Four local artists among Art is Ageless® masterpiece level winners! DODGE CITY, Kan. — Four winning artists in Manor of the Plainsʼ annual Art is Ageless® juried competition will be featured in the 2021 Art is Ageless calendar produced by PMMA (Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America). More than 160 entries were received for this yearʼs masterpiece competition. “Flower Dance,” a quilting entry by Kae Bryant, “Storyteller,” a painting by Mary Anne Hendrix, “Kansas Sunset,” a painting by Linda Kobs, and “Cox Comb,” a quilting entry by Lilli Peters, will appear in the calendar when it is released this fall. “Mowgli the Mutt,” a drawing by Joanne Clarke, will be featured on the pull-out postcards in the 2021 calendar. In addition, “Afternoon Tea,” a painting by Sarah Schaeffer, and “Summer Sun Flowers,” a sculpture/3-D entry by Joan Vogel, will be featured on Art is Ageless greeting cards. Works by local winners are automatically entered into a masterpiece level competition with winning art from 15 other PMMA communities. The winners are featured in the Art is Ageless calendar with pull-out postcards and greeting cards. “We are so grateful for those who participated in this yearʼs Art is Ageless competition, as well as those who will continue to share their hard work for years to come. We are truly honored to spotlight the artwork of seniors throughout our community for 40 years and counting.” said Brittany Gladbach, marketing director, Manor of the Plains. Art is Ageless, open exclusively to people age 65 and older, is a copyrighted program of PMMA. For the competition, works must have been completed in the past five years. PMMAʼs Art is Ageless program encourages Manor of the Plains residents and other area seniors to express their creativity through its annual competition, as well as art classes, musical and dramatic events, educational opportunities and current events discussions throughout the year. Started in 1980, Art is Ageless is an extension of PMMAʼs wellness programs, which focus on mental, physical, social and spiritual health. Residents and friends of PMMAʼs Art is Ageless program are proving that art, in any form, is an ageless ambition. For more information about Manor of the Plains, contact Brittany Gladbach, marketing director, at 620-225-1928 or bgladbach@pmma.org. For more on Art is Ageless, visit ArtIsAgeless.org.

Open with Extra Precautions! The United Wireless Arena and Boot Hill Casino & Resort Conference Center have been open for business since June, with some extra precautions. Events have had expanded space within the conference center and utilizing the United Wireless Arena floor, to allow for social distancing. This expanded spacing is planned to continue until at least 2021 or until health regulations recommend otherwise. In addition to that, the housekeeping and operations staff have been working double-time, to ensure the buildings are sanitized regularly. When events are taking place, they are wiping down high-touch areas and sanitizing bathrooms throughout the day. When events are over, our oper tions crew uses two new electro-static sprayers to disinfect everything – including soft surfaces like chairs! Our food & beverage team has had a whole new level of standards for catering, including wearing masks and gloves during preparation & food service, using individually wrapped utensils/cups/condiments, and serving food under sneeze guards (which our awesome operations crew welded themselves!). Yes, there is a lot more work behind the scenes for events here, but we are happy to take those necessary steps to ensure our guests are happy and healthy! Weʟve had graduation, seminars, meetings, and even a clothing sale over the last couple months. We are already planning for many events this fall and into the holiday season and weʟre all excited to be the place for business and entertainment in southwest Kansas!

Shelter Mutual Insurance announces auto insurance rate reductions! [Columbia, Mo.] — Shelter Insurance® Announces Auto Insurance Rate Reductions 08/04/2020 Columbia, MO — Shelter Insurance® announced that Shelter Mutual would lower rates for automobile insurance for the majority of policyholders. The rate reduction is due to fewer accidents and lower total miles driven by consumers during the pandemic. The overall impact is a reduction of 5.0% for Shelter customers, however the size of the decrease for individual customers will vary based on policy coverages and the individual’s profile and loss experience. Shelter’s strong financial position will allow for the rate reduction while retaining the appropriate levels of premium reserves adequate to pay current claims and generate surplus dollars that can pay future claims from major storms or other disasters. Shelter current and potential customers should consult with their local agent’s Jason Putnam @ 227-8054 or Micheal Mariche @ 225-6225 for any questions.
