Georgetown continues to foster the tradition of broad–based knowledge combined with practicality to be a successful and contributing member of society. At Georgetown, I will be able to pursue many of my passions, primarily biological sciences and political science. Ever since elementary school, my goal has been to become a physician, not only because of my interest in human anatomy but also because of my desire to help others. I selectively picked Georgetown because it does not have "pre–med" as a major. The Early Assurance Program within Georgetown College intrigues me as it provides ambitious pre–med students with an opportunity to receive assurance of their admission to Georgetown's School of Medicine by the end of their sophomore year....show more content...

In order to make informed choices about who to vote for in upcoming elections, people should know the history of the political structure of their country. Classes such as "Public Opinion" intrigue me as it deals with the issues of re–election in government. Recent polls show that only fifeteen percent of voters are content with the current Congress yet 95 percent of members of the House of Republicans are re–elected every two years. This dilemma in American Politics is something that I intend to find the root of and Georgetown will help me do so. If I am accepted at Georgetown College, then I will be able to fulfill my goals of being a biological sciences minor and political science minor, while remaining on the "pre–med" track. Georgetown will also foster some of my other smaller passions such as writing. Descriptions of the writing seminar class structures have increased my already vast interest in Georgetown and its' academic atmosphere. Georgetown's writing seminars, while very different from the traditional high school structure of English classes, inspires growth through the use of logical and rhetorical

Georgetown College Essay

Growing up, the end goal in my education was Georgetown University. My plan to get accepted was that I would study hard, take difficult classes, and participate in impressive extracurriculars. However I did not get accepted as planned. Ever since I started the school year I avoided Georgetown's campus out of a fear of confronting my unattained dream. I thought that if I went to Georgetown's campus I would feel like an outsider.Entering the gates to theUniversity gave me anxiety. The first thing I noticed was that Georgetown's campus was larger than American's, but both were equally aesthetically pleasing. I also observed that the kids around me did not seem as happy, and in whole not as well dressed as the community at American. I had...show more content...

The brain has created cautionary measures in order to allow our self to get past rejection, and focus on the future. Choice theory informs us that rational humans will maximize any situation they are placed in. Therefore not going to my first choice school is not detrimental and my brain allows me to get through that thought. There is a great deal of scholarly articles about cognitive dissonance and choice theory. However, many fail to implement the cognitive state college applicants face after being rejected from a university, this is where I will enter the conversation. In my paper I will bring together the studies of psychology and economics which address mental states that humans go through during rejection and apply the population of college applicants. In this paper I will be examining cognitive dissonance, which is how people justify a decision that was previously a contradictory thought, with college applicants before they enter school that was not their first choice. Then write about choice theory, which is how people maximize the situation they are put in, and use college students after they experience a college that was not their first choice college and see if they regret this decision. In this paper I will be able to enter the conversation in both cogitative dissonance and choice theory by examining the state of mind of college applicants and then college

Why I Want To Attend Georgetown University

I have always known that I wanted to attend a top–tier university. The other details came later; the small size, the proximity to an urban hub, and my major itself. For a while, I was convinced that it would not happen; that I just wouldn't get in. Now, I realize that I have an opportunity to do so. This is an opportunity I do not intend to waste. When I began to look at colleges, Georgetown University immediately stood out. I want a values–based education, not just a knowledge–based education. I want to attend Georgetown University because it will give me the knowledge I need to help others, but will also provide the Catholic perspective that my upbringing has given me. As stated by the prompt, the McDonough School ofBusiness prides

Georgetown University and I possess similar ideals. I, like Georgetown University, constantly hope to see a socially responsible entrepreneurship in an age of globalization to address the most significant challenges and opportunities facing the business world. I hope to go to a world of business, economics, and relationships between people of different countries and different backgrounds; I hope to expose the corruption and extortion that hide under its surface. Furthermore, I hope to create a world where honesty and ethics drive us forward, binding us in a community of positive interactions. Georgetown's McDonough School of Business will expose me to a world within the international environment in which I will be able to expand my perspective of the world and understand the larger meaning of business.

I really found my passion for business when I visited the Arnold Worldwide advertising agency here in Boston. We were given a tour and we did a mock–advertisement when we were there. Participating in an activity like that, I felt more alive, more engaged, than I ever had before. I am not sure I want to go into advertising, but I realized that business is full of different branches; some are creative, others are...show more content... Thank you for considering me for admission to Georgetown University Law Center. I am writing to reiterate my interest in Georgetown Law. Aside from being a prestigious law school, the Public Interest Program at Georgetown Law supports my career goals excellently. Being a public interest student at Georgetown Law would help me get hands–on experience through volunteer work, while providing classes and opportunities that would assist me in securing a job after graduation. I feel my experience working with a family law attorney on CPS cases this semester, while balancing my school and athletic schedules, shows my commitment to making a difference in my community through advocacy. I have chosen to apply to the Georgetown University School of Medicine because I feel that my experiences and goals closely align with Georgetown University's mission and values. The Jesuit ideals are incredibly important to me, specifically cura personalis. Having already been immersed in the Jesuit traditions as an undergraduate at Loyola University Chicago, I have learned to look at life through the philanthropic lens of a Jesuit, and I have learned to become a person for others. Further, I have been humbled by my volunteering experiences and have discovered the importance of using my time and resources to help others who are not as fortunate. For example, while volunteering with Gentiva Hospice and spending time with patients who had minimal days left to live, I felt like I was giving back even if it was something small like sitting by their bedside holding their hand or offering words of encouragement. Seeing a patient smile or feel more comfortable after something I had done taught me the impact I can have, and how...show more content...

