DCON 2018 CON DISTRICT RECAP & HIGHLIGHTS Three weeks ago, the Oregon Convention Center hosted 40 divisions across the Pacific Northwest to attend DCON 2018! There, District Treasurer, Brian Nguyen, and Division 66’s Lieutenant Governor, Reanna Le, retired after completing their final term in the PNW District Key Club. Accompanying their retirement is the induction of me as Lieutenant Governor of Division 66 and the new District Editor/my best friend, Julie Lely,. Retirement and induction isn’t the only thing that happened at DCON, though. My home club Clackamas High School secured 4 awards at closing session. Those include 6 for 65 (6+ members with 65+ hours each), Club Website Contest, Single-Service Project Contest (Go Winter Rage!) and the Talent Contest (thanks to seniors Tommy Pham, Daniel Kim, Brian Lee, and Preston Yeh). Along with this, Division 66 sent over 100 attendees to this year’s DCON, and was even featured on the Key Club International Twitter account! Great job, Giraffes! If you couldn’t make it to this year’s DCON, you can always go next year with the help of a scholarship or as an alumni .

EXPERIENCE

4

During my time at DCON, I found the true meaning of being a Key Clubber. Before attending DCON, I would volunteer at events and I honestly only went because my friends were going. Now, I genuinely want to go to these events in order to help others to maybe someday change the world. I transformed from simply a member of Key Club to a real Key Clubber. Before DCON I wasn’t very confident about who I was or what I knew, but after the weekend at DCON, I feel forever changed by my experiences as a member of the best Division in the Pacific Northwest. From Divisional chants to spirit battles, I began to feel a sense of belonging. When closing session came and Julie was announced District Editor of the Pacific Northwest District, I had never felt so proud. Screaming at the top of my lungs, I was DCONinspired. Seeing my friends Julie and Daniel accomplish so much made me want to do the same.

NVENTION 2018 AWARDS WEBSITE This year at DCON, Division 66’s Clackamas High School took home the win for best website! Our new District Editor Julie Lely and I collaborated together in order to achieve this. Previously having no web design experience, we managed to give the interface an aesthetic new makeover through hours of hard work and dedication!

SERVICE PROJECT Clackamas Key Club won platinum in the Single Service Project Award! As the biggest service project in the PNW, over 200 members worked to provide for hundreds of local families; clocking in over 3,700 hours of service! Making up the Winter Rage Committee, Clackamas Key Club CoPresidents Julie Lely and Karla Leung, along with former D66 LtG Reanna Le did an amazing job with club tradition, bringing home the award.

TALENT SHOW Congratulations to Tommy Pham, Daniel Kim, Brian Lee, and Preston Yeh from Clackamas High School on the 2018 PNW DCON Talent Show win! These boys performed alongside talented finalists, but their hard work and killer KPoP moves really set them above the rest and won them the hearts of many. Their act definitely flipped the convention upside down and ended our District Convention on a high note.

MESSAGE FROM YOUR LT.G. DANIEL HUYNH FIRST WORDS Hey Giraffes,

LAST WORDS

It feels surreal to be your Lieutenant Governor. I would just like to thank you all for giving me such an amazing opportunity to serve such a group of dedicated members. I am currently a Junior at Clackamas High School and I can’t believe I have come this far into my Key Club journey. I remember almost missing the deadline to pay for Key Club dues my freshman year, but thanks to Brenda Ramirez-Sanchez letting me borrow $18, I was able to buy my ticket into a life changing experience. Although I never envisioned myself as Lieutenant Governor, I always knew Key Club was where I belonged. It wasn’t until sophomore year when I decided to run for officer that truly deepened my love for Key Club. And because I was scared to run at first, I dragged my BFF Julie Lely to run with me. To our surprise, we both won officer positions: Julie as Co-President and me as Bulletin Editor. The Key Club board had become my second family and it breaks my heart that Karla, Maggie, Jawan and Benzamin will be leaving Julie and I to go off to college; they are some of the most compassionate and caring people I have met. And before I forget, I would like to thank Reanna Le and Brian Nguyen. Reanna will forever be my mom and I will never forget the shenanigans we did during free period, our pre-DCM boba runs, and getting to embarrass her every opportunity I got. As for Brian, I knew him as Bao for the first 3 years, but I will always remember his wavy personality and witty remarks while sitting next to him in AP Environmental. These individuals have made my Key Club experience truly memorable and I can’t thank them all enough going into my term. In care and service, Daniel Huynh Lieutenant Governor of Division 66 Pacific Northwest District Key Club International

