SURFACE ACT NEW HIGH SPEED RAIL STATION FOR CHICAGO
The enslaving and fast paced cycles of consumption in our cities today can many times limit the creation of culture through play. Merging recreational public space with a high speed rail station allows for the possibility of a hybrid culture and transit hub. Extending the concept of Millennium Park as a surface artifice into the transit hub explores the relationship of landscape and architecture in the city, creating a spatial dialog between the urban streetscape and the landscape. layer of artifice

The dynamic undulation of the building’s form moves its surface above, below, and at the levels of the trains. Creating a condition of flux within the transit station, that allows a person’s spatial perception to change as one moves through the space. Beyond its use as a transits concourse, dynamic programs of play provide the user with a transient existence inside and outside the building.
