DODGE CITY RANKS IN THE TOP 10 - WESTERN TOWN Dodge City, KS Honored as Top True Western Town by True West Magazine! Dodge City is #6 among True West Magazine’s 2019 Top Western Towns. Tombstone, AZ took the top spot. They will be featured in the February 2019 issue, it hit the newsstands on December 10, 2018. For certain generations, Dodge City is the television show ‘Gunsmoke’—and the town does honor that,” says True West Executive Editor Bob Boze Bell. “But it’s so much more, with a history to match any in the Old West. Dodge City truly deserves the designation as a Top Western Town.” This is the 14th year True West has presented this annual award. Editors base their selection on criteria demonstrating how each town has preserved its history through old buildings, museums, and other institutions, events, and promotions of historic resources. LOCAL CABINETMAKER WINS DESIGN COMPETITION Dodge City’s own Kitchens Inc. is the grand prize winner of a regional design award. Kitchens beat-out cabinetmakers and designers throughout Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Colorado, New Mexico and Arkansas, in the Wood-Mode 75th Anniversary Design Awards, with a pool house project located in Larned, KS belonging to Shari and Carlton Bert. Judging criteria was based on lifestyle, creativity and use of space. “It was truly an honor to receive the top honor in such a competitive territory,” said Scott Bogner, President of Kitchens Inc. This project was a true custom-design, meeting the customers preference of transitional styled cabinetry complemented with rustic detail, all in a condensed space. The “Poolside Retreat” featured an amenity-filled kitchenette utilizing a counter-top off a 140-year-old historic tree from the Fort Riley Military Base Cemetery that was struck by lightning, a guest bathroom and hide-away bed, bringing style and function to a small space. “This took a fair amount of ingenuity, engineering and craftsmanship from our Kitchens team, led by designer Carson Robinson, and superior products from Wood-Mode to make this project a reality,” said Bogner. Bogner accepted the award at a product showcase event, held September 17-18, at the Hershey Lodge in Hershey, Pennsylvania. “Our primary goal is to recognize the talents of our highly-trained design partners because much of our success relies on their efforts and those of their award-winning showrooms,” said Jeff Wolf, Wood-Mode director of marketing. Kitchens winning design will be featured in a Wood-Mode commemorative picture book coming out this Fall. For more about this project go to www.kitchensincdc.com.

HEARTLAND CANCER CENTER EARNS TOP ACCREDITATION Central Care Cancer Center has achieved the highest level of recognition in the country for its radiation oncology practice at Heartland Cancer Center in Garden City. American College of Radiology, the nation’s leading radiation oncology accrediting body, recently awarded Central Care Cancer Center a full three-year accreditation for radiation oncology. Central Care Cancer Center partners with St. Catherine Hospital and Centura Health in providing oncology services at Heartland Cancer Center. Among physicians, ACR accreditation is recognized as the highest achievement in medical imaging for practices and represents the peak level of quality and patient safety. Because of rigorous accreditation guidelines, only seven oncology practices in the state currently have the ACR gold seal distinction, and Central Care is affiliated with the only two ACR accredited facilities west of Topeka. “Our staff went through a meticulous process to achieve accreditation,” explained Johanna Garzon, Director of Heartland Cancer Center. “It is a process in which an impartial peer review is completed and a site visit is conducted to assure that quality standards are being followed. The accreditation affirms that at Heartland Cancer Center we are providing the absolute best healthcare and safety measures to our patients.” ACR accreditation rounds out the highest levels of certification for all of Heartland Cancer Center’s oncology services. Its medical oncology program was accredited by the Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI) Certification Program last spring. Additionally, the Breast Center at St. Catherine Hospital, located inside the cancer center, is certified by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers, sanctioned by the American College of Surgeons. It is the only center between Kansas City and Colorado Springs to achieve such distinction. “Western Kansas deserves the best care available and that’s what we provide at Heartland Cancer Center,” said Dr. Claudia Perez-Tamayo, Radiation Oncologist and President of Central Care Cancer Center. “Not only do we have an expert team of physicians, but we have the greatest technology available in oncology care today. The PET-CT and the TrueBeam STx bring the latest, most-advanced technology to Kansas. Our unique blend of physician expertise, technology, and achievements of national accreditation measures assures our patients that they are receiving the best care in the state and beyond.” Besides affiliation with ACR through accreditation, Dr. Perez-Tamayo is distinguished as an ACR Fellow. Only 10 percent of American College of Radiology members have earned the national honor. ACR Fellowship is awarded to members of the College who have achieved significant accomplishments in scientific or clinical research in the field of radiology; made significant contributions to literature; and/or provided outstanding work as a teacher of radiology. For more information about the ACR Practice Accreditation Program: https://www.acraccreditation.org/modalities/radiation-oncology-practice

Dr. Claudia Perez Tamayo discusses treatment with a patient and verifies setup of the innovative TrueBeam STx system at Heartland Cancer Center. The advanced medical linear accelerator treats cancer anywhere in the body, including lung, breast, prostate, and head and neck. It has the power to treat quickly while delivering high dose rates with microscopic accuracy.

MEET THE 2019 AMBASSADOR COMMITTEE MEMBERS Each month, you will meet a chamber ambassador. February’s ambassador is Todd Schriner. Schriner is a lifelong Ford County resident but attended school in Cimarron before attending Fort Hays State University. He currently serves as the retail store manager for United Wireless Communications. “I get to make sure my team has all the necessary tools to help our customers meet sales goals,” Schriner said. United Wireless Communications is a member of the Dodge City Area Chamber of Commerce to strengthen the community and be involved with customers and businesses. “The ability to network with other small business owners and employees combined with the added exposure within our community though chamber events is a great benefit for us as a company,” Schriner said. As a chamber ambassador, Schriner found benefits for himself too. “Even though I have lived in this area most of my life, the ambassador program is a great opportunity for me to network with other professionals and help enrich the lives of others.” Schriner enjoys spending time with his wife Michelle, their four children, and hunting, fishing and golfing. Ambassadors like Todd help make a difference in the community and we appreciate his hard work on behalf of the Chamber. If your business wants someone on the frontlines of welcoming and supporting chamber members, the ambassador team invites you to join! We are nearly half a month into 2019 and the chamber ambassadors have already hosted ribbon cuttings and coffees for local businesses. If you are interested in becoming an ambassador, hosting an event, or want more information, feel free to contact Marisa Vargas, Chamber of Commerce membership director at mvargas@dodgechamber.com
