We are a Park with a long history of meeting the ever-changing needs of our diverse community with caring, professional services and innovative state-of-the-art services and facilities. We welcome the diversity in cultures, religions and family backgrounds as we maintain our commitment to planning for the future needs of the people we serve. Our plans for the Asian Gardens section are now with Council and we are continually creating new memorialisation product options for families. Our efforts to secure additional burial space are of paramount importance to meeting the future needs of Sydney’s eastern and near suburbs. To this end, we are diligently following-up on our proposal to the Department of Lands to be assigned a portion of the adjoining Crown Lands, currently used as market gardens, under permissive occupancy. Over 12,000 petition signatures have been received by interested members of the community and the number is growing. I invite you to visit and enjoy the splendour of our many gardens which are currently in bloom, displaying abundance of colour with the recent rainfall and, finally, warmer weather. You can relax with a coffee and refreshment at our on-site café and meet with any of our helpful Customer Service and Funeral Home teams who will gladly answer any of your questions relating to the many services that we proudly offer to our community.
A MESSAGE FROM OUR CEO
George H. Passas FAICD FCIS FCPA Chief Executive Officer
The Park has been a source of vibrant activity in the weeks leading up to summer and throughout the festive season. In October we hosted a Chinese delegation from Jiangsu Province, Peoples’ Republic of China and many local families and visitors who came to our successful Open Day, Father’s Day Service and Christmas Service events.
The ethos of ESMP is that we are a people organisation serving the needs of people!

Delegation from China visits ESMP On the 6th of October, ESMP hosted a visit to the Park by senior management and representatives of the MUDU Cemetery, from Jiangsu Province, Peoples’ Republic of China. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Mr Fulin Ge, Chairman of the Board, Mudu Asset Company, PRC and ESMP’s Chairman of Trustees, Mr John Morrison. The Memorandum will play an important role in promoting a greater understanding towards matters of mutual interest, specifically as they relate to meeting the funereal, burial and cremation needs of the Chinese Community. The scope will encompass: • Establishing a friendly relationship to facilitate any future exchanges. • Exchanging experiences relating to memorial park requirements, garden arts, structures, planning, architectures, culture, processes and promotion.
Mr Fulin Ge, Chairman of the Board, Mudu Asset Company, PRC who is leading a MUDU Cemetery Delegation from Jiangsu Province, Peoples’ Republic of China, is welcomed to ESMP by Chairman, Mr John Morrison. The visit coincides with ESMP’s development of a new section within our Park which will provide the Asian community with high quality and tradition-appropriate, interment and bereavement care. As part of this process, ESMP is inviting and welcoming advice and guidance from Asian community leaders, both in Australia and overseas. This Chinese Delegation is an important initiative.
ASIAN GARDENS Plans have been submitted to Council to incorporate significant features and services into the detailed design developed by Argo Projects Pty Ltd. This has been prepared under the expert direction of their Group Managing Director and Principal Architect Will Marcus, in consultation with Temples and Parishes. The new Gardens will include temples, water features and represented Gods/Buddhas in addition to many other identified items of cultural and religious significance. The project will be completed in 2012 and we are looking forward to ongoing liaison and engagement with representatives of the Asian communities to gain the benefit of their insights and suggestions.

ESMP 2011 OPEN DAY The ESMP Open Day was a great success with a large number of visitors enjoying our many Open Day tours and activities on a magnificent spring day! The gardens were in bloom, displaying a splendid splash of colour, creating a spectacle for all to enjoy. A wonderful testament to the excellent efforts of all our Gardens and Grounds staff!

The Cape Banks Family History Society provided visitors with maps and information explaining the historic headstones of Pioneer Memorial Park. People of all ages were invited to explore and learn about Sydney’s early history. Once again, we acknowledge and congratulate the members of the Cape Banks Family History Society for their dedication and expertise in providing our community with such valuable insights into Sydney’s past. Mr John McDiarmid of John J McDiarmid & Sons was present at the Open Day, assisting visitors with their questions relating to monuments and vases. He was able to explain the whole process of choosing the appropriate type of stone, shape and inscriptions from his many years of experience helping families with these decisions. John J McDiarmid & Sons is a local family business, located at Matraville, with a long history dating back to 1946! We thank him and his family for their ongoing support to ESMP.

Once again the 1st Little Bay Scout Group treated everyone to a delicious sausage sizzle as visitors took a break between tours and activities. We greatly appreciate their contribution and involvement! John Vogel, Manager ESMP Funeral Home, explained the many features and professional services we offer families with our state-of-the-art funeral home facilities. These include our on-site mortuary, the arrangement rooms and our special audio visual displays which make it easier for families to make decisions during the arrangement process. Many visitors welcomed the opportunity to meet with John, who is providing readers of the Wentworth and Southern Couriers with answers to the many questions that we receive in relation to what is involved with funeral arrangements, burials, cremations and memorialisations. At the conclusion of the Funeral Home tour, a display of wonderful local artwork greeted visitors as they entered the modern funeral home chapel. The pictures were presented by the Randwick Art Society and included a wide variety of subjects, including landscapes and flower arrangements, painted in traditional and contemporary styles. ESMPs’ Open Day event provided these local artists with the opportunity to show and sell their work, one of which, much to the delight of the artist, was purchased by our Chairman, Mr John Morrison!

Local solicitor Patrick Lim, of Patrick Lim & Associates, answered many questions relating to the importance, preparation and maintenance of Wills. His support to the event was much appreciated, prompting visitors to followup on the need to prepare and/or update their Wills for the benefit of their families and to give them peace-of-mind. Many visitors had fun learning how to make a beautiful bouquet with the expert and helpful guidance of on-site florist, Roz Richardson. Magnificent flower arrangement displays were created by “budding florists” of all ages! Everyone was a winner in the event as each person was invited to take their “work of floral art” home! We extend our special thanks to Roz, Wade Lawrence, the Manager, and all of his Condolence Centre, Café and Florist staff for their support and contribution to the event. Visitors were able to enjoy an informative and comprehensive tour of the Park’s gardens, with the knowledgeable guidance of ESMP’s Customer Service team. We thank the Matraville RSL Club for the use of their bus and their helpful driver, Jerome Stanalonis, who navigated the numerous streets and roadways. People were able to see the splendid vista of spring flowers and learn about the many sections of the Park, including Centenary Park, Gazebo Gardens, Pond of Tranquility, the refurbished Glade area and the new Crypts and Vaults.

The “behind the scenes tours” of the Crematorium also provided visitors with insight as to how this important service is provided in a professional and respectful way. They were shown an information video which explained the process and then they were invited to inspect the facilities within the Crematorium building. The success of the ESMP Open Day was made possible by the excellent organisation and helpfulness contributed by ESMP’s Customer Service, Funeral Home, Gardens and Grounds staff. Their efforts in preparing for the event, organising and conducting tours and providing information and assistance to our many visitors was a credit to the whole team and reflection of their professionalism and the pride they take in their work at ESMP!!
