our journal or scrapbook, in whatever form, is an extension of your personality. Whether you’ve used it to document your life, try out new techniques or plan for the future, a scrapbook is both creative and fun while also being practical. The craft has gained a huge following and it’s not hard to see why; this way of documenting life helps us to feel more organized and get creative, and taps into mindfulness too. There are well-known scrapbook projects such as Project Life, but planners, bullet journals and travel journals are also firm favourites. They’re also pretty handy for documenting your year… and what better time than now? Katie Moody has a range of different scrapbooks and journals, which all vary in technique and style.

Her main monthly scrapbook takes the form of the traditional 12 x 12" square format and holds full layouts and pocket pages that show an overview of the month ahead. Katie uses this to document larger events, but also works on smaller scrapbooks as a creative release. For her larger scrapbooks, Katie builds a story around a photo and follows a timeline to give her layouts narrative. The smaller journals are much freer and use different artistic methods. ‘[They] let me go wild,’ she divulges. Elements like colour, composition and texture are key things to consider. Blogger Zinia Amoiridou loves using mixed media on her pages. The shades, layout and materials she uses all play important parts in her scrapbooks. ‘I think it takes scrapbooking to the next level – adding depth, texture and gorgeous details,’ she explains. ‘This helps to make each page unique. When you add paints on your projects, you automatically turn them into one-of-a-kind pieces because you can almost never recreate a mixed media project again in the exact same way.’
