Discover Salvation What Does It MeanTo BeA Jesus Follower ?
M
ost people live their entire lives without ever knowing ―Why?‖ They exist year after year with no idea of why they live or God’s purpose for their lives. The most basic question a person can ask is,
―What is the meaning of my life?‖
Everyone wants to be happy. People try many ways… …Some look for happiness by acquiring possessions. …Some look for happiness by experiencing pleasure. …Some look for happiness by gaining prestige and power.
But real happiness comes from understanding my … _______________ ___ __ ___ __________________.
Question 1. Why am I here? 1. God made me to

me!
―I have loved you with an everlasting love. . .‖
Jeremiah 31:3
―For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will.‖ Ephesians 1:4-5 2. We were created to _____ a personal relationship with God and to _____________ all of the rest of God’s creation! This makes us very special! So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. God blessed them and said to them, ―Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Genesis 1:27-28 ―. . . God richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.‖

Question 2: What is the problem? 1. Man has a natural desire to be the _____ and to ignore God’s principles for living. What we often say: ―Look out for #1. Do your own thing.‖ ―If it feels good, do it — regardless of what God says about it.‖ ―It’s my life and I’ll do what I please!‖ 2. The Bible calls this attitude:
____ .
―We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way . . .‖ Isaiah 53:6 ―If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.‖

Romans 3:23
What is sin? The biblical word for ―sin‖ was originally an archery term meaning ―to miss the mark.‖ When an archer missed the target it was ―sin‖ This sin separates us from God
When our relationship to God is not right it causes PROBLEMS in every area of our lives — in marriage, career, relationships, finances, etc. 3. When people have _________ coping before turning to God.

―My mother was a Christian so . . .‖ ―It doesn’t matter what you believe, just be sincere.‖ ―I’ll give up all my bad habits.‖ ―I’ll work real hard and earn it.‖ ―I’ll be religious and go to church.‖
Question 3. What’s the solution? Jesus Christ said, ―I am the WAY, the TRUTH, and the LIFE, no one comes to the Father, EXCEPT THROUGH ME.‖ John 14:6 God Himself came to earth as a human being to bring us back to Himself. If any other way would have worked, Jesus Christ would not have had to come. The Way is a person — the person is Jesus Christ!

I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.‖ Revelation 3:20
You Can Take These Steps By Praying A Simple Prayer Of Commitment To God: ―Jesus, thank you for making me and loving me, even when I’ve ignored you and gone my own way. I realize I need you in my life and I’m truly sorry for my sins. I ask you to forgive me. Thank you for dying on the cross for me and for being resurrected to have victory over the death I deserved. Please help me to understand all of it more. As much as I know how, I want to follow you from now on, Please come into my life and make me a new person inside. I accept your gift of salvation. Please help me to grow now to follow You.‖ ―Whoever calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved.‖

