mothers. Thank you to everyone who came out that day! This just goes to show you that you can always make a significant impact simply by volunteering your time for others. Let's keep up the amazing work, Key Clubbers! -Victoria Bui, President of Benson Key Club, Division 62

N PNW

R BABIES IN SEATTLE On April 26, 2014, three clubs from Division 21 Key Club participated in the March for Babies at Edmonds City Park! March for Babies is considered to be one of the oldest charity walks in the nation, according to March of Dimes. There is an estimate of 1 million participants each year who walk in over 900 communities in order to help raise money to help improve future of babies! The money from March for Babies is used on research and programs to prevent premature births and birth defects! Not only did part of Division 21 participate in the March for Babies at Edmonds City Park, but we also participated in the March for Babies at the Seattle Center on May 3, 2014! Both events were extremely fun to be part of! It was a pleasure to have gotten the opportunity to work with one of the preferred charities of Key Club International! -Selina Nguyen, LtG of Division 21
