FORD COUNTY INCENTIVES Did you know that the State of Kansas, City of Dodge City, Ford County, and the Dodge City/Ford County Development Corporation offer a wide variety of financial incentives? This month the Development Corporation is featuring Historic Tax Credits. Historic Tax Credits Tax credits provide a key tool for the rehabilitation of historic properties - both income producing and non income producing. The federal program provides an income-tax credit equal to 20% of qualified rehabilitation expenditures on income-producing properties. The State program provides a tax credit equal to 25% of qualified expenditures on income producing or non income producing properties. Projects must meet the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation. To find out if your project qualifies for tax credits or to receive an application, contact the State Historic Preservation Office at (785)272-8681 ext. 240. For a step-by-step guide on Historic Tax Credits, please visit https://www.kshs.org/p/tax-credit-basics/14673 for more information. MID-LEVEL MEDICAL COLLEGE PROJECT In 2017, the City of Dodge City, in conjunction with the Dodge City/Ford County Development Corporation, applied for a United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Business Development Grant. They were awarded the grant, which is being used to complete a feasibility study through Wichita State University (WSU) that will identify which areas of healthcare are underserved in the 28 counties of Southwest Kansas. On March 30th, Misty Bruckner and Craig Crossette from the Wichita State University Public Policy & Management Center were in Dodge City to present their findings on the feasibility study. Throught that study it was learned that, as expected, the Southwest Kansas counties are severely underserved in every area, with the largest deficit in dental and mental healthcare. With the funds, the Dodge City/Ford County Development Corporation were also able to hire a consultant, Terri McLain, to move the project forward. Representatives from the Development Corporation plan to meet with representatives from the Kansas Board of Regents, University of Kansas, Fort Hays State University, WSU and Dodge City Community College to discuss what the next steps are to bring mid-level medical programs to Dodge City.