What Chapter Is
Discover Baptism & Communion
Jesus never asked His disciples to remember His birth, but He did instruct them to remember His death and resurrection. He gave the church two visible symbols (which are sometimes called ordinances) as reminders of his death and resurrection. These two symbols are Baptism and Communion.
Baptism? Baptism is a public ceremony where a person is immersed under water, which symbolizes dying with Christ for our sins. Coming up out of the water identifies us with His resurrection to newness of life, just as the believer has a new life in a spiritual sense. ―. . . Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, He was buried, and He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.‖ 1st Corinthians 15:3-4 ―. . . having been buried with him in baptism and raised with him through your faith in the power of God, who raised him from the dead.‖ Colossians 2:12 By being Baptized, we make a public expression of our commitment to follow Jesus Christ as Lord over every area of our life, and that we are now a member of God’s family, the church, the spiritual body of Christ.
Who Should Be Baptized? Scripture indicates that the requirement for baptism is that a person believe that Jesus Christ is the son of God, died for our sins and rose again. Baptism is the outward symbol of a spiritual act that has taken place in an individual’s life. ―Those who received His message were baptized . . .‖
Acts 2:41
―Simon himself believed and was baptized.‖
Acts 8:13
Discover Salvation, Baptism, and Communion
8
What if I Was Sprinkled As A Child, or Have Been Baptized Before? Some denominations choose to christen infants. While we recognize the right of other churches to practice infant christening, we understand Scripture to teach that only professing believers qualify for baptism. If you were Baptized as an infant, then Scripture says that you need to be Baptized now, as a conscious choice and as an act of obedience as you follow Jesus.
Why Do We Believe In Immersion? Jesus was baptized that way, every baptism in the Bible was by immersion, the term ―Baptism‖ means to immerse, and it is the best picture of our death to sin and new life with Christ. ―As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water.‖
Matthew 3:16
Does Baptism Assure Me That I Will Go To Heaven? Baptism does not make you a believer, rather it shows that you already believe. Only faith in Jesus Christ can give you the assurance of eternal life in heaven. Baptism is an act of obedience to Christ’s commands. He then brought them out and asked, ―Sirs, what must I do to be saved?‖ They replied, ―Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved– you and your household.‖ Acts 16:30-31
Does Baptism Make Me a Member of This Church? No, you do not have to become a member of our church in order to be baptized, and you will not automatically become a member once you are baptized. Baptism is an act of obedience to God that follows after a person has made a decision to accept Christ. However, baptism is a requirement for church membership.
Do We Baptize Children or Infants? We do not baptize infants. We only baptize those who have made a decision to follow Jesus Christ, and believe that Christ’s death on the cross is a payment for our sins. In the Bible, people were baptized following their belief in Jesus. We have a dedication service for infants and children that emphasizes the parents’ and church’s role in raising a child to follow Christ. Discover Salvation, Baptism, and Communion
9
If the child had made a commitment and understands what it means to know Christ, and they understand what baptism is, then we gladly offer baptism to them. We do not have a set age for children.
Baptism @ Good News Community Church Baptisms happen about every month here at Good News. If you have any questions or would like to talk to someone about being baptized you can contact DeAnna Doe the Director of Hospitality at 303-469-4457 or email me at DeAnna@GoodNewsChurch.org or visit www.squidoo.com/GoodNewsChurchBaptism
Will I Have to Say Anything? We record your testimony in an interview and then edit and show your testimony to the church at or after your baptism. Your brief, personal story has the power to say to them that God’s grace is available to them too, no matter what has happened in their past. You allow your story to be used by God to reach other people for Christ.
What is Communion? - 1 Corinthians 11:23-30 It is a simple act, not an elaborate ceremony. It is an act and a covenant, a reminder of what Christ did on the cross for you and me. A statement of your faith. ―… The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, ―This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.‖ In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, ―This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this , whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.‖ For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes. 1st Corinthians 11: 23-26
Who Should Receive Communion? Only those who are true believers of Jesus Christ. ― Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord. 1st Corinthians 11:27
When and How Often Should We Observe Communion? Jesus never said when or how often believers should observe Communion. Generally, we like to celebrate Communion at the end of each sermon series and in LIVE Groups too. Discover Salvation, Baptism, and Communion

Discover Statements Why We Exist As A Church
Mission:
Good News Church exists to be and to make disciples who love God, love others, and serve the world. The Great Commandment: "The most important one," answered Jesus, "is this: 'Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.' The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these. Mark 12:29-31
Dream:
Our dream is to eternally impact 5% of Broomfield in 10 years with the Gospel of Christ. Eternal Impact 5x10 The Great Commission: ―Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.‖ Matthew 28:19-20

