Biograghy Di Yang, an interior design student at the Academy of Art University-San Francisco. She born and grew up in Taiyuan, China, and she has interior job experiences in Taiyuan. She has a lot of passion for interior design.She thinks the different cultures could bring many of new idea for her design experience. That is why she came to the USA and continue to study. She loves to travel and likes to record the different architectural cultures of each city, to visit and learn modern interior architecture.As a young designer, she has been exploring the relationship between space and people. She believes spaces serve users, and people interact with spaces. Di like to experience new technology and has been learning and searching the mutual development of high-technology and interior space. Her goal is that achieves the standards of international interior design and can content client requirements in the interior design for different countries.

Hotel C My client HGI has purchased 1540 Broadway, Oakland, CA 94612, a property in the center of downtown Oakland, California. The property currently has a small two-story retail structure. HGI plans to demolish the existing structure, and has hired an architect to develop plans for a new downtown boutique hotel. The hotel will primarily serve business guests, but some tourists are expected as well. It will have eight stories, plus a rooftop sky bar. The sky bar will provide cocktails, musical entertainment, and light hors d'oeuvres from the restaurant kitchen (via a dedicated elevator). In addition, the building will have two basement levels for parking. The total area of the hotel is 11150.8 sf2 . The hotel’s purpose is to provide more people to provide interactive space, not only for guests who live in the hotel also native people. the hotel Influenced by Oakland’s prestigious sports events that attracted more people have conversations. The hotel’s main function space includes a restaurant, cocktail lounge, ballroom, banquet room and rooftop sky bar.

Concept Interconnection A hotel is a place that provides many opportunities for people to interact and connect with each other. My concept for this hotel is to create public spaces to promote this interaction both between the physical spaces, and between the people – whether they are locals or travel guests. Oakland is a city full of energy, vitality, and a passionate love for sports and there local teams. The sky bar on the top floor is open to all people who like sports and social gatherings. The second floor will have flexibility in the form of movable walls that allow for small group, or large groups to interact. The hotel’s value focus on social gatherings and groups activities to promote people’s communication.


Specific Values for Users According to my research, I found out Oakland is a fantastic place to achieve fitness goals of whatever level desired. A lot of sports around Oakland that affected the city. So many people join the sports activities, such as marathons, bicycle race, football, baseball game, and Kayak & Canoe competition. There vare also weather for hiking and a variety of parks, many of which are organized to explore the city. Also there has the most famous game the NBA basketball.The spirit of sports is “Perseverance�, which makes Oakland’s life more colorful, also gave the city a new value. According to the project requirements that this hotel is an extended-stay model hotel, meaning target executive business guests who are visiting Oakland for extended periods of time. Throught rearching, Most of the people stay in Oakland are young and middle-aged (18-44), so I anticipate the users who want to have a healty living, interested in sports and the pursue quality of life.

Community Center


H.o.A Multicultural Community Center The community center is intended to welcome new refugees and provide them with a space for social services, education, job training and community connection as they journey toward self-sufficiency and adjust to life in a new city. The building is located in Pacific Northwest Multicultural Community Services, Portland.


Concept Aggregation The H.O.A. Community Center is a place for refugees and immigrants to gather and learn new ways to improve their lives and adapt to a new living environment. My design concept takes on the form of hexagons to symbolize the act of gathering. The hexagon shape fit uniformly into each other to form a larger structure. One example found in nature is the beehive. The main feature of the space, located at the center of the floor plan, is a movable system of furniture and partition that can be reconfigure to support both large group activities and well as be separated to smaller gathering. Surrounding this main focal point is spaces of social gatherings, learning and career development. Our values concentrate on unity and diversity. Our purpose is to promote the integration of different cultures and backgrounds to work towards a common goal.


I focus on the community room because it is an important space for people to communicate and learn from each other, so I will put in furniture on the hexagon carpet. The pathway could go through the carpet and combine with the private space. Also each space is a group, and they could be grouped together into a large activity, or they also could be separate to a small group for discussions.

Work-at-home The building is 156 SF that one floor. My client is a young fashion entrepreneurs who have just establish their business would rather bring their work to home. In her working team, she has three working partners – pattern designer, dressmaker, and online store worker “Romance with masculinity, classic with fashion” is her design orientation. Passion for life is the source of her design.


Client LIU MIN

My client Liu Min is a promising young costume designer who has just completed her study abroad. In school, she has created her own brand and opened an online store. Since her life and her design are inter-dependent, she wants her new house to accommodate her work and her clothing store.


Concept

The movable partition could be opened or closed at any time, and the space is thus adjustable. Such flexible division meets the demand for both privacy and openness. Though work is inseparable with her life, she still needs private space from time to time. In a clothing store open to the public, the customers are able to observe the designer’s working process and design process. While when she needs her personal space, the planks would be assembled to create a private space.

The center circle act as the hub of the space. So the movable transform the characteristics of each space when the partition closes completely, opens completetely, opens partially to different spaces



Designer’s Workshop

The moving partition slides around the round designer’s workshop in the center. It could be opened up completely or Closed up to fit the occasion


Section

The sample dress behind the window is the dress that Min’s group is working on. Though the customers cannot touch it, they can see the fabric and the workmanship clearly.
