SITE area : 900M2 The residence has been designed as a weekend retreat FOR A FAMILY OF FOUR near chandigarh. THE CONCEPT WAS TO KEEP THE PLANNING VERNACULAR AND MINIMAL, TO MAKE IT MODEST AND COMFORTABLE, SOMETHING THAT IS MISSING IN THE HUSTLE OF CITY LIFE. THE PLAY OF LIGHT AND SHADOW IS DONE TO CREATE HIGHLIGHTS. openings have been emphasised through use of colours and materials.
light-wells have been provided in the dining and staircase area, resulting in naturally lit spaces during daytime.

ANDC is a design trophy under the qualifying competitions for NASA*. The idea of this year’s competition was to find derelict spaces in your city and convert them into a universe that can foster social interaction; and furthermore, a community. The potential of these neglected spaces needs to be tapped for a positive manifestation of what could be an alternate reality.

Lack of proper maintenance lead the foundation stone to lose its deserved historic value.
Sector-34, Chandigarh Foundation Stone, Phase II Unlike other lost spaces, which owe their abandonment to their lack of visual or historic importance, we came across this ground in Sector 34 Chandigarh which houses the foundation stone of the second phase of Chandigarh. It was laid in 1978 by the first chief architect of Chandigarh, Mr M.N. Sharma. During the time he was alive, he insisted that this place gets the status of a world heritage site. The need of the people kept the place alive, but not to its true potential. A variety of people work around the site This gave us an opportunity to serve a larger community by a concise intervention.
How a built form reflects its inception, could voice for the lost ideas of an architect. Urbanization has made strangers into a multitude. They brush across and sit beside each other daily, but choose to not to interact. It is the mental space that separates them, not the physical distance. One way to incept community interaction is to heal communities of the root cause: issues like doubt, fear, identity crisis, etc.
PT:
we introduce an alternate concept for urban spaces- labyrinths. The surroundings are ormed in the paths, and clear reflection is achieved in the centre; and this duality generates rospection. This approach explores the harmony of symbolism and duality in architecture urban landscape. We give the users an experience that they can talk about and pass as itive disturbances.
Developed from the MANDALA designs, the circle represents the universe. The patterns stand for the cosmos. Symbolically, they represent unity with self, and are widely used for art therapy.
As a challenge to the perception of everyday construction materials, PAPER TUBES have been used as a sustainable alternative. Being low-cost and available, this ephemeral structure is a vehicle for citizens to occupy the urban realm.
STRANGERS and cities are inherently intertwined; we brush past thousands everyday. Yet an inhibition separates us- a social void, governed by our perception.
The design has paper-tube trees conceptualised via BIO-MIMICRY that can be replaced by real trees in the future.
A LABYRINTH is an archetype of the human mind; with paths leading to a central space. The goal is to reach the centre of the self; but it is only half the journey. One must then find a way out of the labyrinth to the outer world forever transformed.
The MIRRORED CUBE in the centre establishes a paradox. The surroundings are distorted in the paths, and the cube reflects clearly. But it’s placed at an angle, so you’ve to adjust to it for a clear image (an analogy to the individuation process in life.

When the authority is masked into vindictive landscape, And the logic is massacred by the dominion; Into the confluence of people and power, The men shall stand in unison With a might, unfathomable. In the great centers they shall nurture Belief and justice. And such shall carry the lore of heritage and memory.
the trophy sponsored by UNESCO, involves physical documentation and analysis of a site which on being cited, enters the UNESCO’s list of heritage sites. The data collected is reproduced by hand using pen and ink as medium. This year’s brief required us to document a site which was a symbol of democracy; the structure played an important role in the administration before we knew democracy as it is.
The site selected is a Chaupal in village Behlba(Haryana) bult in 1921. Long before the introduction of prevalent western style of democracy, in India it took its first step during the late Vedic era through the concept of freedom of speech. During the 17th century, the physical form of Chaupals came into existence as sacred structures for the purpose of practicing the free form of speech, open to everybody without any distinction and became a symbol of collective glory and pride amongst the villagers. It is then, when architecture played a role in manifesting democracy and heritage through the physical form.

The concept of chaupal (chaupari in native tongue) as a democratic space, existed in india long before it got introduced in athens, making it the Origin of democracy. It evolved into physical structures during 1800’s. Seer Chaupari built in 1921, is the oldest surviving one. It was an open platform for free expression even when the nation was under British control and still continues to serve the purpose. yet, it’s importance is little known and celebrated.
