1970 1986
1946-1976: From humble beginnings Duncan Keith - Angus and Dougal’s father - started the company immediately after WW2 doing servicing and repairs. In 1972 he started selling Russian built Moskvich cars, and then Lada. But in 1976 he switched to Czechbuilt ŠKODA (a wise move!) which has remained the cornerstone of the company’s operations ever since.
1977-1999: The new generation In the early 80’s Dougal and Angus joined the company and father Duncan gradually handed responsibility to the next generation. By the time Volkswagen acquired ŠKODA in 1991 it was clear to the family that the future of ŠKODA would be very different and they decided to invest in the site at Thwaite Gate.

Since the millenium, D. M. Keith Ltd has grown from strength to strength with the Group expanding with showrooms in Bradford, Wakefield, Huddersfield and York. In 2010 our Leeds branch was named ŠKODA Retailer of the year. We extended our hand of support to good local causes like the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, which we have backed for over 10 years.

2018 HONDA CR-V GETS HYBRID AND SEVEN-SEAT OPTIONS The new Honda CR-V (coming later this year), will be offered with the options of seven seats and a hybrid for the first time. 5 MINUTES WITH... MICK CARR (SERVICE MANAGER), HAS BEEN WITH WESTGATE HONDA FOR 42 YEARS. WE TAKE A CLOSER LOOK AT HIS WONDERFUL MEMORIES. How did you get to where you are today? Starting in 1975 I was headhunted whilst working with commercials; starting as a technician I worked my way up to be Service Manager within Terry Burgess Motors (eventually becoming Westgate Motors). Back then we was an Alfa dealer with Honda Motorcycles. Eventually the relationship with Alfa deteriorated due to customer dissatisfaction, the opposite was true for Honda with whom we grew extensively with. When Robert took over and saw I had good feel for customers, I was given free rein in after sales so that in 1990 when this showroom was built; Robert trusted me to lead it and to employ who we needed to make it a success with many of that team still here. Training back then was abroad, Honda had competitions as incentives. Getting to visit America, Japan & Yugoslavia and I did things that I might not have done otherwise. Such as? My best memory was Japan, flying first class to celebrate their 50th year, I will never forget when Robert came into this office to tell me. We was some of the first people to visit the Twin Ring Motegi track; this being the highlight of my career. Honda have been so forward thinking and friendly, everyone in the brand was passionate. I could ring any dealer in the country and would know who the service manager was. What makes the Honda proposition work so well? Being at the higher end of the market Honda offer brilliant build quality; this coupled with service plans and roadside recovery offer a full package – years before other brands. Customers’ expectations have got higher but they still need looking after the old fashioned way, this has allowed us to build up fantastic long term relationships. The #1 rule is to look after customers, I still use those ethics now. If the brand looks after you, you look after the team, it becomes second nature for the team to look after the customers which pay our wages - customers can go wherever they want. I like to think we’ve built up such a relationship with customers they wouldn’t want to go anywhere else. And that’s the ethos you’ve got to build on – good old fashioned service.
