Design for Pinghu Citizen Sports Center

WORK TYPE: Group, Practical (Tendering) LAUNCH TIME: February, 2017 PROJECT LOCATION: Suburb of Pinghu, Zhejiang Province, China PERSONAL CONTRIBUTION: 20%Masterplan, 20%Technical Drawing, 50%Sketch Modeling, 60%Diagram SUPERVISOR: Arch. LU Shiliang <lusl_hitardi@126.com>

This project is my first involvement in the design practice of sporting architecture and planning. The work process impressed me a lot on the ways of working on this specific type of architecture, given the way by requirements of the local goverment.

The sports center is surrounded by the land for residence and education in the newly planned suburb area, with a youth stadium, a swimming hall and a gym hall seperatedly included, mainly provide services for students, athlete and public entertainment. A feature that was created in response to developer's brief: "to create a landmark facility that exceeds current environmental standards".

After contributing on the masterplan design with the team of 6, I soonly took part in the work for the gym hall, from studying the flexible courts , function superposition, and the streamline analysis, to technical drawings of plans and sections, as well as the sketch modeling by Rhino and after-diagrams by Photoshop. During the whole working process, I gained basic knowledge on planning a sports campus with reflection on local local culture and landscape image; Moreover, I studied on gym spatial design combined with the mind of commercial operation, and . The first practical involvement on sports center combs my mind for doing a mega project in specific clear steps and gives me confidence at this specific area of architecture, which I enjoyed a lot and would love to apply what I have learned and reflected to a new sports project again.

DESIGN KEYPOINTS_ diagram drawn in person 1. The site is big area of green currently, with surrounding siting the youth gym and citizen statium, whose applicable user types are relatively single.

2. The new sports center considers the overall site design, appropriately transplanting trees in order to ensure the greening rate, and also rationalizes the site flow.

3. The new sports center considers the flow and interaction of user groups when the future scale becomes larger. MASTERPLAN_ design with coworker_ render and photoshop in person

The main contradiction of site is to solve the integration of current sports buildings (youth gym and the stadium) and the natural landscape. Based on the sports center development vision, the project context will penetrate into the big stadium environment, forming a coherent sports center landscape. The middle of two venues will be connected with podiums. The whole site will pattern a graceful posture along the lake for the user viewing experience.

LOUNGE/ RESTROOM OFFICING During the design process, I also studied the zones and streamlines during/off tournament. The stadium involves many different types of people, bringing a large number of goods to the stadium and the exchange of people, forming a complex flow of people and logistics in the stadium. Therefo re, in addition to requiring humanization in the architectural space design, a rational streamline analysis must also be carried out to introduce theoretical guidance for the use of the building, and personnel should not be cross-mixed.
