It all started
with a petrol station... From humble beginnings to 10 showrooms When Duncan Keith left the army after World War two, he had a hundred pounds and a set of tools, with which he set up a car repair business. By the 1960’s he owned a petrol station and began selling used cars. In 1976 the company took on ŠKODA, and from there, we have matched the phenomenal growth of the brand. Today we have ten state of the art showrooms - ŠKODA, SEAT and Honda. Including our latest acquisition, the Westgate Motor Group in Grimsby. We have worked hard every day to ensure a first rate experience for our customers, and we value every single relationship. That’s why we’ve won so many Retailer of the Year awards. The latest addition to our family... In 2018, we acquired Westgate Motor Group, which, like D. M. Keith, shares a long history of great customer service based on family values...
The Westgate Motor Group started in 1988 when Robert Addison acquired Terry Burgess Motors. With Robert at the helm, the move was made to a purpose built showroom on Moody Lane in 1990, and the company was re-born as Westgate Honda - a solus dealer for Honda in the North East Lincolnshire area. Westgate Honda quickly achieved Honda dealer of the year in 1992 - an award won again in 2000. These achievements and a good local reputation enabled Robert to expand with his second dealership, which was to become SEAT in 2002. At the time, SEAT was going through a transitional period, joining the newly formed Volkswagen Group. SEAT became a perfect accompaniment for Westgate Honda as an affordable car

combining the ‘Spirit of Barcelona’ with reliable German engineering. Westgate SEAT achieved its dealer of the year accolade in 2013 – a hat trick of awards for the group. A decade later Robert and the Westgate team opened a ŠKODA showroom. ŠKODA was fast becoming the power brand that we see today, with multi award winning models and almost a million production vehicles sold globally. As the sister name to SEAT it was the perfect fit – and just two years later in 2014, another dealer of the year award was won, taking the total number of group awards to 4. In 2016 all the hard work and dedication was recognised – as the group was named as one of the 1,000 companies to inspire Britain by the London Stock Exchange. The start of 2018 saw a transition in the company as Robert retired and passed the company over to Dougal & Angus of D. M. Keith - where the story continues!

1946-1976: From humble beginnings Duncan Keith - Angus and Dougal’s father - started the company immediately after WW2 doing servicing and repairs. In 1972 he started selling Russian built Moskvich cars, and then Lada. But in 1976 he switched to Czech-built ŠKODA (a wise move!) which has remained the cornerstone of the company’s operations ever since.

In the early 80’s Dougal and Angus joined the company and father Duncan gradually handed responsibility to the next generation. By the time Volkswagen acquired ŠKODA in 1991 it was clear to the family that the future of ŠKODA would be very different and they decided to invest in the site at Thwaite Gate. Our expansion continued with the addition of the showroom in Hull. In 2015 we redeveloped all of our sites to provide stateof-the art facilities. In 2018 the business grew by a third with the addition of Grimsby ŠKODA, SEAT and our latest brand, Honda. With multiple industry awards, we continue to offer unparalleled family customer service.
2000 - 2010: Onwards and upwards Since the millennium, D. M. Keith has grown from strength to strength with the group expanding with showrooms in Bradford, Wakefield, Huddersfield and York. In 2010 our Leeds branch was named ŠKODA Retailer of the year. We extended our hand of support to good local causes like the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, which we have backed for over 10 years.

Our Leeds base has provided the foundation for D. M. Keith to grow. Originally based at Cross Green, the take-over of the brand by Volkswagen Group in the early 90’s led the move to the current site at Thwaite Gate. The site was re-developed in 1999. We invested over £2 million in 2016 to build the new ultra-contemporary head office we see today.
Bradford
The Managing Director of ŠKODA cut the ribbon to officially launch a new state of the art showroom in Bradford, at a cost of about £1.4 million. This provided ŠKODA and D. M. Keith with a a flagship site on Canal Road. In 2016 the site was refurbished incorporating the brand’s new Corporate retail design.
The Keiths were one of the most powerful of the Scottish Celtic Families. They held the hereditary office of Great Marischall (or Marshall) of Scotland from the 12th century onwards. The Great Marischall of 1305 was one of Edward the I’s four Wardens of Scotland, but at Christmas, 1308, he took the side of Robert The Bruce and was rewarded by the lands of Kintore. At the battle of Bannockburn, it was he who commanded the cavalry. In 1458, Lord Keith was created Earl Marischall.

D. M. Keith opened on Dewsbury Road in Wakefield July 2005. A new £1 million pound state-of the-art showroom and workshop was deveoped by 2006. The success of this site highlighted a need for further expansion - the result being another step forward in contemporary showroom design at Calder Island on Denby Dale Road.

February 2007 saw another success story for D. M. Keith. Based on St Andrews Road, Huddersfield, a new showroom and service centre gave the breadth of choice and level of service that D. M. Keith customers have come to expect. The premises has been continually updated to offer customers the best possible experience.
‘Family Ties’ It all ‘ties’ in... Each member of our staff wears the tartan tie signifying the Clan (family) Keith. That’s why we call our family ‘Team Tartan’.
