DC3 LPN PROGRAM TOPS IN STATE The Nursing program at Dodge City Community College has received the honor of having the top LPN program in the state of Kansas. The ranking comes from the nursing advocacy organization PracticalNursing.org, which has evaluated nursing programs across the nation since 2014, publishing the rankings in an annual report. The group is dedicated to championing transparency in researching vocational and practical nursing programs. The recognition comes as a result of continuing efforts of the faculty and administration of DCCC to advance and develop top-level nursing instruction, and further demonstrates that students who complete the Dodge City Community College nursing program are successful in achieving industry-standard licensure – and subsequent employment in their field. Mechele Hailey, director of Nursing and Allied Health at DCCC, said hospitals from as far away as Salina reach out to recruit DCCC nursing graduates. “The quality of our program and our high pass rates are making our graduates a commodity,” she said. “In certain places, just putting our name on their resume will get them looked at before others.”

LOCAL PRMC CLINICS RELOCATE

HOME OF STONE MUSEUM BEGINS 50TH SEASON The Mueller-Schmidt “Home of Stone” is the oldest home still in its original location in Ford County. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It was built between 1879-1881. Only two families ever lived in it, which means it is largely unchanged from what it looked like when it was built. Thirteen pieces of original furniture are still present in the home. The limestone used to build the home was taken from the Sawlog Creek just north of Ford County, which was also the source for the limestone buildings at Fort Dodge.

Pratt Regional Medical Center is making a strategic move in the Dodge City market, putting both clinics in one location. Beginning June 11th the South Central Kansas Bone and Joint Center Dodge City office will be relocating to their new location adjacent to PRMC Clinic Services. The new address is 1206 W. Frontview, Suite 203. They will be planning an open house for later this summer, and look forward to more exam rooms to better serve patients, and increasing their “footprint” in Ford County with a single location.

It was built by bootmaker/cattleman John Mueller, is also credited with being one of architects of the modern cowboy boot. It was then purchased by Adam Schmidt, a blacksmith. Two of his children lived in the home until 1965, when it sold to Ford County. The community held an open house event for the Muellers in 1881, attended by many legendary residents, including Bat Masterson. There are no other existing structures in Dodge City that Bat Masterson visited. Robert Wright’s desk, where he wrote the now classic book Dodge City, the Cowboy Capital is displayed in the home. This out-of-print book brings a high price on the internet today. The home contains a room dedicated to the pioneer mothers of Ford County.

BOOT HILL MUSEUM WELCOMES MILLION

The museum is one of the few remaining connections to the colorful characters in our past. It is in the top ten attractions on TripAdvisor for Dodge City. This structure is a rare, original glimpse into our community’s rich history. In 2017 we had 4,412 visitors which included 43 states and eight foreign countries. According to the information in our guest register, 76% were from out of this community, and of that, 68% were from 100 miles away or more. Our goal is the restoration and preservation of this unique building. It needs to be preserved for future generations. There are currently major items needing work: the front porch and balcony needs replacing, there are foundation issues needing addressed to avoid further damage to the basement level, where the original kitchen is preserved. The Ford County Historical Society, as curator of the museum, is working to secure funds for the work needed. June 1, 2018 marks the beginning of the 50th season operating as museum. This milestone will be celebrated throughout the summer season. Please stop by Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sundays 2 to 4 p.m. for a free guided tour.

HAMPTON INN PARTNERS WITH ST. JUDE RESEARCH HOSPITAL We are writing to share some exciting news with you! Vista Host has recently partnered with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® out of Memphis, TN. As of January 1, 2018, Vista Host properties across the United States, including your very own Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton–Dodge City, KS have offered their guests the opportunity to opt out of Housekeeping service in lieu of a $3.00 donation per room per night being provided to St. Jude from the hotel. This is in effort to reduce the carbon footprint that many hotels create due to the laundry and electricity exerted during servicing a room, while also giving back to an organization that we truly believe in. This program will only be successful with YOUR help. We encourage you to share the mission with your associates and urge them to choose to hang the St. Jude-themed door hanger on their doors to indicate that they are opting out of housekeeping and would like the donation to be placed. It does not matter how you book, when you book or who you book through, if you have a room at our hotel, then you have the opportunity to give back. We truly appreciate your efforts in promoting this partnership that provides our guests with the ability to further support the St. Jude mission: Finding cures, Saving children.® Don’t plan on staying with us anytime soon? That’s ok, you can still donate by visiting www.walkrun.stjude.org/DCtrailblazinforkids. With Hospitality, Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton-Dodge City, KS