Discover Statements What We Believe About the Scriptures We believe the entire Bible is the inspired Word of God and that men were moved by the Spirit of God to write the very words of Scripture. Therefore, we believe the Bible is without error. About God We believe in one God who exists in three distinct persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe that Jesus Christ is the second member of the Trinity (the son of God) who became flesh to reveal God to humanity and to become the Savior of the lost world. About Humanity We believe that all people were created in the image of God to have fellowship with him but became alienated in that relationship through sinful disobedience. As a result, people are incapable of regaining a right relationship with God through their own efforts. About Salvation We believe that the blood of Jesus Christ, shed on the cross, provides the sole basis for the forgiveness of sin. Therefore, God freely offers salvation to those who place their faith in the death and resurrection of Christ as sufficient payment for their sin. About the Christian Life We believe all Christians should live for Christ and not for themselves. By obedience to the Word of God and daily yielding to the Spirit of God, every believer should mature and be conformed to the image of Christ. About the Church We believe that the church is the body of Christ, of which Jesus Christ is the head. The members of the church are those who have trusted by faith the finished work of Christ. The purpose of the church is to glorify God by loving and by making him known to the world.

Discover What It Means To Be A Member
The difference between attendees and members can be summed up in one word: ______ . At Good News Church, we recognize the need for a formal membership. We ask you to commit to membership for 4 reasons: 1. A BIBLICAL REASON: Christ is
___________
to the church.
―. . . Christ loved the church and he gave his life for it.‖
Ephesians 5:25
A BIBLICAL VIEW OF MEMBERSHIP
2. A CULTURAL REASON: It is an
___________ to our society.
Some people’s hesitancy is increased because the ―membership‖ is never used in the Bible. But just because the word does no appear does not mean that the concept is not present. For example, the reality of the Trinity, although never condensed to a word in the Bible is a foundational belief. We become a member of the body of Christ when the Holy Spirit baptizes us in the body (1 st Corinthians 12:13). This occurs at conversion. Often this is referred to as membership in the universal church (all believers, everywhere, at all times). But it is also the normal new Testament pattern for believers who are a part of the universal body to be part of a local body (just as the normal pattern is for a believer to be baptized). The Bible assumes membership in a local church. We normally use the term ―member‖ to refer to belonging to a club or an organization— ―I am a member of the Rotary‖—the Bible uses it to refer to a much deeper connectedness. The metaphor used to refer to the church is the human body and individuals are members of Christ’s body like hands, toes, and eyes are part of the human body. They make a diverse, yet essential contribution to the whole. A body part only has meaning and value as it s connected to a body. The church is not a simple social club and therefore we cannot be connected to the church as we are connected to the Rotary club. In the Biblical sense of membership, A MEMBER OF THE CHURCH is someone who is actively and intimately interrelated to the other parts of the body. Membership — CONNECTING AND CONTRIBUTING — is a function for the local church: every believer is biblically mandated to belong. We want to be a church where the members do just that, in the truest sense of what the Bible intends.
Our culture and society produces little commitment to anything. . . our jobs. . . our marriages. . . our country. This attitude has even produced a generation of ―church shoppers and hoppers.‖ Membership swims against the current of America’s ―consumer religion.‖ It is an unselfish decision. Commitment always builds character.

3. A PRACTICAL REASON: It
________
who can be counted on.
Every team must have a roster. Every school must have an enrollment. Every military has an enlistment. Even the country takes a census and requires voter registration. Membership identifies who’s on the team. 4. A PERSONAL REASON: It produces
_________
growth.
The New Testament places a major emphasis on the need for Christian to be accountable to each other for spiritual growth. You cannot be accountable when you’re not committed to any specific church.
What Is Expected of Me As A Member?
A
t Good News Church we never ask our members to do more than the Bible clearly teaches. We only expect our members to do what the Bible expects every Christian to do. These responsibilities are spelled out in the Membership Commitment.
Is this a contract? It’s important to understand that this is not a ―contract‖ but simply an expression of how we will conduct ourselves as members of one local body of Christ. By signing this, you only state that you agree that this is how we should conduct ourselves and act toward others and that you will strive to live a life that celebrates these things. This does not mean you are a member for life. For your greatest spiritual growth, we expect that you connect in all three areas of our strategy: Love God, love others, and serve the world. If you are disconnected from the strategy and mission, membership will be considered inactive and a Welcome Class will be offered again as an opportunity to reinstate your membership.