As research will always be an integral part of the future of medicine, I hope to contribute by conducting meaningful research as a physician. My work in a research study involving out–of–hospital cardiac arrest opened my eyes to how discovering new medical knowledge can change how treatment is given, and can have a lasting impact on patient outcomes. Consequently, I hope to participate in clinical research during my medical school career. I believe I will have ample opportunities to pursue research at Georgetown University through the Independent Scholarly Project and various research projects requiring student participation, ultimately providing me the background knowledge for my future

I had the feeling of both great satisfaction and disappointment to have received my waitlist notification two weeks ago. I was grateful to have the potential of attending Georgetown University. But I also felt deeply distressed; knowing I had a few weeks of waiting until I receive an ultimate decision. Despite this distress, Georgetown remains my school of choice for a number of reasons. And I would like to take this opportunity to rearticulate my interest in Georgetown University as well as inform this admissions committee on many of my pursuits since submitting my application.

About a month ago, I had the opportunity to visit D.C. and walk the Georgetown campus grounds. As I strolled around the Hilltop, I immediately sensed that I resonated with the place. The location on top of the hill felt imposing yet emblematic of enlightenment, the striking gothic architecture pulled the eye up to the firmament, evoking a sacred feeling. And the verdant oak rows and towering maples delivered serenity to the already picturesque neighborhood of northwest D.C. I remember concluding my walk by gazing out over campus at Leavey Esplanade and daydreaming about the years I could spend on that Hilltop. I long for the opportunity to join the unique community Georgetown has cultivated. A university which advocates for class discussion, a university which promotes the diversity of thought, and a university in which I feel that I can Get

Growing up I remember my father telling me of his life at Georgetown. He recounted how much he was able to accomplish and learn in the tight–knit community. He noted the copious opportunities offered, but also how he felt connected with his professors. He told me of how convenient the location was, right in the nation's capital, and how this allowed him to be able to intern and interview with many businesses relevant to his major. As the time for me to apply to colleges drew closer, I began considering his stories, and with them, Georgetown. I researched the school and found it has everything I had hoped my future school will have. It is large enough to have diversity, but not so big it is overwhelming and has a lot of different ways of exploring the world and learning more about the community around me, but just as importantly, it offered a flexibility in when you must declare your major.

Because I now know that a big city, such as Washington D.C. provides many opportunities and many possible mentors in every area of expertise, I hope to attend a college near a big city. The network of the city will allow me to explore areas I had not known about and research jobs that would not be possible if not in a city. No matter which field I decide to go into, I know there will be plenty of museums to explore, people to interview, and resources to

Two years ago, I thought over potential post graduation plans while returning to school from Thanksgiving break, "So I'll try to intern the summer before Senior year at JP Morgan, and then hopefully land an offer with them for a two year contract and after that go on to..." Suddenly the train stopped, and a soldier entered and sat across from me. A love for people and respect for our military motivated me to greet him, and we engaged in a moving conversation about his military service and my life as a student for the rest of the train ride. When we arrived in Washington, we exchanged goodbyes, and although I felt happy immediately after our conversation, I curiously felt an empty sadness when I returned to campus. While unpacking my belongings in my room, my mind returned to the...show more content...

The community of Georgetown is interested in remarkable individuals who are willing to make a difference in the world. The ability to pay is not a part of the criteria they used for admission. To obtain a degree in criminal psychology one must take courses within the psychology department. Accredited Psychology programs require supervised fieldwork, giving the students a chance to engage with criminals to evaluate and diagnose them. Once earning the doctoral degree one must obtain a license. To achieve the license, usually one is required to complete supervised, postdoctoral clinical work, pass a licensing examination, pass an ethics test and have no criminal record. A criminal Psychologist might work in a number of different settings, including private practice, corrections offices and law enforcement agencies where one can see patients. I would consider choosing Georgetown University for my future studies because it has a unique setting, it's a private school which means smaller student bodies, and the fact that their acceptance rate is very low intrigues me to challenge myself, and engage into a demanding, exasperating and fascinating journey. Georgetown would be the perfect fit for me because it offers a major and minor in psychology and an undergraduate and their graduate program offers a five–year program of study in developmental science leading in psychology. If they accept me at Georgetown I want to be one of those individuals seeking to make a difference in

My interest in foreign affairs is what motivated me to apply to Georgetown University and now to attend the UniversitГ© de Strasbourg. As a sophomore French major and Arabic minor, I have always been passionate about the interactions among languages, cultures, and nations. My classes at Georgetown have only strengthened my linguistic passion by inspiring me to expand my horizons with each lesson or homework assignment. My favorite French class thus far at Georgetown, for example, emphasized the importance of researching the context of any book that we read. My professor walked us through centuries of French culture, encouraging us to think critically about art and literature and to study its evolution. With his guidance, I discovered that studying a language and its roots is key to understanding how the structure and beliefs of a society change. How we think is expressed through our use of language, and thus to truly connect with other nations we must be able to communicate effectively with people in their own mother tongue.
