2019 LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT The Monroe County Fair is just a few short weeks away and the Monroe County Fair Board and countless volunteers have been working to get ready for it. More importantly, the 4-H and FFA kids have been feeding, training, grooming, practicing and caring for the animals they will be showing at the fair. They have been planting, watering, fertilizing and tending the flowers and produce they will display, all with the hope of bringing home a ribbon. They have been working on projects, pictures and crafts to show. It’s the kids that make the fair fun! There’s also great competition among the adults. They show animals, flowers and vegetables, as well as photos and handiwork. They compete with baked items and canned produce. They participate in horse shows, tractor pulls and other events. There is always something exciting going on at the Monroe County Fair!
4-H/FFA livestock auction held on Thursday evening receives tremendous support from countless businesses and individuals. This year’s Monroe County Fair begins Sunday, July 21 with a Junior Horse Show at 10:00 a.m. Highlighting opening day are the Little Miss and Fair Queen pageants on Sunday evening. That kicks off a week of great food, music, balloon artists, commercial exhibits, livestock judging and horse shows, tractor pulls, the very popular Figure 8 Race and Demo Derby, and, of course, the carnival rides! Armband nights are Thursday and Sunday, July 25 and 28. We’ll end the week Sunday evening with great events for all to enjoy, including the annual FFA Fun Night at 6:30 p.m. Check out our website for more details and the schedule at monroecounty-fair.org. Mark your calendars for July 21 – 28 and I hope to see you at the Monroe County Fair!
As always, we appreciate the great community support which has made the Monroe County Fair one of the best in the State of Illinois. Our community cares – about each other and about the kids. They want to make a difference. Since funding from the State is uncertain from year to year, the support from the community has been priceless. The
Don Schrader, President Monroe County Fair Assn. Waterloo, Ill.