FAREWELL AUSTIN SAYACHITCH IMMEDIATE PAST DIVISIONAL ASSISTANT

LAST WORDS Hello fellow Key Clubbers, The time has finally come where I retire as executive assistant of division 66. First I'd like to give a special shout-out to our immediate past lieutenant governor, Reanna Le. She was the person who pushed me to apply for the position and I have to say that it really changed my life for the better. Because of her I was able to grow as a leader and transform me into a person who was once super shy into a person who is more outgoing. Reanna's passion for Key Club truly rubbed off on me and made me realize that I was apart of something great. Thank you for being such a big part of my experience through all the memories we were able to create, from Reanna's DCM's to DCON. This term has truly been an unforgettable experience, being able to meet so many of you! Although it makes me sad, I'm excited to see how our division strives forward towards greater heights! I know that Daniel will be able to build off of the foundation set by previous LTGs. As for what happens next, I'll still be attending as many events as possible, so feel free to approach me. Time flies, as I'll be graduating very soon, so this is me signing off for the final time.

LAST WORDS

I love you all. and peace out, Austin Sayachith Immediate Past Executive Assistant Division 66 Key Club International

FAREWELL REANNA LE IMMEDIATE PAST Lt.G. OF DIVISION 66

LAST WORDS To my wonderful giraffe family, To think, two years ago (April 2016), I applied to the divisional editor position not realizing the journey it would set me on. I am beyond thankful for the wonderful opportunities and unforgettable memories I’ve created throughout my term as DE and LTG. I say this for all the clubs of our division, when I say you’ve helped me become a greater leader. Every single member is to be thanked for the success of Division 66 this year. From welcoming me to your clubs with open arms, dying from pollen at my first DCM, to chanting your hearts out at District Convention, every single giraffe has made a lasting impression on their community and our division. But we can’t forget the impression you all made on me. When I was in elementary school, Key Clubbers volunteered at our annual winter carnival every year. It was because of their willingness to serve and bring smiles to everyone’s faces that I joined Key Club. From hearing all the laughs during awkward icebreakers to smiles in our group photos, you’ve all helped me reach my main goal: to make those around me happy. With that, I thank you all for allowing me serve as your Lieutenant Governor and helping me achieve my goals. Lastly, I may no longer be your Lieutenant Governor but don’t hesitate to contact me if you have questions, or just want to talk about random things. With that said, it’s time to wrap up my final post. I love you all and thank you for joining me on our division’s journey to greater heights.

FAREWELL BRIAN NGUYEN IMMEDIATE PAST DISTRICT TREASURER AND PAST Lt.G. OF DIVISION 66

LAST WORDS Hey Giraffes, For the past three years, I’ve had the wonderful opportunity of serving as your Divisional Executive Assistant, Lieutenant Governor, and District Treasurer. As graduation approaches, I am reminded repeatedly of everything that Division 66 has given me. When I began serving as Bailey Chen’s executive assistant, I didn’t expect my high school life to change as much as it has. Key Club changed me for the better. Although it is cliché, I can assure you 100% that Key Club is the reason I’ve become the outgoing and opportunistic person that I am today. I’ve met countless people from across the Pacific Northwest and I’ll never regret going further into this club. My Key Club journey, specifically in our division, introduced me to many amazing Kiwanians who always provided mental, emotional, and physical support. Most importantly, they always reassured my that I was doing alright, and that was what I needed to keep serving all of you. You, the Key Clubbers of Division 66, have shown me that we can put aside our differences – whether it be what school we go to, what sports we play, or even what service project we do, we can always come back together as a division. That truly made me feel at home. After everything I’ve experienced, I will always be grateful towards everyone I met and I’m glad that I served alongside all of you. Thank you.

