Alternative Scoliosis treatment

In the world of scoliosis treatment you have many options today unlike before. But indeed depending on the age and degree of the curve some options are better than others. Something that has come out recently for use with scoliosis is the scoliosis activity suit, formerly known as the Tornado Suit. The goal of the scoliosis activity suit is to strengthen the muscles and retrain the brain. The scoliosis activity suit is worn a few times a day from anywhere from five to twenty minutes daily. The activity suit is ideal in adolescent small to moderate curve situations or for adults to help relieve pain and increase function. Scoliosis Bootcamp is another great, safe, effective scoliosis treatment option. Scoliosis Bootcamp is a two-week intensive neuromuscular re-education exercise-based scoliosis treatment, performed by a Scoliosis Bootcamp Doctor. Scoliosis Bootcamp Doctors are trained in the treatment of non-invasive, non-surgical scoliosis treatment. Children, teenagers, or adults with curves greater than 25 degrees are candidates for this program. The goal for a child or adolescent is to halt progression, reduce the curve, and stabilize it. Once the treatment is done a specific home neuromuscular re-education exercise based program is prescribed for at home to continue the progress. Early Stage Scoliosis Intervention (ESSI) is another alternative scoliosis treatment. This program specializes in curves that are less than 25 degrees. ESSI is a one-week intensive neuromuscular re-education exercise-based scoliosis treatment performed by a Scoliosis Bootcamp Doctor. Ideal candidates are kids with small curves. The goal of ESSI is to mitigate risk of the small curve becoming a moderate or large curve. Once the treatment is done a specific home neuromuscular re-education exercise based program is prescribed for at home to continue the progress. Structural Integration is yet another alternative method for the treatment of scoliosis. This method is performed by massage therapist and physical therapist. It focuses on the scoliotic posture. It works with exercises that have you twist, stretch and strengthen muscles to help realign your posture so it is more midline and straight.

Yoga for Scoliosis is another form of treatment for scoliosis. This is more to help manage pain in adult scoliosis. A lot of adults do have success with smaller curves with this program. It works with making your spine strong and more flexible. It also helps with body awareness. This may not be good for adolescent scoliosis due to high progressive nature of adolescent scoliosis. These are just a few of the alternative scoliosis treatments that are out there in the world today. When you are seeking treatment for you, your daughter or son take some time getting to know your caring team, do some research on the web about the treatment. Ask to be put in touch with families who have undergone similar treatments. This will help you make an informed decision on the best treatment for you or your family. But the one thing I don’t approve is the watch and wait method. Remember all big curves start out small at one point, and small curves are much easier to treat then large curves. I urge you, stay ahead of the curve!