DISTRICT GOVERNOR INGRID REDFORD Hello, Pacific Northwest! My name is Ingrid Redford and I am both honored and humbled to be your 2018-2019 District Governor. Key Club has the ability to make an impact on hundreds of thousands of people. Over the past year, our district contributed over 92,000 service hours through our service to our homes, schools, and communities. As Key Clubbers, we make not only a large impact on our world, but also on individuals. With this being said, Key Club has shaped me into the person I am today and has taught me the value of service, leadership, and commitment. I plan to utilize my experience and insight as a member, club secretary, lieutenant governor, committee chair, and now, a District Governor, to implement growth and expand our district. My goals for this year are centered around a five-part plan that will advance our district progress through communication, resources, enhancing knowledge, growth, and leadership. These goals are focused on the inverted pyramid structure of Key Club, placing the emphasis on how we as a district can further serve our members, while fulfilling the mission of Key Club: service. Myself, along with the other Executive Officers, are here to serve you and want to hear voices from throughout our district. If you ever have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to me or the other Executive Officers. We are just a text, message, call, or email away. Thank you and I look forward to meeting, talking, and working with you throughout the year! DISTRICT SECRETARY BRANDON ORICK Greetings, PNW! My name is Brandon Orick, and I’ll be serving as your 2018-2019 District Secretary. I am beyond excited to engage in this position and grow this coming year. I believe my past experience as Lieutenant Governor of Division 70 has equipped me with the skills necessary to fulfill my position on the Executive Board. By utilizing monthly Secretary Reports to pinpoint specific issues that individual clubs are facing, the Executive Board can formulate strategies to help address these concerns. Serving as your secretary, I will act as a liaison between your club and the PNW District. I will work to insure that each club in need of assistance is heard and their issues are addressed. Through Key Club, I have learned the true meaning of service, and the true meaning of caring for one another. As secretary, I will be able to work closely with individual clubs and even individual members, creating strong relationships. I want to focus on being accessible to anyone who needs information or assistance, ultimately bridging the gap between the district and club level. I will strive to keep bettering the organization that has given me so much. In Key Club, no goal is too high and opportunities are endless. I am inspired by Key Clubbers on a daily basis and am ecstatic to be able to work alongside you for this next year. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me, I am willing to help any way I can! DISTRICT TREASURER ANDY HE Hello, PNW! My name is Andy He and I am beyond excited to serve as your 2018-2019 District Treasurer! I believe that having served as club treasurer for my own Key Club has given me the skills and the confidence to assist and lead treasurers across our great District. Throughout this year, I hope to set up a network of communications between myself and all club treasurers, enabling the sharing of successful strategies and tips so that we may all better execute the duties of treasurer. One of my main goals is to structure the role of a club treasurer to encompass three core areas: basic duties, fundraising, and membership. Some of the basic duties of a club treasurer include a detailed understanding of the dues-paying process, the chartering process of a club, and maintaining the club budget. Fundraising tasks would involve utilizing available resources to enhance the quality of service projects and fundraisers, or even applying for a PNWOF grant through the District. Finally, the membership component of a treasurer's role incorporates analyzing club strategies for active member involvement, club growth through recruitment, and discussing ways to boost membership retention with other club officers. Please remember that I am always here as a resource for all of your questions and concerns throughout this whole year. I know that dues season for treasurers can get very hectic, so please do not hesitate to reach out to me to request guidance on specific issues, offer tips, or if you just want to talk in general. Here’s to a fantastic year ahead! In Friendship and Service, Andy He District Treasurer Pacific Northwest District Key Club International Email: treasurer@pnwkeyclub.org Phone: (509)-201-7977
